Help Possible Battery Fix from HTC

so i am being prompted to install the update. should I? a lot of this is going over my head. whats the consensus with the update and the battery life?

I would say wait. I upgraded to 2.2 froyo and i'm regretting it big time. battery life was just ok on 2.1 but it's now horrible on 2.2 for me anyway. I'm regretting trying to save money which is why i switched carriers from Verizon to Sprint and I sold my Motorola Droid which was totally customizable, and I could load any rom I wanted. Very easy to do, not with HTC phones though.

wow...down from 30% to 15% in 40 minutes after getting back from lunch. i think i finally found the culprit, or at least, i hope i have. i can't have a phone running out of juice this quick.

anyways, i was playing with the latitude app yesterday. it looks like you have to manually turn it off before exiting the app.

Ok so people are saying the FB update is causing problems is that with battery. I just updated but I mostly go to the web to FB but I did open it to try it after the update.

I keep ending things in system and they come back over and over so I went and force closed some things too under running apps. Which I don't know if your suppose to do that or not. But I did a battery pull and now my phone seems to be charging faster. It was really slow when I 1st got home now it's almost done. Maybe it won't drain as quick neither. I never had auto sync checked in 2.1 and now I have it checked but that shouldn't make me drain that much more should it? Maybe it is. But usually I leave only wifi on and wake up to 90 something or high 80's today it was on 68 or 70 from just sitting for 8 hours. Oh well like i've said before I have 4 batteries so I'll wait. I read on HTC twitter and may have already said this there working on a fix for us that got the unofficial update.

I was also having some battery life issues , maybe not as bad as some have reported here. One issue I was having was my icons not lining up properly when I moved them around. I also lost about 30% of my normal battery time.
When I would check my battery usage the Android system was showing up to be using between 25% to 90% of battery.
I did a power off and that helped some.
I then decided to do a power off and battery pull after which I immediately did a battery charge followed by the battery conditioning tip.Took it off charger last night after charging and went to sleep.
As of right now my phone is showing 78% battery remaining
12hours 41 minutes since unplugged
Android system using only 5%
Hope this helps somebody

actually you will still get phone calls and text messages. turn it off and the 3g symbol disappears, but you will still see your cell reception bars. i can't verify voicemail at this time. i believe this just kills the data.

i think its because sprint uses separate networks for data and voice.

I was told when I bought my black berry 8330 in 2008 that Sprint has their own voice towers but share/use data towers with Verizon, not sure if thats still the case or if it ever really was LOL, but thats what he told us.

I did a factory reset (not of the SD card, though) and pulled my battery and my phone is again sleeping. I'm not sure what fixed it -- I'm hoping it is pulling the battery, and I'll test that out on my wife's phone tonight.

If this all works, then maybe I can get my EVO back on track. Still, erasing all my settings sure did hurt, especially since I just got the phone the way I wanted it. Oh well.

I'll update in a few days when I find out the results of all these tests...

So the battery pull thing didn't work at all on my wife's EVO. I did a factory reset (a much easier prospect with her phone as she really just uses the web on her phone) and that fixed all the sleep problems and extended the phone's battery life dramatically.

I guess the other possible culprit was the Facebook app, but I upgraded it to 1.3.0 after my wipe and I still noted the phone was generally fixed.

I know Facebook said that their app was draining batteries pretty hard, but with 1.3.0 I didn't really notice a battery life difference versus 2.1 with FB 1.2. It now runs 1.3.1 and I see no real difference.

My conclusion is the upgrade didn't calibrate the battery and sleep function properly and a factory reset was needed to fix it.

While my conclusions are different than the consensus, this is how it worked for me and others may experience different results.

I took my phone off the charger and set it on my desk and went to make coffee. It was at 96 or 95% in like minute or two. I left it off for a couple minutes then plugged it back in and took my shower. My uptime says 35 minutes and my awake time says 18 so is that normal? yesterday it wasn't changing it was like staying at 3 minutes apart. There not suppose to be the same right? Cause your phone screen goes off in power save mode which is asleep right? I still kind of get confused. My phone dims after so long then it just goes off. I may have asked this already but I used to keep my brightness on auto is that the best way for the battery.

My battery lasted about 8 hours last night. I went to ao concert took a few pics texted alot and made a couple phone calls watched a you tube video. Turns out it said this Bic Lighter app that I opened to show my friend was taking up 93% of my battery. So I think I could of gotten more time on my battery. I know that drains it alot and I just forgot to close it. So I am betting my battery would of lasted longer. But I have extra batteries and it didn't die the low battery thing popped up when I got home. But just being able to go out for the night and I text alot and have it not die after a few hours is good for me. I justhate having to change batteries. I got my new car charger yesterday too. I was using an old cheap 3 dollar one from my LG Lotus that quit working. The new one worked as soon as I plugged it in yesterday. It was like 20 bucks with shipping and is Motorola it has a longer cord then the one I had and i think it lights up blue and tells you your battery status on there not sure haven't really looked at it. I just know it works!

