In some people's eyes though, there is. I have a personal code of ethics I try to live by. I am high on integrity. Some should learn the true definition of that.

I could care less who runs what, what does what, etc.... but at least use common sense. Ask to use, credit when used, etc. Simple stuff.

If you donate to the people who deserve it then whats the difference...

You people make mountains out of ant hills.

YOU may have it in your mind that its wrong and thats ok but to bash other people for using the Rom because they like it is nether Ethical or of high integrity.

I think People should know. After that its up to them.

I don't see anywhere that I posted where I was "bash[ing] other people". Please point me to my post saying such.

I simply stated all that had to be done was giving credit to what was used, and asking to use some things. It was created, that is fine. It was reported the source was from CM. That was fine. It was then reported back it wasn't, that it was from source. That was mistake #1. All he had to say was yeah, I heavily modified CM source, or whatever. He didn't. He denied it until the very last moment. That is the issue. Again, I could care less what user A runs on his Droid, or what user B uses, or C, or D, etc. Again, if you read again, please show me where I bashed anyone.

when has anyone bashed anyone for running UD? all that was stated was what was going on? If anything PsychoKitty bashed US for not wanting to run the ROM.

You have used words like Thieves and Plagiarizers to discribe his ROM after you found out he used kanged work. Thats what you call bashing.... Lets not forget everything Android was build on was about Open source. When everything is open you cant steal or plagiarize. Thats the whole point. So we dont end up like the poor sheep using Iphones.

You didnt bash anyone but to use words like Morals and Ethics as to say people that do run it dont have any. Its was implied. I know the whole story and yea I feel like he should of said thanks but he didnt and want. So the best course of action is to tell people who made this ROM possible. That would be Pete and CM. Then to tell them to donate to those guys not BD. Simple as that and no one gets there feeling hurt or feels bad about running a good ROM.

Ya i was bashing him as a developer because HE steals others work, If you learned to read carefully rather than misinterpreting things that you read you would realize I never once said ANYTHING bad about ANYONE running the rom. It's not my place to tell others they are bad people for running his rom. All i said was that I personally will not be running his rom. Better get your facts straight.

No, that was aimed at the guy guilty of the charges. Not anyone using it. As I stated, I could care less what any user runs. You misinterpreted.

Well if thats the way you meant it then no harm no foul. People get too worked up over this ROM. I dont understand why everyone has to make mountains out of ant hills. Its all Open Source.

Bull... Say what you want and you prob dont even know the whole story only what you have read in this thread... You dont even understand the meaning of Open Source and its evident in your post. If you understood that then you would know you cant steal anyone's work. You have gone on a two week rant about this when all the info you have is that someone ported a theme. Even BD himself took it down but yet you bash him with blind ignorance because of one theme... You are the people that are stirring the hornets nest and making a big deal out of nothing. Pete is over it. Koush is over it. Time to move on from this.

I can see reason and logic is not going to register with you so Im going to stop trying.

I realize how unpopular I am around here, particularly because I call it like I see it with this sort of stuff. But I'm going to nutshell the whole thing anyway, and I'll try to do it without using bad language.

From what I understand, BlackDroid basically compiled most of his ROMs with great bits taken from other developers' ROMs, and created what you might call "super ROMs". That is, he created ROMs that didn't have only the one special "signature feature" that each developer spotlighted in their own ROMs. You could get almost all of the latest cool signature features in one ROM without having to settle for not having one developer's feature to get another's.
He was very successful at this. Because his ROMs became so popular, it was realized that he had not been accrediting developers for these features, though anyone keeping up with who was doing what already well knew who to thank for what. Anyone who didn't wasn't ever going to care anyway.
Eventually someone called BlackDroid on this practice, and there was a terrific battle of the cyber-morons, all with their own perspective, all with their own little "ethical pratice" clinic-bombing diatribe to add. Everybody had a voice that HAD to be heard, as if anybody should've ever cared in the first place. BlackDroid was BOMBARDED with accusation, and when it came to technicalities and definitions, he is ultimately reported to have "admitted" to this horrific wrong-doing.
It's all BS, and it's all sour grapes. If BD's ROMs weren't so popular, no one would have cared! But because all the Mama's basement dwelling computer nerd rock stars couldn't get their crap together and work together on a kick-ass ROM, there was a void. Each little rock star had his little groupies, and meanwhile BlackDroid was throwing out a Jam-stock ROM that included everybody's goodies.

