Help "My phone number" issue

I transferred my number to Vodafone from O2, while I used the O2 sim, it gave me my number but, once I put the Voda sim in, nothing. Says my number is unavailable.

I also had to exchange my X10 so, got a new X10 back and my number is still unavailable. I might try putting a diff sim in and then mine back in, see if that works. If not, just wait the month which others seem to have found works. While its irritating, i'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Fortunately I know my number though :p.

It's seven weeks to the day since I first posted this issue, and guess what... ?

... my number still hasn't updated. :(

I've tried putting a different SIM in, but as the phone is locked to 3 network, I'll need to try again with a 3 SIM. Now I just need to find someone else on the same network as me.

Hi all, I'm now having this exact same issue - just moved to Orange from o2 (requested this on Saturday, changes were due to take place today) I had been looking at "My phone number" in the "About phone" dialog to see if it had gone through yet, not realising that it was already transferred across. So my number has been transferred but it still reads the old number, did anyone ever get around this??

Three-and-a-half months later and it still hasn't changed. I guess it's not going to.

If I get chance i'll go into a 3 network shop and get them to put a different SIM in to see if that makes any difference. Otherwise, the only solution seems to be ordering a new SIM rather than using one that had an existing number ported to it.

Other than that, and despite all the people who moan on this forum, i'm 3 months in and i'm really happy with my phone. My GF has had a Desire for the same amount of time, and i'm still more impressed with my phone than hers

The putting the sim into your old dumb phone thing works beautifully if you haven't changed networks. When you are porting a number from a different network its a different problem entirely and I don't know if it would let you do the same but hey, if you have an old phone there give it a bash and let us know. Its always good to have these tips up our sleeves to pass on.

ok, went to my parents house and tried my dads fone. B4 i tried it i looked up my dads number and the option was there (nokia 2720) 'MY NUMBER'. I then put his sim into my phone and it came up at the top of the phone book.

Then i put my sim into his fone but the option was not there!!

I then went into my local O2 store and got a new 3G sim. It was usable almost immediately but still the sim was 'UNAVAILABLE'!! Then i phoned O2 back, they said it may take upto 24hrs for the sim to 'FULLY' register.

Getting a bit pissed off with this now! I know its something not really important and doesnt effect the fone apart from a few apps, it just annoys me.. plus im slightly OCD!!

WHAT THE FECK IS GOING ON??!!

The threads I have read on this the people have done it with either an old SE phone or Samsung. Maybe ask round your friends to see if they have one tucked away in a drawer that you could try. Someone else said that you could do it with an Iphone but I thought they had i different sim, but if you know differently it might be worth try that too.

mate as I mentioned to you earlier,the sim they gave you have a different number registered to it or they might just send you a blank sim which when the fone is switched on with the blank sim then the number ported on the network got registered to this sim but the phone will not see this hence you are getting number not available,by the way am with three uk as well and i got same issue use a pay as you go sim then your phone will see that number normally,while if it ported from another company then you will never get the number to be read by phone ,bug in fone i guess but it is not a big issue am sure u can live without it...enjoy the phone

To change my number for X10 u need another phone,e.g i use my old Sony Ericsson P1i to change the number,

1- Insert the sim in P1i,select contacts--in contacts menu click more a drop list appear, frm the drop list select...view folder...then select SIM..a blank screen appear...click more..click my number..a number will appear which u wish to change/remove,edit the number and then save. if u dont save any number then when u put the sim in x10 after clicking phone book u will find.....My Number:sim card unavailable.

cannot read sim x10i sony

This was the most annoying thing ever....

After I put my sim into an old samsung phone, where I had an option in settings to set "my number", which I did on that phone and saved.

then into my X10i and voila, my number showed and 'cannot read sim' went away.

Pretty stupid this option was not on an advanced android phone and took a cheap 20$ samsung E1070 to fix it.

But fixed and now does not show 'cannot read sim' but displays my phonenumber.

awesome and fixed.. after a simswap that did not fix issue. Thanks for thread, I realy looked a day all over the internet....

My phone has never been able to read the number on the sim. Sending and recieving messages/calls works but in contacts it saying the phone number can not be read.

Open Settings ->Is first option Sony Ericsson, if it is select it-> Do a Settings Download

Settings->Call Settings->Fixed Dialing numbers->Are there any fixed dialing numbers that are on your SIM?

Network Mode should be WCDMA prefered
Under Access Point Name there should just be one with a radio button beside it.
Under Network Operators, under Search Mode it should be on Select Automatically

Does it see your cell provider? And does it have a checkmark beside it?

Back in Settings->Location and Security
Use Wireless networks should be checked
Setup SIM Card lock...does it show it is locked? There should be no checkmark beside lock SIM

Next, open Settings->About Phone->Status

There is one more thing your cell provider could do....they can repush your settings to your phone. You would have to call them about that.
