Help Phone sleeps and does not wake up!!!

IMO it is an app that is doing this when it happens, I has not happened for a week, now and I disable an app and wait and see, it will be trial and error but I will find the culprit, as of now,I tried turning BT off, and that was not it, now I have turned Polling off on my Youmail app and has not done it since, so we will see, LOL

One possibility is that your phone might be running out of memory. When that happens, garbage collection can take a very long time and the phone becomes unresponsive.

I've had that happen only once (after installing Fennec) and while the phone was unresponsive, it only lasted for about a minute, not the 20-30 minutes people are reporting.

You could have some bad memory, which might cause the same effect. I would doubt, however, that you've had 3 phones with bad memory.

Just thought I'd mention it just in case...

Well I guess I spoke too soon minutes ago sleep mode again and nothing is waking up the phone, will have to take the battery out to reboot, back to the drawing board, I wish the phone would create an error log this after once it happens I an reboot and check the error log, would be great

Well I am still using Youmail as I love that program, but just not running the program on my phone for now, if I get a voice mail it sends me an email and I can listen to the message from my email, so for now I will leave it off until my phone sleeps again and does not respond, then I will try the next program, I will put a list of programs later in case anyone can see a program that is causing this issue, I have checked with others and they also do not seem to see anything that is causing this issue, but I am sure it is a program eating the rams up and locking the phone up.

Don -

Don't discount YouMail - I put it on the phone yesterday after reading a Post. Memory Hog....Didn't even set the thing up and it was just killing my phone....battery Drain and Laggy - Removed and rebooted and have been fine since.

Well I have about 20 apps installed, and I am using LP, with 3 screens, and only a couple of widgets running, Internal memory available space is 78 MB's still have 49% free and my SD card has 1.49 Gb's still have 81 % free, now if I called Sprint they would say do a FR and I would forget it, it is my 3rd phone and this issue has happened on all 3 phones, so I am convinced it is an app, thus the reason why I will post my apps later for you all to see, I sent them to Joe Hunni last night, but and he also did not see anything

List of installed apps

Launcher Pro, Handcent, To Do List by Chris Bailey, Uninstaller By Rythm SW, Delete Old Message , Quick System Pro, Juice Defender, Quick Settings, You Mail ( Uninstalled since ), Fancy Widget, Sense Analog Clock, App Installer, Home Switcher, Viz Battery, Google Voice, Barcode Scanner, Opera, Astro File, , Dolphin Browser, PDA Net , Free Caddie, How Far Am I, Smooth Calender, Score Mobile, Launch X, Speedtest.net, Spare Parts

Are you running Stock 2.1? How much internal memory do you have left? Seems like you have a good amount of apps and some widgets. Stock is pretty bloated I seem to remember being, maybe delete some stuff you don't use that often?

I wish I could do that, when it goes into sleep mode which is what I call it by the way, nothing wakes it up, I have to physically take the battery out, or wait the 10 to 20 minutes until it wakes by itself, but during that time I cannot receive any calls or do anything

I have actually had the opposite happen... sometimes mine will just stay there on the main screen or browser and never turn black and go to sleep. The only thing I have found for that is a power cycle though.

Well since I have not had a sleep mode yet, but does not mean anything, usually when I get one it does not happen until a week later again, so I will have to wait, but I am able to list to my voicemails from my email, but means I will still have to login into my youmail account when I want to delete the messages, which is no biggie, so I guess it is still too early to say, but I will keep you all posted, I may root, but I want wait until I find the culprit first

Don has it worked any better with YouMail removed?

You are definitely not the only one having this issue.
Just bought a Samsung Intercept. Not even a month old and it happened to me today. The phone would not respond no matter what I did. Plugged it in to the charger and it lit up but the keys and the touch screen would not respond.
Had to pull the battery to get it to start working properly.
Once the bat was pulled it would reboot and seems to be working properly now but since others are having this issue on other phones and they are reporting the OS to be android 2.1. I am wondering if it is not a OS flaw.
Hoping it does not get worse before the 2.2 update this summer.

Maybe, but looking over your list of apps. I have none on my phone. So......

Well as this is an old post, but I have since rooted, but I did find the culprit before I rooted, it was the Youmail app, once I uninstalled it I never had the issue again, I simply listen to my Vmails from my email rather than from the youmail app ;)

Actually I did make sure of that, and remember this is the 3rd phone now, I had all 3 phones here before sending 2 of them back, and yes I take the battery out, but not by design, because I have no choice, nothing turns the phone back on. If it has happened to me I am willing to bet that the more the peeps read this thread they will sooner post if it is happening to them also.

Here is a list of my apps, to see

Expensify, was installed after this issue
COL reminder also installed after
Free Caddie
Dolphin HD
Handcent
Sports Tap
Astro File
Color Note Pad
How far Am I
Fast Call
Google Voice
Google maps
You Mail

Is that all the apps you have ? I must have 150. Not being a smart ass, but it's your SMARTphone, it can handle way more. Use and abuse it and have fun.
