Accessories Soundgate M2 car mount impression

Just ordered mine. Anyone have any suggestions on where exactly to place the disc on the back of the phone? I wasn't sure if the weight of the phone would leave it looking slanted in landscape mode.

To not have it slanted in landscape, your best bet is probably the middle of the phone. Mine is closer to the top because that's how it fit best in both of my vehicles. I bought a clear case for it so I can just pop it off when I'm not in the car. It does slant in landscape in the position I have it.

Just throwing it in here that I could not get the disk to stay attached to the back of the phone. It sticks until you put it in the mount and twist. The torsional force pulls the disk off the phone and leaves it stuck in the mount. It's no fun trying to get it out either. That's why I bought the clear case and just super glued the disk on. I didn't want to super glue the disk to my actual phone.

Anybody used this with the high gloss silicone case from VZW? Will i have to go the super glue route?

I use it on the verizon silicone case. Works great and hasn't fallen off yet.

I referred to the case as hard silicone in my original post, but that is because it does seem harder than standard silicone cases which are usually rubbery.

I think we are talking about the same case here. This one:

I have a red and black case and a M2 disk on both. Neither seem ready to fall off and I use one or the other daily.

I just got the Soundgate M2 and am still deciding where to put it in my car. My first choice for location would be right near the top of the dashboard, so I can see my phone easily. My concern is that I live in Maryland and it is EXTREMELY HOT here right now. When I touch my dashboard it is scorching hot. Should I be concerned about the M2 melting or coming unattached due to this heat? (91-95 humid). I do try to use a sunvisor but cannot always use one, so would need to know if this M2 sitting on my dashboard all day baking in the sun would be a problem or not? Anyone know who has owned one?

I love mine! I have it placed just above a vent in such a way that I can lower it within range of the AC so the hot dash doesn't fry it, or above the "lip" if I need to use a heater (winter). My only complaint/suggestion is to make sure you get the device attachment perfectly centered if you want to go horizontal or vertical. I have mine higher so that when i lay it down on the desk its tilted towards me, but its too off balanced attached to the soundgate and bumps cause it to rotate.

Installed my M2 in my work car today as well. I like it, but there's a fatal flaw- the disc didn't stay stuck to the Inc. I followed the directions to a T, but I could tell right away it wasn't going to stay. I may try to replicate the setup I saw somewhere else, with the M2 and a Tetrax Fix.

picked 2 of these up myself.. looks nice and matches the inside of my VW pretty well. i put the disc near the top based on the picture, but then i realized that was for a portrait style phone. might pop it off and put it in the middle. i have the notch facing to the right, instead of down so it can lock in landscape.

Well, a few things.

1. The disk doesn't stay stuck to the soft texture of the stock battery door well. After a while, I said "f" that. So, I just used Gorilla Glue to keep it on, and it's been solid ever since. Krazy Glue didn't work for me.

2. The thing needs to be centered very well to stay stable in Landscape mode. Still, it's not that great at staying level. No biggie, I use it in portrait most of the time anyway.

All in all, it's a great low-profile mount to have. Especially at $5 + shipping.

Yeah, the disk definitely needs to be superglued. Buy a cheap case if you don't want to superglue it to the phone!

I haven't had any trouble keeping the disc attached to my phone using the supplied adhesive. My first attempt fell off, but I took a couple of extra steps to ensure good adhesion on the second one:

Clean the surface of the phone very thoroughly
wait at least five minutes after cleaning to allow all of the solvent to evaporate before applying the disc
Blow any microscopic dust off of the phone just before applying the disc. Canned air is best for this. Your breath is not good for this.
Take the back off of the phone
Warm up the phone back and the disc with a hair dryer. It shouldn't be HOT, but it should feel very warm to the touch. By warming up the adhesive, you allow it to 'flow' into the microscopic pits on the phone surface, creating a much better bond.
Adhere the disc to the phone back, and squeeze down hard. With the phone back still off of the phone, apply a c-clamp or spring clamp to the disc, squeezing it onto the phone back. Don't wrench it down too tight.
Leave the clamp in place overnight.

Its hard to be patient with a cool new gadget like this, but it really is critical to give the adhesive plenty of time to set. You must avoid the temptation to slip the phone into the mount 'just one time to see how it works.'

My first one failed, mostly because I was too impatient and fiddled around with it just minutes after I applied the disc. My second attempt, using the tips listed above, is holding rock solid after a fair amount of use.

One final note, don't be too concerned about messing up the back of your phone. I'm pretty sure replacement phone backs are (or will be) available from Verizon- probably in all sorts of designer colors.

I also cleaned mine very well prior to installing. Another thing I did was clamped the disk with a set of plastic spring clamps for an hour or so before I used it.

I have 2 disks on 2 cases and haven't had a problem with either.

It does seem by reading these threads that they do not like to stick to certain cases. In most of those situations the glue option seems to work.

Anyone have problems with the mounting piece not sticking well to the dash? It's been brutally hot here in the Northeast and interior temps well above 100 + direct sunlight has made the bracket kind of 'squirmy' on the dash...

Mine was like that, but I left it alone. I put it in a spot where I don't really need to adjust it, so it's fine right now. No issues with mine even with it being really hot.

Looks good. It looks like you have to make a choice as to wether you want it in landscape or portrait mode before adhering the button. Seems some have figured ways to get it to switch, but it looks like it involves rotating it so that it's not fully locked in one of those views. However, I love that it gives you some degree of freedom as to where you want it mounted in your car
