To Iphone or not to Iphone

Well, I ended up going with the Iphone. It came down to tethering, of all things. I may end up doing a lot of tethering, and AT&T had a better set up in my case (probably would not be true for most people). Most people acknowledged that the Iphone was more user friendly, which was also a factor. I can deal with the techier stuff, but would just as soon not. So far I am pretty happy with it, though I am still getting used to the touch keyboard.

But if you absolutely HAVE to get the iPhone 4, then for the love of God wait till that phone goes to another carrier. AT&T is just plain horrible.

This is just plain dumb. i've had AT&T for 10 years and never have had any problems. I don't know ANYONE with att problems. Their coverage map is AMAZING! Their 3g speeds is faster than verizon's and sprints. As a matter of fact our whole nationwide sales team of 300 + uses iphones on att and there is NO ISSUES with att. I think people get caught up with these stupid companies trying to take false jabs at each other in hopes uninformed people buy it and roll with it. This is alot like dana white of ufc saying boxing is dead in hopes his fan boys believe it, yet everytime ufc goes head to head with a boxing match they lose in ppv buys.

I lean a little to actually getting an Android phone with Verizon given its superior connectivity vis a vis AT&T. I it vital that I be able to synch over a server with Outlook, but I gather I can do that with an Android app called Touchdown. I also need to synch with OUtlook on my home computer, but I gather there is an app for that too. I did not like the DroidX which to me felt cheesy and I also thought was too big, but I hear there is a new phone, Droid2, coming out soon that might better meet my needs. In any event, would like to hear views on Android v. IPhone, preferably without flaming. Thanks.
i've been an iphone user for 3 years and im excited that today i am leaving apple and their bs for the evo. I had the evo in my hand and my iphone 4 on the other and the evo made my iphone look and feel outdated! You're better off with an android.

Had a 3gs. I love the iphone. Hate at&t. Love my droid and verizon. Don't listen to the people here wishing jobs suffers a painful death from cancer and that somebody shoots up the apple campus. And don't listen to the android haters either. In fact, you shouldn't even be looking at which phone to buy.

You should first pick out which network works for you. Then pick out the phone. If you go the other way around you can end up in a world of hurt with an expensive brick that can't even make calls. this is why I'm back on verizon.

So you state there are no problems with AT&T coverage? Really? It's a myth for everyone?

I got deadzones when I was with ATT. so I guess now you know atleast 1 person that has a problem with att.

Blackberry from the start 2001, then original Iphone, Iphone 3G, Iphone 3GS, Iphone 4, Andriod Samsung Vibrant, and now back to Iphone 4. I wint give anyone a hard time on what phone or carrier you use because it truly comes down to user choice. I have been with Verizon, T-mobile and Sprint and now have been with AT&T the past 4 years.

I can tell you in my experience that you always choose the carrier first then the phone or you will find yourself changing carriers everytime a new device comes out. Thats way to much of headache.

I went with AT&T because I think they are more business friendly, meaning they have so much more business devices to offer and comes out with great devices first. For example whenever a new Blackberry is coming out, it usually comes out on AT&T first before the other carriers. Verizon and sprint lag so behind in the device department. Verizon finally made a jump with the Motorola X but most times lags.

I went back to the simple Iphone because just that, its simple. It handles work email (exchange) better then the driod and the Blackberry. I love the way the Iphone syncs with mobile me which sycns with all my computers no matter if it was outlook, apple calendar or contacts. Yes, you pay for mobile me but again its seemless, simple and reliable.

Itunes to manage music is as simple as it gets. Do I want more control of my iphone? ofcourse I do, I'm so pissed that I can't control what tones I can use on my text messages or each email address. I'm pissed that I can'y control "profiles" like I could on my Blackberry such as turning off all calls and emails except for certain people I choose. When those people call or email then the phone will alert me.

So yes, their are many things that I would love the iphone to handle better but their are so many things the Iphone handles better than the Driod and the Blackberry.

I guess the answer to all my issues is to just root or jailbreak my Iphone, then I can get to have my cake and eat it to.

Then again maybe I will never be satisfied, with every update and every new device that comes out I want to try it to see if it can replace my Iphone 4.

Oh yea, I almost forgot, my reception as a phone does suck on my iphone 4.

I'm probably one of the few Android users not impressed with the iPhone 4's screen. I've had a chance to play with one on 3 occasions now for extended periods of time and there's no way that I can say with all honestly, it's better. I know on paper it surely has a higher res, but from actually looking at one side by side with my Droid X, I couldn't see the pixels (at normal viewing distances) on either screen. Up close, the differences were more evident, but it had to be unusually close for me to tell (and no I don't have horrible eye sight - I'm near sighted . So the resolution 'advantage' was a wash.

What was clear though, is viewing web pages on the X was a noticeably better experience especially in landscape mode. Movies and pictures were also more comfortable to view on the X's larger screen. And we know the X's color gamut is superior so the colors were more true-to-life on its screen even though they may seem to 'pop' more on the retina display. I could go on and on but I don't feel like writing a novel. All-in-all, the iPhone 4 seemed less and less impressive to me the more I played with it. The only thing that was better about it (compared to the X ) and not by much, was the video smoothness. 30fps is noticeably smoother than 24fps. The overall picture quality wasn't better as far as I'm concerned even though it probably had slightly better low light performance. I say that mainly because the colors on the iPhone tended to be oversaturated compared to the X. To many that may be a plus, but to me it's a big minus.

Be political. Choose Android if only to put apple that 1 tiny bit closer to going out of business and making the world a better place. While the device created by apple is great, the closed system apple enforces needs to be punished for the good of all man kind. Apple and its army of hipsters is dragging the world down by tieing up developers from using an open system; and the sooner apple is gone the sooner the world can move on, 1 day at a time. Viva la resistance.... viva las vagas.. viva Android!
