ok, so this may have been done before and i apologise if that's the case but here's my story. i have the desire in the UK with orange. my phone came from CPW and is unbranded and NOT sim locked (tried 3 sim in it and it works fine). here's my problem - when i check for updates my phone reports it is up to date. i'm dying to get froyo and appstoSD so this is really frustrating me. does anyone know how i can get the official update by any other means??? any help is much appreciated

I'm beginning to think their is no benefit to getting an unbranded phone, supposedly quicker updates... p'AH

Although I havn't seen the crap that Orange has put on the phone with no warranty intact way of removing it all.

I don't want to have to wait any more but I have already had to return my desire twice. as my sd card module seems to keep failing stoping me accessing the card. So I am unwilling to risk my warranty at the moment.

I was also hoping that they would just install 2.2 whilst fixing it... No joy there either.

For anyone in my situation having to return your phone under warranty - do it direct through HTC rather than cpw, as they hold on to it for 2 out of the 3 weeks it was away from me.

Unbranded = doesn't have any custom firmware on the phone that the network bundled with the phone.

Unlocked = works with any network.

This is help and support forum, people only tend to post here when they have a problem. There's thousands and thousands of people who have updated that aren't having problems... you just don't see them because they're not posting.

Personally I would recommend the update. Had a couple of minor hiccups but the upgrade has been more than worth it for me.

Hi guys,
Just thought I would post this thread on any 2.2 news, I will start, does anyone think we will get 2.2 without HTC needing to do anything, sence UI, won't change ,it will be apps to SD, 720 HD recording, and DNLA,none of this will be anything to do with sence UI ,so as this update Will be over the air, happy days????
I'm new to the android phone market i wondering if unlock my telus htc desire and change providers e.g. fido will i still have to use the telus simcard to get the android update or can I download it over the air from htc

Very strange !!! My wife and me got each one a Desire (same provider) she got the new OS 2.2 to be downloaded under Settings-About phone- System software updates (which she did and its working perfectly fine). But on mine it just says "Your phone is up to date" but I still have version 2.1 (both phones are not locked) ... mystery ?????

new desire maybe owner here, a question. How are these updates added? Do they download automatically as soon as your phone is on, thus wasting your GPRS if you're not in a wifi area, or do you download it manually from your pc?

Menu, settings, about phone, system software updates and you''ll be informed if you have an update or not. It wont waste any of your gprs as you have to select download for it to happen. In fact it advises you to do it over wifi if i recall.
