New SD Card - what next?

OK, So I just bought a new SD Card, I'm running Froyo (Open Desire) and would like to have my apps installed on the card where possible.

Can anyone advise on what I need to do? How do I format the card and do I need to partition?

I had saved a previous thread but it seems to have been moved and I can't find it and there doesnt appear to be a definitive answer hence my post.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Your memory card should already be formatted but you can format it if you wish fat32 is the correct format if you are doing it on a computer or you can put it in the desire and use through format function in settings > SD card. To move your apps to the SD card (ones that allow it anyway) I use the apps 2 SD application http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd this lists all apps that can be moved and allows you to move them across

Isn't apps2sd+ better for moving stuff across than the Google version?.

Yes, the google version (apps2sd) only moves the app if the app developer has programmed it in such a way that it can be moved.

Apps2SD+ moves all apps (rather installs them directly to SD card, no move required) and more of the app too. It also moves the Dalvik Cache which Googles version does not.

To use Apps2SD+ though, you have a rooted ROM with it Apps2SD+ installed on and you also have to partition your SD card with a 512MB EXT3 partition.
