Help Auto correct?

Sorry guys, I've tried searching everything I can think of; auto-correct, spell check etc. I can't seem to find anything related to this for the Galaxy S.

Does anyone know if it has to be turned on with this phone? I've had it a couple of days now, and there's no auto-correct or spell check whatsoever.

I can type anything, either close to or not even close to an actual word and there's no indication of any typo or no suggestion of what I meant to type. The pop-up works in Swype to suggest alternatives, but not in the standard Samsung keyboard.

Surely, there has to be an auto-correct funtion on this phone? I've gone into settings where I choose the keyboard etc, and the only thing even close to it is "auto-capitalisation".

Cheers for any help, and I'll apologise in advance as there is likely a very simple solution. :)

Yes and no... The only way I know of is to turn off Haptic Feedback and Audible Touch Tones under Sound and Display. But that turns off vibe/sound on the interface everywhere, not just on the keyboard.

Does that help at all? :p

Unfortunately, that's the only thing that I've found, too. It's just that typing anything more than a tweet becomes annoying :-/

To save posting a new thread I am having the same problem.

How can I turn on auto correct without the predictive words coming up. I just want my phone to correct the words I am typing...rather then try and choose what's words I want for me.

The instructions above turn on the spell checker, but my Samsung Galaxy S predicts the words! :(

Cheers guys :)

I would like this too. I got XT9 working on the virtual keyboard. But my main problem is that it doesn't work with the hardware keyboard.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere using Gingerbread 2.3.5. I have a problem with the Stratosphere keyboard. The keys are too small and close together, and while texting, I often hit an additional key to the one I want. I have it set up to autocorrect my typing, but it only fixes the most common of mistakes, i.e. it will change "youre" to "you're" but it won't do anything with "you7r".

So what I'm guessing is that there is a small list of commonly misspelled words and it will correct those, and that it would require installing an app that has a large english dictionary and will read each word I type and be able to delete the extra characters, turning "you7r" into "your", etc.

Is there such an app? Recommendations?

Note: I am NOT looking for a spell checker. I can spell quite well. If I have to open a spell check app and run it and paste text from that into an SMS, that would take too much time and I'm better off just using the arrow keys to correct manually.
