This app seems complicated with mixed comments. What exactly does it do and do you have a samsung moment?

There is a menu option to disable background data.
Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync > Background Data
It doesn't disable data completely, but it does help with battery life.

It's not really complicated. It's a widget, so you long press on the home screen-add widget-SMODA widget. Then, you just press it once to disable data and press it again to re-enable data. You can still make calls and send/receive texts (don't think picture texts would work, though).
It doesn't work for some people, but I've had no problems on my Moment.
