Using Nexus One

I got myself and N1, so now all I have to do is take the sim card out of my Roger's Magic and insert it into the N1 and away I go? No need to call up roger's and tell them i got a new phone, etc?

Thanks

Nice job getting an N1!

Yeah, Rogers folk act funny when I call in to update my IMEI number on the account. Honestly, everything will work out-of-the-box. Just drop your SIM card in. If it doesn't automatically connect to the network, go to Wireless Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Operators.

Enjoy!

Brining this thread back from the dead. :D

I jumped on the 6GB for $30 that Rogers had/is having(?) last week. The first couple of days, I was getting 3G...now all I'm getting is EDGE and only Edge. I'm not sure if this is a Rogers issue or a Nexus issue. I live in the GTA (East side). I was wondering if someone with the Nexus One that lives/work around the GTA can answer me...if they are gettting only Edge? Is it my area or does Rogers have very bad 3G network in place?

Thanks,
-Roze-

I can't answer with any certainty but I've noticed just in the last week or so that 3G speeds are way down in places there were much better just weeks earlier. Seeing Edge is a whole different matter, I still show 3G but speeds are about 1/2 or less what they were. I'll try a known high speed tower later today where I typically get 5+Mbs speeds.

I have been complaining to rogers about cellular data speeds for about a year now. The data speeds I get in Ottawa are about 25% of the data speed I get when I am in Toronto or Montreal. I have also noticed that my data speeds have been steadily getting worse over the past two months here in Ottawa. When I call rogers to ask/complain I always get the same response
rogers rep : sir are you standing in an enclosed area with a structure over your head?

me : Do you mean a house? Yes I am in my house.

rogers rep : Well sir, buildings and other structures block cellular waves and you can't expect 100% signal when some of the signal is being blocked.

me : Well we both know that is true and we both know that is not what is causing the issue.

rogers rep : have you tried yoru cell phone while you are standing outside sir?

me : yes and the signal strength stays at 3 bars same as when I am in my house and my data speed is still slow. It takes my phone almost 30 seconds to load the google search page here in Ottawa but in Toronto it is instant. Searches are worse.

rogers rep : have you tried removing the battery from the phone, waiting for 30 seconds, putting the battery back in the phone and powering on the phone?

me : yes, there is no change. I was in Toronto yesterday and I did not have to reboot my phone to get better data speed when I got there, why would I have to reboot my phone when I come back home?

rogers rep : are there any clouds in the sky sir?

me : ??? what? yes there are clouds in the sky

rogers rep : well sir clouds can block celluar signals as well.

me : Do you mean to tell me the clouds in Ottawa are signal blocking clouds but the clouds in Toronto or Montreal are not? Next you will tell me that the trees on my property are blocking the signal, which I have told you is at 3 bars both inside and outside my house, as a matter of fact and rarely moves.

rogers rep : well sir tree leaves CAN cause signal loss as well.

etc etc etc etc
This goes on until I get so mad I hang up. I have already kicked rogers to the curb for my television and Internet service I can't wait until July 2012 so I can dump them for cellular service as well.

I just checked my usual spot and it is about 1/2 speed so it looks like something is up. Granted that 1/2 speed is still usable at 2.5M/1.6M but my home location is really slow. Good news for me is that a new antenna is going up right now directly across from my balcony so I expect better speeds soon unless the problem is further upstream...

Wow! Today I am screaming fast here in Ottawa </sarcasm>. However today I am getting the highest numbers I have ever seen while in Ottawa. I am getting 0.50MB/s down and 0.15 MB/sec up.

rogers is a frigging JOKE! My co-worker that is sitting beside me is on her HTC Legend that runs on Bell and she is getting 5 MB/sec down and 1.5 MB/sec up. I guess she has less clouds on her side of the room.
