Not to go all engineer on you but:

Assuming I am not sticking the phone in the freezer - how would rapid cooling occur under normal use?

And what rate would be considered rapid in degrees F per second?

(I have noticed under load it will shoot up pretty quick from 85 to 105 in a few seconds)

I was bringing this up because I read a post not too long ago where someone bragged about putting his phone on dry ice to cool it down after it got hot enough to bootloop. I cringed reading that.

I don't support freeloading. Even tho I knew where to get SetCPU for free, I bought the paid version to support the developer. If you really want a free version, Sapphire rom has it built into settings. No widget tho. Not tryin to come down on you, but this is how hungry college students eat.

what is hot for a droid cpu?

Running @ 1100, seems like temps stay below 115 or so.

Question - how hot is too hot? What temp range should i stay in for decent life?

mines stay on 42c (108 f) or a lil bit lower running 1.1ghz an i be on the phone alot on youtube on the go for bout 30min an it stay at 108f sometimes it will turn too 109f thats all but yea its normal all phones gets a lil warm but if it feel like its getting to hot pull out the battery quick lol or you blow your cpu it has its limits just don't go over 50 celsius (122 degrees farenhiet)

Depends on where you live. I've gone from 74F buildings out into -50F outside temps on a fairly regular basis. I usually kept my phone in an inside pocket, but sometimes I'm using it when I walked outside. Now the phone itself wouldn't cool to that temp super fast, but the phone I had at the time was all plastic. I'm sure the Droid with it's mostly metal body would cool much more rapidly in those conditions.

funny thing about this is that if you know where to get it for free, as do I and I paid also, you should also know the dev is condemning those other devs that freely took his app and included it in their ROM and is telling them to stop doing it as that is freeloading and providing HIS software to others through a channel the dev did not authorize.

agreed. if the dev is giving it away on his site, then why would that be 'free loading' if he demands money, then he shouldn't have it linked for free... if you were to post the APK w/ no reference to that dev or not directing the poster to his site, that would be wrong.. i would also think downloading sapphire to get this app --which the dev did not authorize, which be just as bad as 'free loading'

Say I own a restaurant. I'm gonna hook my people up. But I own a restaurant to make money, so I'm gonna charge the rest. Otherwise, bill collectors come and I got no money to give them. Just because I choose to make a gift of my services to a few doesn't mean I owe everyone the same gift. It amazes me how easily people validate narcissism these days. People are a trip.

ok, so you go to his website and sign up for a membership (which is free) and get the download for free..

--taking your example, i got into a bar, sit down -- of course the beer isn't going to be free, now i fill out a form, make up a username -- all of which doesn't cost me a dime -- and there we go, the beer is now free. doesn't sound like the bar is really trying to make a lot of money, maybe more looking for donations -- otherwise, wouldn't they be charging money to sign up for the membership?????

SetCPU for Root Users [2.0.2] This *actually* changes everything. 08/02/2010 - xda-developers

im pretty sure he states there "(donate by buying it on the market ):" hmmm..

while i agree that the app rocks and that you *should donate* if you wanted to try it out .. and/or don't think its worth the 1.99, then when the dev is giving it out for free.. why wouldn't you give them the link to HIS site and give HIM the credit...

Because developers will not remain interested in Android for long if they can't make money at it. They'll just stick with Apple, and perpetuate that trainwreck. The reason the Blackberry app selection tends to suck is because there's little money to be made over there. BB is the biggest selling smartphone available, and there ain't dick for apps. Money motivates.

or becuase coding for the blackberry is a real pita. read some dev's take on it..

anyway, im done arguing with you regarding set CPU, fact is.. if the dev didn't want it out there for free -- he wouldn't have it out there for free -- signing up for a membership to XDA is a breeze and doesn't really take much... if you like the dev, the work he does, the app, etc .. then you will donate and 'buy it'. but for the people that a) want to try it b) don't think its worth 1.99 (hah) c) whatever else might be the reasoning.. the dev has made it easily available for FREE on his site after signing up for a membership.

btw, an extremely quick google search for 'setcpu free' gives you the link so its not like it is that hard to find... i think he just wants people that are getting it for free to go to that site for 1) increase hit counts on his site which, makes his site more valuable, 2) probably some add revenue off people visiting.
