I've never used it, but I got scared after reading an article about a malicious app hiding as an easy rooter. That said, there's also some danger in using this app because of the implications of it. When you root there are a lot of things coming in to play, and if you use a one touch rooter you don't have any background information. So when something goes awry, you will panic. Learn about what you're doing first, then go ahead and root however you feel fit.

I was never saying everyone should do it the hard way, but if you don't really know what you're getting into when you root you are just asking for trouble. My point is that it is easy to get in over your head and make a mistake when installing a ROM or something and then have a non-functioning phone until people on this forum manage to diagnose the problem and help fix it.

It's virtually impossible to brick the Droid, but its not hard at all to mess things up to the point where someone who used a one touch root app won't be able to fix their phone and don't even know enough about what they have done to explain what is wrong.

If you are going to root, no matter what method you are using, you should educate yourself first. A one touch root app removes the need to know even the slightest detail about what you are doing.
I am a Droid user who very much wants to root my phone. However, I am extremely nervous about the process and have no interest in rooting my phone - via EasyRoot or otherwise - until I have read and learned enough beforehand.

Had it not been pulled from the market I probably would have bought the app, but I would not have gone through with EasyRoot's one touch root until I'd satisfied my reluctance with enough knowledge of the rooting/ROM process.

So, now that I've read multiple posters echo my belief that you should not root without educating yourself, if anyone has any online manuals or sources on rooting and the process of flashing ROMs please reply to this post or PM me.

Thanks in advance guys.

I used EasyRoot and now on my second ROM (First Cyanogen 6RC2, then changed theme, now on Smoked Glass FRG22) and the only problem I had was that I forgot to back everytrhing up the first time. When I switched to second ROM, I backed up and now I have no problems. Now that I am rooted, I can switch a ROM just like anyone else.

I do agree with those that say it is too easy for someone who does not know what they are doing to f up their phone. People should do their homework before rooting. Simple as that. I think it was a good idea for the dev to charge a nominal fee, if for nothing more than preventing a random user the ability to download and run without proper knowledge.

Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Ok ok i will just come out and say it im lazy!! Ive been rooted for a long time now and i used what DMupdater or what ever the first version was before they split up, So a co-worker comes in and says hey i want my droid rooted like yours. I went straight to Unstable Apps - Mobile apps for a mobile world and paid the .99. Downloaded the apk and within mins his phone was rooted. I DL rom-manger and BB .4. And showed him a few other apps he could get. Wifi teather setcpu etc...

The whole point is i know what im doing and yes i could use rsdlite and sbf but why should i?? He is not going to do anything major with his phone without asking me first. I showed him how to make a backup and recover it if he needed to so let him brick the dam thing we all know its not bricked. So far have not seen any issues with recoveries..
just my opinion...

On a side not i dropped my Droid this morning and the screen is broke... So guess what im going to use to un-root my droid before i send it back??
