Help Windows 7 64 bit compatibility

Does anybody know if and when Samsung will be releasing drivers for their PC software that are compatible with a 64 bit OS (Vista or Win7)? I currently own a Samsung Tocco which I have been unable to connect to my PC since I bought a new computer in December, and the phone has become a virtual white elephant other than for making calls and sending texts etc. I have looked at the Galaxy S which looks like a great phone. However I did a search on Google and discovered that Samsung's Kies software still has no support for any 64 bit OS, and this is now 12 months since Win7 was first released to developers. As far as I'm concerned this is Samsung's loss and HTC's gain, as I will go for the Desire unless Samsung can get their act together.

I havent tried it myself, since I'm on 32bit version of Win7. But there seems to be some workarounds.

My SGS (AND Kies) works fine on my 64bit Win7.

Yeah, Win7 Pro, 64 bit. I've had no problem either, just connected and away it went.

Interesting. The Samsung support site has been stating for MONTHS that their software is not compatible with any 64 bit OS, and the Samsung user forums have loads of threads with people gnashing their teeth about this. If you search on Google for "Samsung Kies 64 bit" you will see what I mean (one reference is as recent as 18 July). I have just checked the Samsung support site again, and I cannot see this reference to 64 bit OS, so I wonder whether this has finally been fixed? I would want to be absolutely certain about compatibility before I give the Galaxy S a serious look. Does anybody have any definitive info on this?

mine's working fine on win vista 64 bit

and there was a link to the drivers, where you had a choice of 32 or 64 bit

do a search under "samsung drivers" - that should pull up the link

Win7 Premium 64bit, not a problem. I downloaded and installed Samsung USB drivers . But then I did try some others also. Most of my issues came with installing the SDK. That was confusing but that too was conquered.

Also for me switching platforms (P2KCommander) to the Android was a steep learning curve.

there was a problem with win7 64bit driver.

the problem was resolved (at least for me) couple days ago with the kies 1.5.1.10074_2 update.

so either update kies or uninstall it and then install the new version.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting that Kies is working for some of you in 64 bit. I've just spoken to Samsung UK and they told me that they still do NOT support 64 bit systems. They agreed that it was not very good in view of the fact that their main competitors all support 64 bit. But they were unable to offer any glimmer of hope. Samsung is aware of the problem but seemingly unable to find a solution.

Hi guys ,

I have W7 ultimate 64 and it's working with Kies , but not alwasy.

The connetion process is very long and sometimes fails .

It's more like a lucky game "It will connect this time ?" .

I had installed the 64 bit drivers and the lastes Kies version .

Also , when I tried to Sync with outlook , the contacts went fine but the calendar gets stuck somewhwre around 36% . I didn't see any option on Kies to sync only calendar for a specific period , something like last 3 months and forward x months.

At first it installed on my laptop but doesn't connect. I sent my laptop to the local Samsung Customer service and they confirmed that Kies just doesn't work in 64 bit windows, Vista and Windows 7....

Samsung Galaxy S is a great phone, but if you are using 64 bit windows (which comes with most of the new laptops and PC), it just doesn't work.

Mine was a bit dodgy on Win7 32 bit but works fine now im on the 64 Bit on the same computer.

Even the latest version of Kies (February 2011 does not work with my desktop PC under Windows7 64bits with Office 2003 SP3. It blocks my Internet WiFi access

But when I try on my laptop under Windows7 32bits with Office 2007 I do not have any problem with Kies.
Is this due to Kies incompatibility with Office 2003 or with Windows7 64bits?

I have Kies running fine on 2 laptops one with XP 32 bit and on another with W7 Pro 64 bit.

Runs fine on both with no connection issues.

It seems to me that it probably makes a difference what USB hardware you have in the PC, and possibly things like PCI bridges. It's clear that it works on *some* win64 (not mine, btw) and possibly the difference lies in the 64-bit drivers for the USB hardware - which are, as I understand, different from the 32-bit drivers (i.e. Win64 won't run 32-bit drivers). So, maybe it would be helpful to say what chips are in the USB port... (having said that I'm away from my laptop and can't provide that info...). Currently if want to upgrade my phone, I'm in the position of having to buy some random PC to see if it will run Kies, or keep trying updates to see if Samsung fixes it (spent 90 mins last time, with no luck).

I just read on the (swedish)Samsung site that the system requirements included Win7 64bit. :thinking:

Pretty sure that it includes Win7 64 bit because when I install the USB driver I get no complaints from the OS with no prompt to click okay to install the non approved driver.

Works for me on Win7 64 bit Professional and on two laptops with Premium.

For 64 bit version - You may get the "This Device is not supported under 2.0" or something similar -You need to download a Samsung USB driver for it to work.

Click This link, install (Make sure Kies and your phone is not plugged in) and then start Kies up again and it will work.

it working awesomely on windows 7 32 bit but i always face problem with windows 7 64 bit..

so use windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and enjoy
