Help Froyo Bugs and Questions - Post em Here

I have recently downloaded the new Android 2.2 update for my HTC Desire. I keep trying to install it however when I do the phone restarts and then freezes with the HTC logo in the middle of the screen and a black line across the top. None of the hardware buttons appear to be responsive and the only way I can get out of it is to take the battery out and put it back in again. It then goes back to Android 2.1.

Can you please tell me what to do to fix this.

My phone has become very slow when moving through the menu's and especially when typing. I can be typing away and the text is 2 or 3 seconds behind on the display. The internet explorer keeps force closing too, it must have done this 5 or 6 times since yesterday afternoon. Anyone know what's going off?

Hi I manually added Froyo to my HTC Desire a few weeks ago, but just in the last few days have noticed extreme slowness/unresponsiveness.

The other day I showed my girlfriend an sms I was writing ... I'd finished typing "blind" a while back, but the app was still slowly going through selecting each letter as my message slowly appeared.

Didn't know there was a Microsoft Internet Explorer app, I use the standard "Internet" browser app that came with the HTC Desire. Not sure if it's HTC or Android. I've never had that Force Close, but several times in the last few days it's stopped completely and refused to load any websites. I think it was the whole phone though, not the app. Restarting the phone made it work again.

These issues have only started appearing recently, so Froyo is suspect.
It's not continually slow, just has its bad moments.

(and I want to say again they desperately need to put back the "hide keyboard" button on the non-QWERTY phone keypad) (I guess none of you use that)

.....

Forgot that recently I've also observed speed issues with rotating the phone to landscape. For a while the screen will continue to show the "portrait" interface but turned on the side - so the ends are chopped off and there is black to the side, and then eventually it realises what a fool it's being and shows the proper "landscape" interface. It took more than a few seconds.

I applied the RUU 2.2 update last night.

I now have a directory on the phone called mnt that contains 3 sub directories, 'asec', 'sdcard' and 'secure'.

the 'sdcard' one contains an exact duplicate of every file on my sdcard,
If I delete a file in one, it also effects the other. (its on the phone, not the sdcard and therefore cant be the actual files as they take up more space than is available on the phone, so they must be shortcuts of some kind?)

presumeably this is part of how froyo uses apps on the sdcard?

but, I am having issues because the phone now sees 2 versions of every music/sound file, both in the music app and mixzing and also when choosing custom ringtones or notifications. (in mixzing I have solved it by excluding that directory.)

Has anyone else got this problem? or found a way around it?

thanks

Hi, apologies if this has already been mentioned (I have searched). Has anyone noticed that although flash player 10.1 plays videos smoother it is a pain to control playback.

Back on 2.1 I could, after double tapping, pinch to zoom on videos and easily use the embedded controls on a flash movie to skip/fast forward and adjust the volume.

Now, after upgrading to froyo (UK Vodafone OTA) I cannot zoom on a video or use the embedded controls.

I found that if I went back to the web page with the flash video on and zoomed in a lot (a stupid amount) I could just about use the embedded controls but flash is really choppy in a web page and this solution seems a bit stupid.

Had 2.2 for a few weeks now, and not had a problem 'til the other day - thought i'd do a bit of video recording using 720 for the first time, and it crashed after a few seconds (went back to the start screen and just kept vibrating after 4 or 5 seconds), i eventually sorted that by taking both SIM and memory card out and turning on and then back off before re-inserting both cards and it seemed to work fine for a few days.

The yesterday once i was back in the country and tried using 3G for the first time in 5 days, it'd crash after a couple of minutes, going into the same home-screen vibrating routine, whilst also giving me 5 consequetive vibrates and not starting up.

From reading a bit on the net today, it seems it could be something to do with the data network, whilst others have said it could be the installation of a task killer or even the motherboard overheating - what are peoples thoughts please, and has anyone else had the same issue whist surfing the net or using such as the facebook app?

I've got an unbranded set on Orange BTW.

Cheers

When browsing the internet i find that the page takes longer to drag around the screen almost like its not as responsive and much slower, a bit like when you adjust the scroll speed on your mouse so that it moves faster without the mouse moving as much, If that makes sense. Anyone else feel this?

It only started after the update. Very Annoying!!!

I have a HTC Desire and I unbranded it from O2 and upgraded to FROYO 2.2 using a gold card two days ago. I have sorted most problems out and now running OK. Only thing that really bugs me is when screen is woken up and is locked I cannot use the 'Menu' button to unlock it, like I used to with V2.1, I can only swipe the Screen Locked bar down. Has anyone else had this problenm and solved it?

Can't help you with your question but thats one of the best things to be put into 2.2 IMO. Less chance of pocket dialling (and yes it did happen to me a couple of times)

If some of your apps are not working as before your software upgrade to FROYO here are a couple I things I've found worked for me:

Uninstall the App and reinstall it. Power off the phone and power back up.

Install Adobe Flash Player 10.1 if video's audio plays up try a different media player in Options.

Don't forget you can free up memory on your mobile by using SDMove, available from the Android Market, to move some but not all Apps to your SD card.

JuicePlotter is worth installing and add the Widget to a screen and It gives a live predicted battery life and charging time.

Condition the battery, as described on this forum - it works and gives me over 14 hours battery life, it was about 10 after an overnight charge before.

Enjoy - FROYO Rocks OK!