Oh well, too bad for you guys. Crucifying BD on every forum has only made him a stronger name, despite the fact that anyone who runs his ROM and asks specific questions about it on this forum (and others) is given a cold shoulder.
"How do I get such n' such to work on BD's latest ROM?"
"I wouldn't know, my ethical standards are too high to let that kind of ROM touch my Droid."
ANYONE stating that members running a BD ROM are not ostracized here is downright lying.

It's over, people. The whole thing is OVER. Get over it (and yourselves) and stop injecting every thread that mentions BD or his ROMs with your Open Source ethics & morality tripe. No one cares! Just don't run the thing, that's all. You're only making yourselves look smug & pompous when you have to finish a post about a BD ROM, no matter how neutral, with, "But I'd never run it.". No one asked, and because you weren't asked if you'd run it, you just look like a smug, pompous jerk. Really.

I would like to add that UD is on Rom Manager as well. Rom Manager is made by Koush who is part of CM. So if he can get over it you all should too...

First, let me start off by stating I do not care for either BD nor Cyanogen ROMs. They have just never worked for me. I don't even find Koush to be all that great a guy. That being said; we should sort out the facts:

Yes, BD did in fact admit to kanging Cyanogen but not until he vehemently and shamelessly denied copying the codes over and over and over again. That "someone" who called him out was Cyanogen himself. See:
Android Soap Opera: Ultimate Droid | CyanogenMod

Peter Alfonso, creator of Bugless Beast also chimed in having some of his scripts kanged by BD even after helping UD get started. Pete stated he noticed the T-Mobile logo was still appearing so he gave BD a tip on how to block it knowing that it was the same problem in Cyan's ROMs. Of course BD fixed it and then deleted the whole thread in which Pete was helping him.

Then BD accused the owner of droidforums (or one of those sites) that he was stealing money from BD. BD then chose to steal all the members associated so he could start his own forum. I believe the owner's screen name here was "soccer" followed by some numbers and he clarified the whole situation. That's another black eye for UD.

About a month and a half ago, June 23, 2010 to be exact, there was this tweet from Cyanogen:
Twitter / cyanogen: I like how Blackdroid cred ...

UD will always be on ROM manager because it's free. How is BD going to stop them from using it?

I don't know BD personally and I'm sure he's a fine guy. But there's a respect factor even though it's marginal.

To tell others what they know and what they have read shows alot on your part. I have read on cyanogen's site about what happened and have read many other resources about the crap that BD does and how he does STEAL others IDEAS and not even say thanks. Your an idiot and i'm glad your logic doesn't register with me because then I would be in your shoes. I could really care less, (as stated tons of times) who runs his roms. I think it's not right on HIS part on what he did and the actions he takes to go about creating "his" roms. If others feel the rom works on their phone then cool, why would I care about what roms they run?

Conversation and argument done, glad we could both agree on that much.;)

Ok, everyone Stop. PLEASE. (as entertaining as this is)

First Pfilly thanks for the recap; an attempt to take a broader look at the topic is helpful. but links to cyanogen's opinion and version of the story do not present the most unbiased or neutral source to get a good idea how it all went "down"

Everyone else, can we practice this whole idea of not giving a F*** about what roms people are running and treat this ROM release thread like all of the other ones, by you know talking about the ROM. If you have a problem with BD, or want to talk about why he sucks, than create a post about it in the Root Forum.

I actually stated the fact and then used Cyanogen's posting to show that Cyanogen was the one that, in fact, called BD out.
