Openfeint coming.. & a large bunch of iPhone devs!

Hmm. I am looking forward to seeing what OpenFeint brings to the table, though.

I already use Scoreloop in one of my games, and although I am not dissatisfied, they can still improve. Two things that OpenFeint has on iPhone that interest me are the achievements (this is probably the main reason why I haven't put P&T on Scoreloop yet) and turn-based push notification (don't know whether it is useful enough for what I'd like to do, but its potentially interesting). If they bring that to Android, I will be happy - if nothing else because the competition will help improve the services available to us developers (which again will hopefully result in better games).

The fact that it is so widely supported on iphone will mean existing iphone openfeint enabled games will be easier to port across for devs

No it won't. As far as I can tell, openfeint is just an online scoring/acheivements app for you to compare with your friends. So it has nothing at all to do with how games are actually written, whether they support this particular scoring app or not.

So the games dont call the openfeint system? the games arent integrated in any way? there has to be protocols built into the games or how would they know the openfeint service exists? I just posted an article to point out it was coming to android. The fact its coming over means that the games that have it integrated will be easier to port as they wont have to remove it

Openfeint is, indeed, coded into the games, however, with this said, it is a very small part off the code. The fact still remains that the iOS uses the Objective C language, where-as Android is predominently Java (with the optional use of C/C++ with the NDK). The fact that a came does or doesn't use Openfeint, in reality, has little to do with the portability of a game.

Hi Strategy, this is Julien from Scoreloop, maybe you already got the newsletter about this, but I wanted to let you know that we just released a new version with achievements :), as well as cross promotions. Check it out, it's available in the developer area.

Cheers
