Root GAOSP Froyo Nightly Builds

In my opinion the latest nightly build is almost ready for beta release. The camera app does however crash when trying to make a movie, but taking a pic works just fine. (Flash and AF incl.). The performance is also acceptable. With JIT enabled, no OC or compcache, I get around ~1 Mflop in linpack. With OC and Setcpu that must be around 4-5. I'm quite happy with the phone right now :)

I've not tried GAOSP yet, i've been put off about reports of it being a bit slow and laggy. It's amazing to see how far they've come but I am concerned that once all the features are active it'll not be much fun to use on a daily basis. I've actually kept my phone on II5 as it's quite speedy; when I used Galaxo 1.6.3.3 it lagged at times and forced closed a lot. Usually it was fast, but then it'd slow down over time. If, as reported, GAOSP is even slower then I just don't know if I'll be able to cope with it. So what do people who are using it think? Is it fine for daily use? Do they think (in a couple of betas time say) that they'll make it faster? I'm not sure if the plan is "get things working then optimize" or if it's already working at the speed it will and they are just adding missing features.

Also using new nightly build 26082010. So far it's faster then the previous nightly build, also more responsive.
Now trying the option with OC@710 MHz with compcache. Apparently it better works with cyangenmod compcache then with GAOSP compcache. at least for me. More intensive testing needed.

@kresten How did you add 100MB swap? Through adb maybe?

Overall the new build seems better to me, but I do have a problem. On Galaxo, if I hold my phone in the window I can get enough signal to make/receive a call and I even have a 3G connection ( I downloaded the latest to my phone this way ). Now I don't have a signal at all. No phone, no 3G. With the previous nightly I could make/receive a call but 3G was an issue at the house. Now there's nothing. I would have to go for a drive to an area with better reception to see if it works or not. In my opinion something is getting changed in how the phone is sending/receiving and its affecting the phones power output.

For the record, I did check my APN settings. I did have to make one adjustment ( the port setting wasn't there ). Other than that, everything was perfect. There isn't a setting somewhere that could adjust the phone's power is there? Its almost like is a 1 watt phone instead of a 3 watt.

Well I got the 3G going and I barely have 1 bar. Signal strength is still much worse and I still cannot log into Google. Beyond that, i really like this build. Seems to work really well. Gallery was a but grumpy, but once I overclocked and enabled compcache it improved dramatically.

Can't wait to get off the Donut ( going straight to my hips !! ) some Froyo would be much healthier for me.

Compcache is set at the default value of 25600.

On a side note the camera works well. My daughter drew a really good picture ( fantastic for her age, really ). Couldn't find the real camera so the phone had to do. Turned out great on the first shot.

Now if someone could only figure out why Bell users can't log into Google ...wondering if the "L" has something to do with it ...

Is there a general consensus on which 'basic' firmware (or at least baseband, boot loader and whatever else is not obsoleted by gaosp) works best with GAOSP? JC6, JC2, IK4?

I installed over my JB2 baseband, and everything seems to be working fine until now. I intend to try and use swap but I've still got to repartition my SD card.

However, I can't figure out how to disable desktop caching in ADW launcher. In which menu do I find this?

so even though i've been quite happy with the Galaxo 1.6.3.4 and DarkSense (responsiveness and all the goodies), i bit the bullet and gave in ... i downloaded the latest GAOSP (08/26 i believe). everything downloaded and updated properly. phone turned on and i immediately loved the loading graphics and was getting hopeful. THEN the damn phone went into FORCE CLOSE HELL! i couldn't even barely unlock the screen before getting a non-stop f/c effing nightmare! i didn't want to go thru the adb process so.......

needless to say, i'm back to square one ... happy and content with being a donut eater! =)

until next time...

EDIT: screw donuts ... time for some Froyo!!! :)

That happened to me too. Removed battery and re-booted. Everything was fine after that. I went back to Galaxo after discovering that I still have the issue with logging into Google. Besides that issue, it was running really well. Much smoother than previous nightly.

On a side note. That Google thing is really bothering me. It wasn't even trying to log in. I wish I knew more about this stuff to try and find the problem.

did you wipe data first?
check and fixed filesystem and premissions?
installed the nightly booted and only then installed the gapps?

this is the order you need to do for a nice and working nightly

I am unable to add my google account and sign into the market. I had no trouble with this for the first few nightly builds but have been unable to sucessfully login for the last few builds. It attempts for a few minutes then says it cannot establish a reliable data connection. I have no trouble accessing the internet or anything else requiring a data connection, just google.

has anyone else come across something like this and maybe have a solution?

as it does not work with wifi either i'm thinking maybe it is the gapps zip i have installed? does anyone have a link to a verified working gapps zip with the new nightly?

i wiped first ... always have to wipe else ya get "the itch"
fixed ... yes and yes
the only part i didn't do was boot first THEN install gapps.
i'm learning that reading directions better works wonders. i'm still gonna hold off with it for a bit ... maybe i'll try again with the next nightly

EDIT: works now! me encanta!

Haze, a lot of I7500L users are having that problem. At this point I haven't found a fix, don't know about anyone else.

From nightbulid to nightbuild my Galaxy works better and better.
When I installed 0826 over 0820, the only change I didn't like was deleting cash for Mini Opera. On 0820, when OS closes Opera, and I open it again after some time, all tabs are displayed just like it was when I left Opera.
In 0826, when I send Opera to background, and OS close it, all tabs are gone :(
