Help Please help me stop hating my Hero

I have had a Hero for about 5 months and have a number of issues. When I got it, it had 1.5. I updated to 2.1 right after it came out. Given the problems with that update, I have not updated revisions since. I am a HUGE phone user. I read tons of emails, but don't respond to that many from the phone. I also surf a good bit and use NAV once or twice a week. I just got a Bluetooth stereo in my car - Kenwood KDC-X994 and was really looking forward to the full bluetooth functionality including phone book, etc. FWIW - when operating with 1.5 I had no issues with lag. Since going to 2.1, it is horrible! My biggest specific issues are:

Lag - up to a minute or more when making calls. Seems like forever.

No proximity sensor - my ear hangs up on calls at least 10 times a day. I tried the proximity sensor app. It worked great with 1.5. Doesn't work at all with 2.1.

Bluetooth - It pairs with my stereo - too much. In fact it requires pairing after each call to make sure it still is. It shows there was a problem pairing but then it will work. Phone book does not load. Neither does call history list or any other stuff that should show up on the screen. I have determined that this is a phone issue (surprise) - not the stereo. Once it connects the phone quality is fine. It is even more difficult to pair for music (pandora) but once it does it is great, except that the display does not show anything on the radio.

I like a lot about the phone. I hate to get screwed by Sprint on a new phone but I really can't stand it anymore. I am ready to throw it in the lake! What do you suggest? New phone, hard reset, load new updates, root, etc???

Is this phone just a lost cause?

Thanks?

If you read the threads a little you will see you are not the only one with this issue, there are many threads out there with BT issues and phone lag and some have some good suggestions, but as for your BT it is a hit or miss situation depending on the model, hit the search button and type in Hero phone lag, and also type in Hero blue tooth issues you will see many threads.

I know all these things have been discussed and I have read for hours. The fact is I cant tell if there is any resolution or if the phones are just crap. As the last poster said, is rooting really the best or right way to go. I have not seen much, if anything, regarding rooting and improved bluetooth performance. Does it affect the bluetooth aspects? What is the best ROM to get - assuming I decide to root- to do what I want to do? Again, not looking to rehash old issues, just cant find concise answers... Thanks.

One other thing. Would it be an advisable option to try to do a hard reset and load all the updates (without other apps that I have added) jsut to get it 'clean' and see if this helps? I recall a few weeks ago that one of the updates (I think I have it) makes it harder to root. Is this still an issue.

Is there any possibility of going to Sprint (maybe retentions department) and begging them to let me get another phone (with a contract extension) and maybe avoiding having to pay the penalty? Basicly tell them that I will either terminate and go elsewhere because I have no other choice since the phone is such a POS that I just cant use it any more?????

well you could always put it in a blender and see what happens.. thats the best hard reset i can think of. but i would take it back and throw a fit. here is an idea. it worked for me it happened on accident though. everytime my phone was on charge static electricity from me would shock the well you know what out of me make it happen to you and shazam

No, you can root even with the OTA. If you don't have the OTA, you can expect phone lag. I had tons of phone lag before the OTA and none after it.

Yep same here. You said you did not do any other updates after 2.1 but if you go to HTC Software Updates under system updates and download that update it will eliminate 95% of the phone lag.....worked for me and many others. Also update your profile and prl

For best results be sure to do this on a saturday and loudly, salesmen don't like that and want to shut you up quick.

I did 2 things today.

1 - Contacted Sprint and politely begged for them to do me a deal on a different phone even though I know that I am not due for one yet. I offered longer contract and told them I realized it wasn't their fault that the Hero is such a POS. They politely told me to f-off until I am due or pay full price. THANKS.

2 - Tried my wife's Blackberry Curve on my new car stereo bluetooth and it worked perfectly - not at all like the Hero....

I can't say I am surprised by either thing.

SBBAMAFAN - Despite my reseravations regarding Nick Saban Being a traitor and a liar...... here is a work around. Use your Aux input on you fancy new Crimson Stereo - Plug into the headphone jack. calls play perfectly.

I KNOW - Not what you want....but it works and its Hands free.....

Sincerly Yours.....Miami Dolphin and College football fan

I've been a BAMAFAN long before Saban and will be one long after he is gone - but I can sure wait a while for that to happen! I really don't understand the resentment of the Dolphin fans. I know what he said and did but it wasn't like he was taking them to the Super Bowl. He is in his comfort zone and where he can have the most impact in the college ranks. Glad he realized it when he did and our job was open. Even my LSU friends are pretty much over it now and they point out that they have nothing against him - Saban took them to the promised land. They aren't destined for a return with Les Miles.

As for the phone - I guess that is what we are really here for - I used to use the 3.5 mm jack - hated the wire - that is what was really pushing me to Bluetooth.

R O L L T I D E!!!!!!!!!!!!

Underdstand the hatred for the wire....Im too cheap to buy a new stereo...and it works for me. As for saban - its not THAT he left. its How he left. "I promise I have NO interest in the Job at Alabama" Less than 24 hours letter holding a press conference wearing his tide gear.....

It did not bother me. I lived the same thing when Dennis Franchione (Coach Fraud) bolted from Bama for Texas A&M. I actually went and listened to him speak the day before he left. What BS. In retrospect, these guys are so srutinized by the press, not to mention the fans, there really isnt much they can say. They are kind of damned if they do and damned if they dont.

I had the same problem. I complained to Sprint AND HTC, and nothing. I'm probably going to do the root option...it can't be any worse than the crap I'm dealing with now! IN the meantime, I've started up a twitter feed to broadcast all the twitterverse's gripes about it. Maybe it'll make HTC stand up and realize their phones suck big time!!! (@ihatehtc on Twitter)

Probably won't have any impact....but it sure does make me feel a little better. Maybe, if just ONE person sees it, they won't make the same mistake I did.

By the way...does rooting the phone REALLY get rid of the phone app lag? Truly?

I rooted. Running CM6. Everything is GREAT. Lag is gone. Bluetooth works wonderfully with phone book, missed calls, everything showing up on radio. Because of the new OS/ROM, the buttons are different and the screen goes dead during calls so I am not accidently hanging up on people any more. AWESOME!!!! All of you that said to root were right! Wish I had done this months ago! Don't be afraid to do it to yours.
