The little things...(2.2 Update addons/changes)

I've look around a little but can't find an answer to this question, so I appologize if it is posted elsewhere...

Has anyone turned on the 3G Hotspot? I took a quick look at it. When you click on it, you get a pop-up about needing a Verizon Wireless Hotspot feature. Now I have not signed up for any new Data services but it let me enable the HotSpot anyway.

Edit: Okay tried to connect my laptop and it brought me to the Verizon mobile sign up page :(

To get it to work:

Go to phone and dial ##778
Press call
Pick Edit Mode
Password is 000000(6 zeros)
Go to M.IP Default Profile
Look for NAI and DUN NAI
Change the DUN NAI to match NAI
Press menu and commit modifications.

^Props to whoever found that, I forgot who.
Now try using hotspot again

Still unsure if you can get caught, but the guy who found that says it works.

It was me, I've been sending it out by PM like crazy. Wasn't sure if it was okay to post it.

try SMS Quick Delete in the marketplace.

I use Delete Old Messages - I tried running SMS Quick Delete overnght and it didn't do anything. Delete Old Messages got rid of some 9000 messages overnight - plus it has a status bar that updates as it goes so you know it's actually doing something.

Delete old messages - Android app on AppBrain

Does the update make the brightness on the soft keys (home, menu, back, search) configurable or make it possible for these to be turned off in low light situations? My biggest complaint about the Incredible is that those lights are so damn bright. I often wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep so I try to read something on my Inc and I get blinded. Turning the brightness all the way down does not fix this problem.

All fine and dandy, to me the biggest issue (at least in 1.5, 1.6 and 2.1, different phones mind you) is the god awful _PHONE_ app performance. Not a week goes by that I have to either wait 10-15 seconds to switch between call A or call B or right out take the battery out 'cause it locks the phones (G1, Eris and Droid). To me that's unacceptable and I'm not necessarily a "power user," but I know it's a must for business/medical folks. I have not heard anything that leads me to believe that Google is going to put more emphasis on these sort of _basic_ functionality in upcoming versions. Gaming, customization, apps, etc. All good things. However, I would like Google/developers to think that when I buy a "smart" phone, I want a reliable, fast _phone_ with the niceties of a smart phone, not a mini computer with a phone app added as a formality.

Trying to delete old sms threaded messages on my Inc with 2.1 is like pulling teeth. The threads are usually fairly long, cause Handcent and the stock messaging system to freeze then crash. IT also slows down my phone A LOT :(

I can say that I never delete threads in Handcent because it crashes every time. I have had luck deleting threads from the stock messaging app by selecting "Delete Locked Messages" as well. This is the best way I have found to delete large threads without crashing apps.

Anyone notice how now with Froyo when connected to a computer (XP in this case) the phone mounts TWO drives now. The 1st is a drive labled "Verizon Mobile" which seems to contain the software for using phone as modem and then the 2nd drive which is the normal SD Card mount.

Anyone know a way to stop this from happening (I just want the SD Card mounted)

I've found this to be a problem as well. Please post if you get a solution to this issue.
