Dropped EVO From Hip Level

I have the Seidio Rugged case and dropped my phone from hip level onto asphalt. All it has is a thin scratch on the corner of the plastic shell. The rugged case provides good protection, but adds a ton of bulk. My wife has the Seidio Active case on her EVO and I think it's a much better compromise that still offers a ton of protection.

The rugged case is an Innocase II (hard plastic), covered by a silicon sleeve, covered by an exoskeleton. The active case is just the silicone sleeve with the exoskeleton. It's much thinner and just as protective; my three year old daughter dropped it several times onto concrete, tile floors, and once onto a glass plate which shattered, yet the EVO looks as good as new.

Aside from the bulk, my only other complainss about the Rugged case are that the silicone doesn't fit as tight as that of the Active case, and it leaves a greasy/powdery residue on the inner hard case (Innocase II). I do like the fact that I can remove the silicon and exoskeleton and just use the Innocase, which I'm comfortable with sticking in my pocket.

I think the best solution is the Active Case with the holster. It fits the phone very tight and offers great protection. Another great option, though not as protective as the Active case, would be the Innocase II with the horizontal leather case.

I dropped mine over the weekend onto the kitchen floor  (tile). Only damage was to my "back cover" case.

I've been going without a case lately. Just screen protector. Sure enough as soon as I stopped using case... got out of truck and phone clattered to concret. Slight ding on corner bezel. (landed face down). That has happened twice now...

THEN, I came downstairs and my 9 month old puppy had my phone in her mouth. It was covered in slobber but no damage... (other than a tooth indention in the screen protector)

So I had to put her down :(

That puppy got what she deserved!!!! There there EVO everything is ok now, the mean puppy won't hurt you again!:p :D

P.S. did you really put the puppy down?

My first post here, but I just wanted to add my two cents. I work in an aircraft hangar with concrete floors. I have the Sedio Innocase Active with a screen protector (forget which brand, but its the supposed unscratchable type). I just the other day was pulling my phone out and it flew out of my hand , which at the time was waist level. It hit the concrete floor and bounced several times and came to rest with the display side facing down. I picked it up and not a scratch on it. This seemd to be the start of a pattern because I have since dropped my EVO several times since, on a tile floor, driveway, etc., not a mark yet! To this day the 35 bucks I spent on my Innocase was worth every penney.

Great first post, and welcome to the forums. Yeah, I've been wondering if a semi-hard case would protect against impact with a very hard surface.

One of the gripes I have with my soft silicone bumper is that it is way too grippy and I have a hard time taking it out of my pocket. Is this an issue with your Seidio Inno Active?

I'm not a big fan of soft silicone cases.

The Seidio Active Case is the perfect solution in my opinion. It consists of a silicone sleeve, with a hard 'exoskeleton' that goes outside of this, so there's very little of the silicone sleeve exposed.

This exoskeleton feels identical to the texture on Innocase II; it's not hard plastic but a somewhat rubberized coating that feels great yet easily slides in and out of a pocket.

I was juggling way too many things as I was walking from my car into the house the other day and my Evo must of got jealous, because it decided to attempt suicide out of my hand...I have the Seidio Innocase and it jumped from about chest level where it proceeded to fall to the concrete in the garage and go "DONK" onto it's upper right hand corner (by the volume button area) then landed face down....

I held my breath as I picked my "Emo" up off the cold unforgiving concrete fearing the worst had come to my precious piece of technology.... and let out a huge sigh of relief as he was exactly as he was before he had jumped.

The only difference is a small unnoticeable scratch on the case.

So... if you allow your phone to go naked and your phone attempts suicide as mine did, you may not be as lucky.

I've dropped my EVO a half dozen or so times. I've dropped it on a couple times on parking lot pavement and also on carpeted floors, bathroom tile, gravel etc.

For protection, I have one of those Chinese made silicone protector things and a Zagg screen protector. Both cheap but apparently affective. I went with the rubber silicone over hard plastic because it absorbs shock better.

So far nothing has broken or scratched.

The Inno Active is definately doesn't slide in and out of my pocket as easily as my Innocase II did, but with the hard plastic shell on one side its not even close to as difficult as the soft silicone case I had when I first bought my EVO. Yes I have had 3 different cases for my EVO thus far. I bought the soft silicone case when I got my EVO while I was awaiting the arrival of my Innocase II. Once I had my Innocase II, I saw Seidio was developing the Innocase Active. So I ordered one and waited for it to ship. Yes my phone doesn't slide in and out of my pocket as easily as it did with my Innocase II. But, its not even close to how it was when I had the soft silicone gel case. When I was using that case I would pull my phone out of my pocket and it would be covered with lint and it would pull my pockets inside out. I have yet to have that problem with my Innocase Active. I am someone who carries their phone in their pants pocket, I hate hip or belt cases, and I don't wear a suit for a living. So my phone rides in my pants pocket all day every day. The Innocase Active has not been a major difficulty to me at all. Its fairly easy to put and pull out of my pocket and it has already saved my 300 dollar investment several times. I have no complaints and can recommend the the Innocase Active.

Funny thing today was mines almost fell as well, one of the supervisors at my job has an evo and wanted to know why my screen looked clean and clear and im like cause i have no screen protector and he does, so as he was handing my phone back to me, (while standing on a platform) it slipped from his hand, and just like the thread starter said, it fell in slow motion, and at that time i had to use my matrix reflexes to catch it about 2 times lol.

Thanks. I was reading some of the reviews on amazon and saw that some people were saying that the outer rubberized layer was wearing off within a few weeks of use. You experience any of that?

Innocase Active here as well!!!!

I was STANDING ON A BARSTOOL to take a picture of the whole crowd....so I am at LEAST 8 feet off of the ground and I dropped it!!!!....slow motion.....right onto ceramic tile....it hit and pieces were flying...except the pieces were the tabs on the case. The tabs on 3 corners broke as the phone bounces all over the place. The phone was unharmed. I still use the same case although it is missing the tabs but doesn't bother me or the phone. Coincidently, I have an extra case laying around because I screwed up my order on Amazon and I accidently bought 2....
