Root Unrevoked Forever

I have been putting off root and debating it because it seems like every day something would change and things were all unstable.

Since forever came out, I rooted and went with the s-off (forever), and then for good measure I installed the 2.15 radio - I was thinking about trying some roms - still might.

I did this to make sure I could get root with the new OTA (when it comes). So, now I have a rooted phone, waiting for Froyo (although I might try it on a rom if I have time to play around.)

Since you went to the new radio have you noticed any changes to the camera or camcorder?

Now I threw on the Sky Raider 2.5.2 (Froyo) - Couldn't wait any longer

I have 720p recording now. Also the camera detects faces it looks like (pretty cool).
Other than that, no changes that I notice.

ninja, a few questions, please:

1. Any app problems? My main concern is PSX4Droid
2. Battery life same?
3. Any apps missing from market?
4. Anything not work, that did before?

Thx

What is the diff between Unrevoked and Unrevoked Forever? Need to use both? I currently have a non rooted, 2.1 Inc with the 1.0 radio on it. My desire in life, besides lots of beer and shrimp is:

2.15 radio
adynalyne or Sky 2.2 rom
beer and shrimp

Unrevoked3 gives you root

Unrevoked forever gives you Nand unlock (S-Off) - it also allows you to update to the official Froyo OTA (when it finally comes out) and keep root. Once forever is done, you can update to the 2.15 radio.

Yes, you need to do Unrevoked3 in order to do Unrevoked forever.

Mmmmm Beer and Shrimp... I think that comes out after Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) LMAO :p

Unrevoked is the method you use to get root on your phone.

Unrevoked forever simply sets the s-off flag. What this means is, it turns off the security. Without this set, and you get an OTA update, you will loose root. And possibly lose it forever. With unrevoked foever you will always have root for the life of the phone.

OK, please confirm:

1. Install Titanium back-up (paid version) and back everything up. Everything?
2. Unrevoked3 to root.
3. Unrevoked Forevah! to trip the S-gate to off.
4. Update with 2.15 radio
5. Pick a 2.2 rom. Not sure if to use Frankenrom, Sky or Third Wave....

In a magical world, I would like all of my third party apps (paid included) to resintall with settings intact. Possible?

BTW, is my 6.6gb of internal media storage going to be cleared too? My guess is during the 2.2 rom process, I will have to clear everything (except my 32gb card of course), or does this happen during Unrevoked3 rooting process?

Titanium won't work until you've already rooted. You should do it after root but before doing anything else.

Rooting from where your at won't cause you to lose anything. So root first, download titanium but only use it to backup apps, their data and their market links. Don't use it to backup system settings when making drastic os jumps like 2.1 to 2.2 because system options are different.
Once you get your first 2.2 rom set up you can use titanium to back up system settings also. Probably wouldn't use it for drastic changes like vanilla to sense either. But learn about nandroid also it is your backup friend when experimenting!

1. Not that I have found. I don't use PSX4Droid.
2. Hard to tell. I switched to a new battery about the same time (the bidallies 1500) and have changed some of my settings (sync more often). Probably getting a little less but don't think it is because of the rom.
3. Haven't noticed any.
4. Nope. Just things working that didn't before.
