Root Fresh Evo 3.1.0.1 now available (based off official 2.2 OTA)

I installed this last night and have been playing with this all day today and I gotta say it's fast, fast, fast!! Battery life on it is awesome. Flash works well. Everything just works on it. I am so happy to get this working on my phone. After reading some reports with some people having problems, I almost didn't do it. I have no problems whatsoever. My phone is much better than ever. When I had the Hero, I used Fresh with it as well. Always been lucky with Fresh.

So I used Simple Root OTA Edition 1.47.651.1 to fully root my EVO 4G. I then went about flashing [ROM] CyanogenMod-6 - No Sense at ALL! - V6.0.0-RC1 (07/25/2010) using Clockwork Recovery. The flash was successful, however I wasn't feeling this ROM. So I whiped my phone again. Wiped all cache, valdaik (sp?) and reverted back to a NAND backup. I decided I would try Fresh Evo 3.1.0.1. However after I was done flashing, the phone rebooted, and it got stuck in a "Fressssh" loop.

I seem to hav lost my FM radio after this update. Anyone know where it went. It's no even on my phone.

From Download: Fresh Evo 3.1.0.1 (Newest OTA Base) Geek For Me – Sprint Evo 4g & CDMA Hero

Removed certain applications and moved them to /sdcard/fresh-removed-apks-3/. Some can be installed by just running them from es file explorer. If you get an error during the install then you’ll need to manually install that application by moving it to /system/app/.

You really need to check out the page where you get these ROMs from. Don't trust any of the threads on the forums and don't just load a ROM without doing a bit of research. Flipz has all the answers on his page if you look for them.

Make sure you are clearing the dalvik cache and doing a data wipe before trying to flash.

I actually did this like the 3rd time around. I read that if you do a wipe of the handheld using Clockwork Mod recover, that the SD:ext partition isn't being wiped during the process. Hence the bootloop. I'll try this a couple more times. I even did a full wipe using RA_recovery, but to no avail. Any other ideas?

The only other thing I can think of with a boot loop is you didn't do the second part of the Simple Root. I had the same problem you did as well which I've posted a few times on here.

Step #1: [Program] Updated: 8-5-10: 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition - xda-developers

Step 2: How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

I had used Unrevoked 3 and then wanted to flash a custom rom, I couldn't flash any of them, not sure why. So I did the step#2 above and everything worked perfect from then on, no more boot loops or any of that. I think if you try the above it should work.

If you have already done step 1 and had no errors you could just try step 2, if that doesn't work just start over at square 1.

I should also say before doing step two I moved my NAND backup to my computer's hard drive, then formatted my SD card in the phone before proceeding with Step #2. A few people told me Unrevoked may have left something behind on my SD card, not sure how true it is but it worked so whatever.

I used Clockwork Recovery (Rom Manager) to flash Fresh successfully. I didn't do it from within the app though I made sure to flash Clockwork Recovery then chose "Reboot into Recovery" and then wiped Dalvik, then wiped data and then I chose the Fresh zip to flash. Hope this isn't too much info.

Thanks Cru!! I'll try this out later this evening. I'll post my results then. Wish me luck!! :)

So, I decided to just go back and wipe data and Dalvik and for some reason it worked! haha However, as soon as I booted into FRESH ROM I noticed that I do not have the Froyo looking lock screen and I'm missing the MAPS app and I do not have LauncherPro installed. I'm probably missing other apps that I haven't noticed yet. Did I somehow "Half Flashed" this ROM? lol I rebooted but still the same. I did confirm under Software info that I'm running the latest Build number "Fresh EVO by Flipz". hmmmm ??
'
Edit: Yes, I'm aware of all the apps that were excluded from this ROM. :) For some reason some apps started to appear slowly. However, I still don't see the froyo type lockscreen. Sorry for my noobness right now. lol

You should have the normal lockscreen. It doesn't come with the "vanilla" one out of the box. You can enable the "Vanilla" lockscreen in the Fresh Updater but I would not recommend it. How to: Use Fresh Updater Geek For Me – Sprint Evo 4g & CDMA Hero Play around with the rom and get everything set up. If it's running smoothly I would do a NAND backup. One way to see how your rom is doing is to install "Linpack" from the market and run it and see how many mflops you get. I'm getting around 37-38 with Fresh. It's just a vague measurement of speed. For example with 2.1 stock I got around 6.9mflops. Big jump with Fresh.

If you are new to rooting I would stay away from themes, flashing alternate kernels, and modifying lock screens and such until you have read tons of info and are comfortable with the idea. Browse around on Geek For Me – Sprint Evo 4g & CDMA Hero and you will get a lot of answers to questions you didn't even know you had :)

after trying BakedSnack 1.0 and having a world of trouble with the camcorder and the device becoming very sluggish I decided to give Fresh a try. never looked back.

running like a champ on netarchy's 3.7.6c kernel. Tried 3.7.8b but got into the whole boot loop situation (granted I probably flashed the wrong 3.7.8b not the one optimized for this ROM but since the difference is negligible I stuck with 3.7.6c)

I don't know how other ROMs perform (other then BS 1.0) but this one is FAST and buttery SMOOTH!

I would really like to try CM6 RC1 but do not want to loose 4G so until that works I'll be on Freshhhhh!

No problem man, I like helping people out since I'm relatively new to the process myself. My baseband version is 2.15.00.07.28

To update baseband you need to flash the new radios I think. They are basically to possibly improve reception issues and just updated software for your radio.

New Radio: Download: Radio Baseband 2.15.00.07.28 for Sprint Evo 4g Geek For Me

anyone been noticing lag between opening keyboard and when it will actually accept input on this build? I don't know what's changed on my system in the last week but something is definitely screwing up my ability to type after I bring my phone up from sleep.

i.e. I get an SMS, unlock phone, go to respond to message, sit and keep tapping a letter a dozen times quickly before it will actually show one.
It doesn't throw a dozen As at once, it just suddenly starts accepting input.

are you over/underclocking? i am with setcpu, and noticed that if i set to underclock with the screen off to 245 it lags. but if i bump the min up to 384, it works great.
