ps: task killer arent helping at all

I'm in the same boat with all of you. Downloaded the updated.zip file and my Droid is not the same. Its slower, scrolling is jagged, certain apps doesn't function the same as before. Emailed Trident about downgrading to 2.1 update 1, he says its possible. He also said the OTA by Verizon is the same as the downloaded Frrg01B. (See quote below:). I emailed Trident for the instruction to downgrade, haven't. Heard from him yet. Anybody with a solution, please post it. Thank you kindly.

Thank you for your response Trident. I have a silly question for you only because I'm behind the technological curve. If I stay with Frg01B, (what I meant in my last post) and OTA (the "official" Frg01B) arrives from Verizon, will it override the current Frg01B I'm running? Or its just the same thing?

It's the very same thing. It won't even come to you via OTA since you already have it installed. You're good to go! :)

OK, If you are on a DROID and got an OTA for Froyo there are REASON's your battery life is bad.

Froyo does not have terrible battery life. if you are experiencing that there is something WRONG with your setup.

First Disable and remove your Task killer. Froyo, compiles code differently so task killers may no longer work with froyo. Just uninstall it. It shouldn't matter performance wise because task killers are just completely unnecessary on an android system, and can cause more performance problems rather than solve them.

Second if you are still having a problem do a factory reset. People have reported that that helps, but mostly I think it helps because it deletes problematic apps.

If you are having bad battery life, use the android built in battery monitor to see WHY.

That's interesting because I use system Panel which has a cpu and memory gauge. The memory gauge is usually at about 90% until I shut down unnecessary apps then it goes down to about 50% memory usage. It seems to me that it actually helps to shut down these apps.

I've also had issues occasionally where an app won't shut down correctly and runs in the background causing the battery to drain excessively. I realize there is an app manager built into the OS but the task manager apps just make it easier.

There is definitely an issue with Android 2.2 and apps that were designed for 2.1. The System Panel app I use doesn't correctly show the inactive apps now. Before the active and inactive apps were separated, now they're all in the same category

I'm having the same problems as you guys, plus additional issues. Ever since Froyo, my Droid randomly reboots.
PDANet has frequent disconnections. Also, when I unlock my phone it takes about 10-15 seconds for all of my icons to re-populate. This happens about 50% of the time.

I would LOVE to go back to my 2.1. No issues at all.

without really getting into it (there are a bunch of threads and articles about it if you google it!) Free memory isn't really useful, since well it's free i.e. not doing anything.

System isn't lying ;you have 50% of free memory, but that doesn't do anything it's just unused memory. Most of the apps on the list are already not doing anything. There are various App Life States, which use differing amounts of resources to maintain. The lowest Empty App doesn't use any (or negligible) cpu cycles or battery. so killing those can actually use more energy then just leaving them.

Also Android is hardwired to kill that extra memory, so as soon as you kill em android tries to load up more into the cache, which gets killed, and the process repeats, using resources.

that being said if you think you are getting better performance from ATK then go for it, every phone is different, and i do think that the internal (read: built in) Android task killer (yes there is one) is set too low for some people/phones. and theory always takes back seat to practice, but if you are having battery/performance issues might as well test the very popular TK "theory" and uninstall it!

I've also had issues occasionally where an app won't shut down correctly and runs in the background causing the battery to drain excessively.

definitely a fair use of a task killer

Well I just uninstalled my Task Killer because I suspected it was the culprit in my battery drainage on my froyo-ed up Evo. I did however, install a nice app called Watchdog. It's supposed to monitor my CPU usage and alert me of any misbehaving apps then gives me the option to Kill it. It will also give you a list of apps that are loaded in the memory and their CPU usage.

SO far it works. I will report back to let you know whether or not its an effectave app.
