Just wanted to give an update. I did the Froyo update the night it came out and then followed the tips on HOW TO FIX FROYO a few days later. I ended up reinstalling only the Apps I use (um....my fault, I made the mistake of completely erasing all of my apps/pics, etc off my phone including the backup of my phone that was ON the phone - doh!) and I did not re-install an AppKiller.

Over the past week I have used the Evo lightly, moderately and heavily and am now very very confident that I can get 24 hours out of my phone if I need to and am careful (i.e. not playing around with the phone), and a solid 12 hours of use using the phone anyway I want. I spent 8 hours in the middle of nowhere one day and sure enough the phone showed about 80% of the time without signal. I still had 2/3 of my battery left (was able to get a few calls in/out, check some emails, send some texts).

I am much happier now than before Froyo. I ordered the 2 batteries w/ charger and carry a spare anyway but have yet to need or use it. I've had car chargers go bad on me and never want to be stuck without another form of backup.

I used to charge my phone overnight but now take my charger to work, use it if I need to, fully charge when I get home, then unplug when it's charged. I have no problem going to bed even if the phone is down to 20%, but it's usually fully or nearly fully charged.

I really liked the phone before, now I really love the phone and have nothing to complain about (except Pandora!).

Now that over 40% of the responses to the Poll say their battery is worse after the update, I really wish this thread was not a merge of pre and post 2.2 battery issues. The old threads should have been left for pre 2.1 issues or closed all together. This combined thread really takes the focus off the new issue.

I had ZERO battery issues before this udpate.

I'm not sure what froyo did as far as power kill, because i replaced my stock battery (which only lasted about 13 to 15 hours) with the sedio 3500Mah battery. Curious to know how long it would have lasted on 2.1, but on froyo, i'm rockin atleast a full 24 hours worth of beyond normal activity of battery life. Even more curious to know how long it would last if i actually rooted.

I did experience awake time = uptime and had no effect on the sedio. I tried all the tips and tricks to fix this issue, but nothing worked. Ended up doing a reset, and now the awake time vs uptime is back to normal.

Anyone with battery problems REALLY need to read this

How to fix Froyo

It seems to me a factory reset is a must. and it IS NOT HARD. Just back up your contacts, and just make a list of all your apps, reset and start with a clean slate. Then reinstall only the apps you really want back. Its that simply. I didn't use a fancy back up tool. I knew what apps I had downloaded and wanted to keep. And I did it.

Note: I come from the days of having Windows ME where disk formats were a weekly thing. So I kinda got a rush out of doing it to my EVO. But its understandable, these are cell phones, not giant desktops, yet we treat them as such. A little understanding and 30 minutes of following directions can do wonders.

Has anyone else noticed their battery draining faster with the 2.2 upgrade?

I originally rooted my phone under 2.1 mainly because I heard battery life actually increased without all the crapware running from Sprint.

Though today I did the OTA upgrade to 2.2 from Sprint and since doing so I swear my battery has taken a nose dive. - Also... to make matters worse, I have an extended 3650 mah battery. I have never had my battery go past 50% during a days use and that is with extreme heavy use. Now I am looking at my battery an it's down to 30% and with less than average use and my day isn't even over yet... WTF!!

Yeah i'm pretty conscious about what I have on and off. But you must keep everything off...data, gps, bluetooth, wireless

not me. I keep GPS on all the time. I have either WiFi or 3G connected all the time. Screen brightness set to about 85%. Screen time out at 2mins. 2 email accounts that update hourly. Gmail push. Weather update hourly. I run stock Froyo. I use the phone moderately. With all this I get an easy 12 hrs.. usually more. Im more than satisfied with the battery life.
