If this were the only option, I would recommend asking a neighbor to sign for you. That's alot of money and time sitting on a doorstep.
Like I said, it's a nice option for me since the neighborhood is new, (therefore also still small) and friendly. It helps that my front porch at that house is rather obscure also. If you aren't looking for something on the porch, I doubt you would notice a package unless it was rather large.
I mean, it's not like the delivery guy will leave it in the middle of your driveway with a sign saying, "FREE ****ING PHONE! GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT!" He'll most likely try to place it out of sight somewhere, as best as possible.
I've heard worse stories, actually. The ASUS G73JH gaming laptop has been shipped to some people without having received a signature, no proper shipment packaging, (it was in the manufacturer's ASUS boxing) and simply left on the porch without a note. Anyone could walk by, see the box, and snatch it. I think we're pretty lucky lol.

I ordered 3 phones last week on the 6th. Two of them were Casio Exilim's and they were sent next day air that day, Friday the 6th. They were delivered on Monday (not Saturday) and the ticket said that a signature was required at time of DELIVERY. Leaving a signed note was not an option according to the phone rep. But they did not use FedEx for delivery for me, it was UPS.
I ordered at a Verizon store in BJ's around 3pm and still no notification of shipment.

UPS must work differently. I read directly from FedEx's website that they allow you to leave a handwritten and signed note, permitting them to simply leave the package on the doorstep.
EDIT: I already edited this post and corrected myself stating that FedEx apparently does NOT do shipping on Sundays, period. The site, "maintenance," clearly caused a loss of my edit. They do shipping on Saturdays, but only for an extra fee.

Ordered on Sunday 8/8
Just Called customer service and have tracking number now in hand and ready for delivery on Tuesday 8/17.
The original date had been by 8/25, so over a full week ahead of schedule!
All you 8/8 people, give customer service a call if you dont have your email..you might be very happy you did!

Ordered mine yesterday, how does one go about finding out the tracking information. (Doubt mine is shipping anytime soon)

If you ordered online, they will send you an email. You can also check your order status on the verizon wireless page. If you ordered it in-store you have to call them @ 611. Ordering in store doesn't necessarily mean you get an email from them giving you the tracking number. I ordered in store and got a tracking number by email though.

I also ordered in store on the 6th and received a tracking number from Memphis. I am in Iowa. Delivery date is set at Wednesday.

I ordered on the 8th as well. I just called and she said it will ship on the 25th, just like the web site said when I ordered it. I hope that's wrong.

Wait, what? I think you might want to check again, unless the tracking number that they gave you is correct and functional. FedEx doesn't ship on Sundays, so Verizon can't actually ship it out I don't think.
I also ordered on the 8th so I will be checking in with VZW shortly, but I'm not expecting a shipment to be made today. I'm expecting it to be done tomorrow or the day after.
Well, if the number they gave you is correct and everything is somehow in order, then congrats! I can't wait for mine.

It would have shipped on Friday. Just because it says delivery Tuesday doesn't mean it had to ship on Sunday.

You receive a notification shortly after it ships, telling you that it shipped that day. If it shipped on Friday, he and I would receive notifications on that day saying that it shipped on that day. Verizon might be a bit annoying with the way they handle these backorders and telling us vague ship-by dates, but I don't think they would be quite that abstract with information. That would be confusing even for them I imagine.

You can generate a tracking number well before the shipping date. I ship by FEDEX and the tracking number is generated when I put it in FEDEX's system not when it ships. When I put in the system I tell FEDEX when I will ship it.

Most of us order via Verizon, Jim. We cannot do that. Verizon ships it out and chooses the methods, etc. We do not.

While Fedex will not ship on Sunday's, Verizon can enter shipping information into the Fedex system on a Sunday and generate a tracking number for a phone that will ship on Monday.
It also states indirect signature required when I look up the tracking information so you can leave a signed note and they will leave your package as Paycer has stated.

As someone that has a Fedex corp account I can generate a tracking number on Sunday and schedule it to be picked up on Monday. VZW is doing the same thing.
