[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

I had an issue, was working really slowly and gmail app wasn't working. Kept freezing, had to do repeated battery pulls.

What I did initially is download through my PC but saved directly on SD card mounted.

Then I ran install.

It was not working.

I redownloaded upodate.zip on my PC. then moved it over to the SD card and performed the update again and everything is working great.

Hope this helps if anyone else has this issue

The WiFi could be any of a number of things - have you performed a baseband update? Is your connection going flaky and you just not knowing about it? Can you test other devices on th network? Have you tried disabling the WiFi for a few minutes? Have you used a WiFi analyzer to see how the signal strength it?

Thanks, by the way John. Yes to all but baseband. Everything else on the net is going great, no drops, plenty of signal, router . I even have the sleep mode set to never.

I did a *228 just now, but the baseband version stayed the same, so I am assuming it was current.

Wifi still works for a while and then drops connection, even though it appears to be connected. FB app throws the error "unable to find route to host." Makes me wonder whether it is connected, but Froyo is screwing up the connection somehow. Plus the fact that it doesn't roll over to 3g would suggest that it thinks it is connected.

Oh Wait... I didn't mean my Apps being backed up.

I ment the acctual ROM image itself.

I saw on here that someone basically bricked their phone because they botched their update to 2.2 and they didn't have a back up of their original ROM and had a dead phone basically.

If you ahve SPRecovery on your phone, then it has the ability to make a backup - from the main menu, go to backup / restore, then select nandroid backup.

I think that a lot of files are getting corrupted as the servers were being stupidly overworked before, but still looknig into it.

I know my phone is not rooted because the only step I went through was flashing sprecovery. Ive done everything stated on this site so its just kind of weird that its not working. I'm sure its me doing something retarted but the steps seem so easy to follow. Thanks a lot.

Don't you ahve to root to put the SPRecovery image on your phone?

*228 only does a PRL update - it does not update the baseband itself - that you ahve to do manually.

However if all else is working for now, I'd hold tight for a day and se if it stabilizes by tomorrow. If not, then maybe look into a new baseband.

I have no idea. All I can do is nandroid back up. Ive never had the ninja or anythign like that. Not that I even know what it means. Dont worry about it bro, my phone must just be jacked.

Umm no. I dont' have it on my phone at all.

Again I dont' want to root my phone. I just want to know if there is a way to make a backup of the ROM image of 2.1update1 that I have on my phone currently and how to restore it if the new 2.2 update doesn't work as it's being installed and I have to recover somehow.

I can understand having to root it to do it, but I'd like to find some good instructions on how to do it without having to weave through other instructions on how to install a custom rom

New member and just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I'm not extremely confident in my tech skills, but this was a very well explained and painless process! I'm loving the update so much that I'm kind of thinking of keeping this phone, instead of upgrading next month to the X. :)

Again, thanks a lot!! Look forward to hanging out here, everyone seems really helpful!

when you get into astro you have to make sure that you click and hold the new file. you CANT click into the file and then copy it, that will not work.

you got to click the and hold on the file then go to EDIT then copy it. then you can past it and it will work.

****if you clicked on the file and copyed what was inside the file and then pasted it, your going to have to delete everything you just pasted...BECARFUL:when you are doing this not to delete anything else. if you go to the details it should say the date and time added. double check to make sure. After you do that you can you have to redownload all the stuff and then you should be go to go.

I have the same issue as nd4life87.
I used to be rooted at 2.01 and had Nandroid backup. I've used RSD lite to roll back to the stock unrooted 2.0.1 ROM, but I still got the same error message as nd4life87.
I'd already verified the MD5 of the file I D/L'd (and renamed to update.zip) directly from Google.
I d/l'd VZW_A855_ESE81_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.03P_SW_UPDATE_02. sbf from post #352 above and applied that with RSD Lite - then applied the update .zip and achieved success - but of course I'm still re-installing and configuring apps... all text messages, call histories, etc. Gone.
Froyo goodness... I guess.

I don't understand. I downloaded and followed the instructions and it appears as though I am running 2.2. However I can't seem to download flash, when I try I just get an error saying that it is not found. Is this the correct version and if not can I revert the changes? I'm getting nervous because I've never done this before and I am afraid I might have screwed myself by downloading this update.
