so i have a mac but went against my grain and got a verizon moto droid...was this a mistake? I have i tunes and i want to sync my itunes info into my droid...if i cant do this im taking it back...pure and simple. any and all info appreciated i have a mac power book and i have already tried to use salling software and double twist to sync my droid and both have not worked. thanks to all that could help!

( if there gonna run a commercial saying the droid is so much more than an apple they should start off by making sure everything in their line is actually compatible and worth a mac persons time to switch over)

try a different USB cable.

I've tried two; one works one does not. When it works its as described above you will see the "USB notification" on the top bar; then you can either select and drag down; or it will time out but leave a usb symbol at the top. You can select and drag down the notifications and see the "USB" notification which will allow you to select "mount" which will then mount on the mac like an external drive.

I copied a couple of music and a video. These were not itunes purchased items; but rather media i had created and put into itunes.

I am a mac user as well. The bottom line is you won't get the same level of syncing support as you did with an iPhone and iTunes - that's what makes the iPhone such a marketable object.

With that said, I jumped ship due to AT&Ts service and Apple's lockdown of the OS forcing me to jailbreak to get the functionality I wanted.

I have about 12 gigs worth of music - here is how I copied it over.

I have tried DoubleTwist but frankly think that the interface is lipstick on a pig - it just doesn't work that well. All of my music is in my "Music" folder on my HD. If you follow the steps from the people above - notably, you need to Mount the SD Card by selecting mount from the pull down menu on the top of the phone. You should see the SD card mount on your Mac. From there, simply drag and drop your entire music directory onto the SD card - that's it! When the copying is done, eject the disk and you are done.

The first time you open your music player it will search your SD card and index all of your music - regardless of what directory it is in or what it is called. After a few minutes (depending on the size of your folder) you should have your music indexed and you are good to go.

It's up to you whether or not you want to stay with the Droid - there are trade offs with regards to music synchronization with Macs - but those trade offs are worth it in my opinion.

The first time you index, you won't be able to play any music until the phone builds the thumbnails for all of your cover art - it may give you an error such as "Can't recognize the file" or something like that - just wait and it will finish building the thumbnails and it will then play the music.

Hi. I'm new here. I'm considering buying a Droid soon and I'm also a Mac user.
Quick question about the music from iTunes. Does the purchased iTunes songs will play in the Droid after transferring them as described above or just the ones I ripped from a CD? Thanks

As long as they are DRM free songs, they should work fine. The Droid supports AAC audio files.

read the get started sheet that came with your phone, then attach the usb cable to your phone and computer. you must tap the top of phone screen and slide down the notification screen. once you mount the phone you simply send individual files to the phone. I just bought a Motorola droid and within minutes was moving all my itunes songs to the phone. only difference is I have a pc. i also found sending songs individually worked better than trying to send the entire itune folder. Good luck.

I also disagree. Its either going to sync or it wont. No middle ground. And it does sync very well. And if you cant figure it out there are programs like doubltwist and Motorola media link.

ok, i will admit, i am an itunes user for like 8 years now, i have a ton of drm music. itunes offered me to upgrade to non drm but to do that to my collection would cost me more than i paid for the droid. am i out of luck trying to get my music on my droid or do i have to go thru some real lengthy work around like burning all my music to cd? then ripping at mp3

Try thowing water on all your electronics, I think that will fix your problem. Or is it the other way around?

One of many reasons I hate apple and itunes.

OK so I did as stated above and my SD card shows that I have 4gig's of more stuff after I copied the my music folder over, I open my music player on the phone and I only see four of the 1000+ songs, is this because its not done building cover art?

I have open and closed the music player a few times and still only 4 songs.

Please help.....so close......LOL

thanks

Transferring music over to the droid is a breeze. Specially if you have your music categorized correctly.

In mac I use drag & drop till something better comes along. When in Windows I use Doubletwist and it works well. Wish they had the functionality in mac than they do in windows with this app.

I have used songbird and I find it to be lacking in the way it syncs music default with the folder sync addon. There is too much under the hood which I had to do to make it work as it should coming out of the box.

I came from a blackberry that had mediasync and it did everything well in windows and mac. I share the same itunes library between the two since I dual boot. This took some time but it always me to be in either OS. With Android I can sync from either OS also.

All in all it takes you to think outside of the box and not expect everything to be handed to you for now. I am sure soon there will be a much more automated way to do this it is just not there yet.

My initial guess would be that the rest of the songs have DRM on them so they ONLY work on iPods and iPhones. The files are there taking up space, but the media reader just can't read them. Welcome to the wonderful world of paying for shit.