Someone on another thread said they got 2.2 version .6 and they had .3 the un official version which is what I have, Anyone know if HTC has released a fix yet and if you have .3 can get .6 now? Guess I can check there website. Yesterday I turned my screen off for 10 minutes and my up and awake time stayed the same was 3 minutes apart every time I did that. But today I got out of the shower and there was like a 30 something minute difference which I think is better right? I think it's the FB app draining my battery but I'm not sure.

I am bummed after loading Froyo that I still have the issue with the "trickle charge" not working...I loose 12% of battery once I first unplug it in like 10min of use. Anyone else still have this issue? Anyone find or hear of a fix coming? I dont know someone personally who has an EVO and doesnt have this issue.

I have 2 battery chargers they do amuch better job of charging no more drop of about 7 % in minutes and when i take the battery that was chargeg in phone and says 100% I put it in charger and shows the battery as NOT being fully charged it needs about 30 mins to complete charge.
these chargers are available on cellphoneshop for around $8. Also ebay has them but I've bought from cellphoneshop many times and trust them

I did a factory reset and now my awake and up time are within 2 hrs of eachother FML dude I am soo ****ing tired of this shit with the updates... now I am at 65% battey at 1 pm after taking it off at 7 am and sending 5 txts

Yeah I'm sorry, I spoke too soon. My phone's still wiping battery like it's going out of style. I just assumed that since it resumed sleeping it'd be fixed -- but it's only sleeping 25% of the time now. I don't know what to do about it except hope a patch comes soon.

There is a FB update now to fix the phone being kept awake all the time. My battery was draining more than normal also. I read online that the new FB app was causing your phone to stay awake and not really sleep and was draining batteries. Last night I googled it to find more articles and one said there was an update already and I went to the marketplace and I had an update. So last night I had a full charge and unplugged and went to bed and I usually leave wifi on but I had left bluetooth on also and in 7 hours of sleep I woke up to 92% and am now at 89% in 20 minutes. I had 6 updates and I checked my mail. So now I am thinking maybe that FB update helped but I'll see today at work if I think it's better and not draining quicker. I still want the official 2.2 version .6 am on .3 but for now I think I'm better and it was the FB app. I still have the problem where I close stuff out or end it in System and it comes back but someone said that system needs to put out and update.

I don't know but the other night with wifi left on and my phone unplugged just from me sleeping it was on 70%. I would set the phone on my night stand turn off the power button to make the screen go black and it kept waking up and coming back on. But today after 7 hours of standby and wifi left on it said 92% so that is good for me.

But now I'm having a problem that just started. Phones plugged in laying on my desk and light goes out. I know it's probably not charging anymore. On my TP2 the battery icon changed when charging. But this is weird and If I lift up the phone the light comes back on set the phone down and it goes off. This isn't always but sometimes and it just started. And I am hoping it's a 2.2 unofficial version thing and not my charging port. But I just got a new car charger and it works good. But maybe it's the way the phone is getting set down cause sometimes the light will keep going off it did it 3 times just now and then I laid it down and it's staying lit up. It's just weird. And I kind of think it's slower charging too. Anyone who had the unofficial .3 gotten .6 yet? I know HTC is working on a fix. Someone mentioned getting it but I don't know where they got it.

I lose 5-6% when I unplug the phone...within 5 minutes

Both our EVO's do the same thing. Mine loses about 6-7% in about 10 minutes after unplugging. Then, I plug it into the USB on the computer to 'top it off'. Once it gets to 100% again (in about 20 minutes or so) the charge depletes at a normal rate.

Turns out that IF you charge your EVO while it's still on then once it reaches 100% it starts to work off its own battery. Therefore, when you unplug it the battery display is reading a 'false' green and will reduce to the percentage left of the actual amount of unused life. In my case that's about 93-94% typically based upon when I hit the rack and when I get up and at what point during the night my phone hits 100% on the wall charger.

Yesterday I got about 18 hours of uptime and usage from the phone and was at about 58% when I plugged it into the charger and went to bed. When I got up this morning it dropped right away to about 94%, charged for 18 minutes on USB and now that 100% won't drop below 90% for at least an hour including normal use.

If you want to test this theory, that the phone uses its own power during the night, simply charge it while the phone is off and when you turn it on in the morning after it has reached 100% it should trickle down at a normal rate instead of dropping quickly.

I was having issues w/my battery draining due to the phone always awake. I did a hard reset on the phone & followed the battery saving tips that are in this thread. My last app I installed was FB 1.3.1 & noticed my phone not sleeping causing my battery to drain fast. I uninstalled FB yesterday, charged my phone, and as of right now my battery is at 47%.

My phone is finally sleeping since I've uninstalled the FB app 1.3.1 and I'm not seeing my battery draining like it was.

Try doing a 'Profile Update'. That fixed a lot of the miscellaneous issues with my 2.2 update including battery life.

Everyone should take note that the FB app may appear to be 'closed' or you may not have ever opened it. But, it may still be running in the background since it was 'activated' to sync as part of the 2.2 update. To check this, go to Settings / Applications / Running and see if FB is, indeed, running on your phone. If so, hit the Force Close / Stop button then do not sign into the FB app again. Use your browser to do your FB stuff, works better anyway.
