htc going to help us fix our "unofficial" updated phones

Don't shoot the messenger, copying from another forum, here's the link:

PPCGeeks - View Single Post - HTC Statement on Unofficial 2.2

But this is supposedly an email that one poster got from HTC in regards to us unofficial folks. See below

Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Evo 4G. Individuals who have installed the leaked version of the device update are not eligible to receive the update. The leaked version is not an official release and there cannot communicate properly for the Over the Air (OTA) update. As such, you will need to return to an authorized Sprint Service center for your device to be returned to the original factory software. You will only be able to receive the update after this has been done.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 10_SC___ENA___891.

Sincerely,

Dayton

if this were true, it's more likely the "unofficial" was a trap, to snag root users, and break their root. any idea if sprint can or would enact consequences for .3 installers who are not rooted?

*EDIT* try reading the whole thread before asking questions, (like me) lol

I think there seem to be MORE problems with the official build

How so? I haven't seen more/less complaints about either one. The same problems that .6 had were the same issues that .3 had. If anything there's less complaints about the .6 since the .3 resolutions have already been posted, and most .6 users are using those posts as a guide to correct the same problems that were showing in .3

I for one do THANK the early adopters for their troubleshooting, but have yet to see any real data to show where one is more problematic than the other. Only "pro" of the .6 build is that it's legit, and we don't have to do another update to be "on track" as they say ;)

Hmm...if all I have to do is return it to a sprint store to get it back to factory...but what can they do that "we" the community can't figure out?

Actually when I was first got my phone a few weeks ago, I somehow reset the phone to a super early version of Android. Think I was attempting my first Root or flash. I was FREAKING...OUT!!! No idea what happened...

I would happily go to the Sprint store if they can restore my phone to 2.1. At this point I don't think I could get 4 hours out of my battery. I have uninstalled half of my programs and still have not found out what is killing the battery.

have you tried the factory reset yet? i think that was the last resort for some people which seems to have fixed most of their issues. If you haven't tried it, at least give it a whirl before you return to Sprint. Reset it and test for a day before loading all your apps back to narrow the problem down to the build vs apps.

If you're having problems with the battery turn off services that keep the radio connected to the data network. Such as account sync. I noticed by default our Android phones are set to connect to Google Talk for instant messages. My battery life increased nearly 40% after I turned those services off. Also if you have applications like Shop Savvy or Weather Bug they by default also connect the the internet and use the GPS even while you're not actively using the application. It's not the phone or the OS, it's your software giving you poor battery performance.

Update: I just came the local Sprint repair center they do DO NOT have the ability to revert the EVO back to 2.1.

<rant> It just kinda pisses me off. I scroll through my running apps to find all this bloatware bogging down my phone. I don't use any of this crap.

Running,

Amazon MP3
Facebook for HTC
Flickr
FM Radio
Footprints
Nascar
Peep
Sprint Foosball Live

Ok fine, install them...but at least give me the ability to disable these if I don't use them. <rant over>

I wouldn't think Sprint would have the files to do this. If they did, we probably would have had it before them.

I just received a reply from HTC.

Dear xxxxxxxxxx,

My name is xxxxxx and I would be more then happy to assist you today. I understand that you have installed the 3.26.651.3 software? This was an unofficial version of the software not ment for public use. If you have installed this software then you will need to take your phone into a Sprint Corporate Repairs store so that they may flash correct software onto the phone. Once you have the correct software then you will be able to get the 2.2 software that is rolling out now.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Sincerely,

xxxxxx

Not very helpful as the Sprint store already told me there is nothing they can do.

AMEN!!!!
Can we close/Lock this thread/topic forever then???

My god, its the same damn software!!!

Outside of the current inability to update your software to .6, which means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the real world, this is the real deal.
Can we all get on with our lives now????

So, did some one actually do a file comparison between the two updates and confirm this?

you guys are obsessing over really silly stuff...

there is nothing wrong with your .3 version, and, eventually, someone will come up with a way to get those of us on .3 to either .6 or to whatever the next version is..

I wouldn't waste another single brain cell worrying over it..

Thats the way i see it. I have no issues with .3 and am very happy overall with Froyo.

Im sure someone will think of a way to eventually get around this issue and once they do i still might not update to .6

I may just wait until 3.0 is released before i start to worry about some more minor releases being introduced.

Not obsessing, but having real problems with my phone. My battery is dying in a matter of a few hours. My uptime is 100% and I have uninstalled most of my apps.

As I use my phone for business, I need it readily available. At this point, I don't want the 2.2 Froyo release, I just want to go back to 2.1.

Did you do the Hard reset yet? And/ Or the battery tips/ tricks just like it were a brand new phone?

Ill admit that i had horrible battery life after installing .3, but as soon as i did the hard reset then the disable Auto log on for G-Talk and turning off Auto-Sync im getting better life now then with 2.1.

Yeah man, you gotta try a hard reset if you cant get it right..
most peoples phones were fine after the upgrade, and just needed a few reboots, battery pulls, or resets, in the most extreme cases to get the phone working properly.
I too am getting better battery time, around 16 hours of pretty hard use...
If that doesn't fix it, something is wrong with your phone, I would think

This is friggin BS. I'm sure its just an RUU that actually wipes and installs the new ROM, why HTC/Sprint can't/won't release it for us to install is pure crap. If we were able to install the leaked ROM, we should be able to do this too. Seems it's going to cause more work for the already bitter, and in most cases, unwilling to help Sprint employees.

Agreed...this is not what I had in mind when I read that HTC said they would help us. They are treating this as if we 'damaged' the phone. We didn't. They could also have done an OTA to fix this...the differences between .3 and .6 are so small, it would have been a very small patch. Either way, they should provide an RUU for those who want to do it themselves (or the magic tool they are talking about). I doubt any Sprint technician will be able to do this any more reliably than most of us can.

I just think its going to piss sprint employees off all the more, most (not all) are already pretty moody (and to some degree I guess I can understand why), all this is going to do is cause more problems, and back the techs up who could be busy breaking, i mean, fixing other peoples phones.
