thanks to everyone so far! I really wanted the Evo.. then read all the complaint threads on here which made me confused

Good to know that 95% or more of people love it.. i played with it in the store and think it is awesome..

People like to complain on web forums. When people have issues they turn to the forums for answers. The 95% of people without issues don't even register, let alone post...

More a comment on Sprint than EVO, there are rivals available to the EVO, like the Droid X and Samsung Galaxy, but none of them are on Sprint, and none have 4G. In my area, Sprint offers the most bang for the buck, as well as the best coverage footprint.

So I'd buy/recommend EVO because it is Sprint's flagship, not because it doesn't have rivals.

Yes.

All the various things I have done to maximize the battery life has all been a valuable learning experience and worth every minute. I would recommend that if someone has a big concern or is not willing to do little things like turn off Talk and 4G when they aren't using it, then they better get a spare battery (for under $30 I got 2 batteries with a charger). It's cool to be able to really dig into the phone and tweak it for max use the way I want to use the phone (I leave GPS on all the time for example). After the Froyo update I know what to do (and more importantly what NOT to do !) before and after a factory reset. I like that Evo is a disk drive and I am not married to iTunes or the Blackberry Desktop manager.

It's a rockin cool phone.

Evo would be my choice. If only because Samsung has a horrible record for software updates.

Don't get me wrong, the Epic is a powerhouse. It's definitely the only phone on the market I'd recommend for someone who wants a hardware keyboard.

Here's how my current phone recommendation sch-peel goes:

If you want the Cheapest plans and don't really care about always having signal, get the Samsung Vibrant on T-mobile.

If you want the second-lowest plan prices, most bang-for-buck, largest list of features, and cutting edge tech; get the Evo or the Epic on Sprint (depending if you want a hardware keyboard).

If you absolutely cannot miss ANY calls, you travel all over the US, 3G is fast enough for you, and don't care much about plan pricing; get a Droid X on Verizon.

Stay away from AT&T.

It is interesting that Samsung has already created fragmentation within their Galaxy S line with the release of the Epic. Not only does it have the FFC and keyboard to deal with, the Epic is running Touchwiz 2.5 instead of 3.0 like the Vibrant and Captivate (it is unknown what the Fascinate on Verizon will be running). So that September froyo update could be in jeopardy for the Epic 4G.

Android is changing how we approach the fusion of our data and our preferences in a mobile form factor.

Right now for me the EVO's 4.3" screen is key to that. Whether using it as a trackpad/keyboard to control my HTPC-based home theater, to reading classic Free eBooks by Project Gutenberg, or web surfing, news hogging, emailing, or kicking music videos - the EVO's big screen and uncluttered form factor make all the difference.

My next Android is likely this - Notion Ink Adam: Behind the Scenes - SlashGear

I'm very happy with my Evo, the thing absolutely rocks. Was at starbucks the other day and the guys serving coffee were talkin like mac? android? whats best?

That's all I heard, so I chime in "android of course" and show them my Evo. So they're interested so I click on youtube and the Iphone vs Evo vid with the cartoons. They were amazed... it has a kickstand? wow that was fast! it plays so smoothly!

Yeah they were apple fanboys too, but the vid made em laugh... "I don't care..." hahahha

Tethered by usb to the net the whole wkend with my Evo, my best 4g down was 7.4 mbps and up was always 1.0 mbps.

this is a great phone. 2.2 upgrade has caused me no issues at all.

good luck.

I love mine, but I would not recommend it to someone that wasn't at least a little tech savvy.

Amazed? At a kickstand? The iPhone will open and play the same video just as smoothly. You were having an conversation with morons if that's truly the case.

I recommend it anytime anybody talks to me about smartphones. It does more than any other phone out there, with the exception of the quality/quantity of games on iOS. I'm not a big gamer really, so to me it's the best phone on the market.

Samsung has crappy software, otherwise it might be a competitor. I love Sense, so I don't see myself getting Android on a non-Htc product by choice.

Droid X is nice and all, but it still doesn't have Sense or a front facing camera, which is the way of the future IMO. Plus I like the shape of Evo better, not as skinny/tall.

Above all the rest of the 'normal' superphone attributes... I'm actually quite surprised nobody has said anything about one of my favorite parts about the EVO....
ahhh, KICKSTAND, people...lol:)

Seriously though and I even think it could be done with additional functionality allowing for additional viewing angles!
