Android 2.2 [Froyo] Bugs and Questions - Post em Here

Like you I have found that swiping is flaky. Touching the dots in the lower corner of the screens seems to work 100%, though, and a long press on the launcher button brings up "icon" views of all five screens that you can tap to go directly to any home screen. I don't use swiping at all any more...

I'll probably just use the dots like you mentioned, but it would be nice if the swiping feature, which has always worked, continued to work. Oh well...life goes on.

There are 2 OTA Updates being pushed out to users.

Those that have ESE81 (aka 2.1 or 2.1 update 1) are being pushed out a smaller PTA update that patches your system to FRG01B.

Those that are not on ESE81 are being pushed out a lerger update that simply erases your \System diretory and puts the entire FroYo 2.2 OS on your phone - also FRG01B.

The end result is that regardless of which one you get, you end up with FRG01B.

Everyone who gets this: I highly recommend that after upgrading you perform a factory reset and then activate and log in and re-set up your apps.

If you do not perform a factory reset and set up all your apps again, then there are way too many variables that exist in terms of what could be causing problems, and it becomes extremely difficult to trace down.

Besides, telling people to do the factory reset is what everyone is suggesting anyway, so since this update (these updates I should say) are not being pushed out everywhere, update, then factory reset - in that order.

You are the man, johnlgalt! Thanks for the info and for your contributions on this forum.

Ok, bear with me, please.
Factory reset? Do I assume correctly then that everything needs to be re-installed (all my apps) and gmail?
And how would I do that?

I held down the launch icon, and see all 5 screens, but there is no trace of the stuff that was installed on one of the screens.

Oh, downloaded and installed flash, but my time-suck Farmville doesn't work. Should it?
I couldn't find the first flash, so downloaded from the other site~~media fire.

Thanks so much for your help.

Yes, that's correct. Since you already have Froyo it should auto-update all the apps you had, which is cool. It will make your phone run kind of chuggy until its finished, though (only a few minutes). You'll have to re-sign in/sync with gmail and facebook, and set up your homescreen widgets again. You'll also have to apply sound settings again, such as personal ringtones and alerts. Other than that you should be good to go.

I decided to do a reset this afternoon, although my phone was working pretty well. There were a bunch of other things I had to reset manually, including:

  • E-mail settings in K-9 mail (I suspect you'd have to do the same in any e-mail client)
  • Places in The Weather Channel app
  • Leagues in Google Scoreboard (once I selected the leagues it found my previously selected favorite teams and notification settings)
  • FlightStats Lite saved flights
  • DirecTV login
  • My file manager "andexplor" seems to be gone and not in the market anymore, so I had to download the astro file manager as a replacement.
  • The SiriusXM app was gone and I had to reinstall manually. (and it's still broken)
  • Reinstall Flash

Overall it was pretty painless, and although I was happy with 2.2, my phone is running even better now. I'm sure I'm going to find other little things to do over the next few days, too...

I thought that my DROID could use N too when I first got 2.2 on my phone. It has to do wit hte fact that in mixed mode / N only but on the 2.8 freq the DROID can see the ruoter and actually try to connect to it - however, the connection never lasts.

I finally got my older A/B/G router out and made it a dedicated AP for G connections, leaving my N router to do N only and at the 5.4 GHz freq range instead, and all is well with my WiFi.

Strange. Not sure I understand what you were saying. You were typing kinda fast there :).

Hopefully this will be fixed in the infamous, maybe gonna happen, bug fix update. Seems like kind of a big thing. Certainly is for me.

Still curious about the Flash player and Farmville/Farmtown.

I get the message when I go to FV it says to get flash 10.01, but when I get to the adobe site it says that it is not available for my device.

I do have flash on my Motorola droid.

thx

Oh, (duh, me), but how do I do the factory re-set?

Perhaps you should ask the mavens at farmville why their megahit app is not Android flash friendly since you have Flash but it does not work.

To do a factory reset, go under settings and do a factory reset.

I am so frustrated with 2.2 update since my motion sensor seems to barely work. Apps open sideways when my phone is straight up, when I turn it around nothing happens. It seems like the motion sensor does not read the movement now, I have to shake the damn thing at times to get the screen to rotate properly.

Is anyone else with 2.2 having this?

Well, Android_OS is back up to 30% for me in Battery USe stats... should be down around 2% or 3%. Uninstalled every non-standard app that I can... still fubar'd. It was good for a few days after a factory reset, then I setup like one homescreen with 8 shortcuts, news/weather widget (which was on before), and Twitter widget, and useage stats are through the roof... Plus that little spot next to the camera lens and above the battery bay is running hot again.

Looks like there's nothing I can do about it... something about Froyo doesn't agree with my phone.

Correction I can't use my music files at all. So I can only have regular rings. That's noo good. Why is this so difficult and why didn't they test this sh!t before it was sent out? I feel like my phone is ruined. This is the kind of thing that causes iphone sales to rise. This is actually worse after the factory wipe.

Remove all your mp3s and add them back. Someone else reportedly earlier in this thread that worked for them.

Haven't read all posts. Can not get talk to text to work on messager when i swipe keyboard, not please is there something i am missing?

Talk to text is not what happens with the keyboard swype feature. When you swipe UP (not to the sides.. UP) and leave your finger on the screen, it displays 2 rows that are otherwise hidden. The two rows are numbers, and frequently used symbols.

The talk to text feature still uses the little microphone to the left of the space bar.

Hey my driod is running smoking fast if i could just get the talk to text to work on messager. Anyone know how to get that to work? second request. When I swipe the keyboard nothing happens.

Talk to text works when you are using the on screen keyboard, and you tap the little mirophone to the left of the space bar.

The swipe on the keyboard works when you are using the on screen keyboard and you swipe UP on the top row of keys. At the end of the swipe hold your finger on the screen and the two rows of hidden keys shows up.

I want it to auto rotate since sometimes i need the app to go sideways, so this just forces it to stay straight upright. THis was NEVER a problem before 2.2 though, now it seems like a mess. Hopefully the new update can fix this issue.

For anyone having problems with the screen auto-rotating, you can turn it off.

Settings > Display > Uncheck Auto-rotate screen.

I hope so but that's what I had to do to get it to stop rolling around. I'd barely move it and it was to the left or the right.

Docking it or sliding out the keyboard will make it rotate still.

Sure am, but mine doesn't seem as bad as some others have noted. Android 2.3 anyone? :D
