Upgraded to the leaked Froyo? Motorola says no OTA updates for you

Wow, what a thread! For one second I'm actually glad I don't have my DX yet. Maybe, just maybe the official 2.2 will be released by the time I get the dang thing and then I can work on rooting that version. I wouldn't mind going from 2.1 to 2.2 and back though. It's precisely that kind of tinkering that I love and from which I learn so much.

By the way, I'm Richie Rich and I ordered one MILLION Droid Xs. Man I'm cool.

It's not going to be a OTA update for those of us already at 2.2 because how can you upgrade to the same version you have ..... I'm sure the versions will be the same so Moto can only count on recognizing 2.1 X's, therefore their statement is not false that those with 2.2 currently may not be able to get the OTA update without reverting back to 2.1

Does anyone else see some hope in the announcement from Motorola:

WARNING: Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the Internets. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version.

It says there "currently" is no upgrade path and you "could" be stuck with the leaked version.

It doesn't sound 100% to me like there will never be a patch or update available.

There looks to be another glimmer of hope! The Motorola annoucement says that the official 2.2 load will be released BY early September. To me that tends to confirm the liklihood that a OTA push is imminent...

no kidding. all these angry people baffle me. motorola is simply not going to divert the time/money/manpower figuring out how to get the OTA to the people on 2.2. instead, they're gonna get it out to all the people who dont know how to flash software on their phones so we ALL can have it sooner.

and, to the people actually upset at verizon for the time they are taking to release the 2.2 OTA. currently they have one phone that comes with 2.2, and 2 others that either have already been given, or are about to get the update, and another one coming within the next couple weeks.

what other carrier has that many phones out in the wild with 2.2? as a matter of fact, id be willing to bet the other 3 dont have as many total phones with 2.2 combined.

I've already updated to the unofficial 2.2 some days back and downgraded to the 2.1 then rooted and been there for a couple days. This thread makes me want to do it all over again just for the hell of it.

People have no concept of the software cycle. The leaked build is likely the official build or very close to it. It takes weeks after a build is submitted for validation to be ready for launch. If the OTA is up for deployment the first half of September, then the leaked zip is likely the official build.

Well as I know you all heard Motorola is saying that us with the leaked Froyo wont be able to update when the official one comes out. So here are instructions posted on another android site to get you back to 2.1.

Help - Want to revert back to 2.1 - Android Forums

I have a question though, cant we just install froyo when it is released like we did with this one?

Can someone explain the BIG deal about Froyo? Can anyone be specific about the REAL benefit they've "Experienced" with the leaked Froyo, over the stock! Thanks.

For me, everything runs much smoother and faster, flash is real nice. The biggest thing is how much longer the battery lasts, huge improvement. I also fall into the category of having a clean update ie: no battery fc, no market issues etc...

I also have had no problems in the week and a half that it has been out, flashed it the first day. The battery is great and better settings and ways to know what is using your battery. The e-mail is running a lot better and added features. The speaker sound is much improved. Having flash on the internet is just great (worth it by itself). Those are just the highlights. Not that 2.1 was bad, but 2.2 just seems to make a great phone even better.

Every time I see this thread's title ("Motorola says no OTA updates for you") I'm reminded of this:

YouTube - Andrew Ryan's Opening Speech in Bioshock

Isn't a man entitled to upgrade his phone as he wills? No said the man from Motorola, no updates for you!

O.M.G. My ex loves this game. I fell asleep after doing a ton of homework one time over at his place and was awoken to the shrieking and screams of the people in Rapture and those creepy girls who have "Adam". Oh lord, I thought my nightmare that I had woken from was a reality at first. Ohhh that game sucks. Especially when it's like 10 at night and it's pitch black and your idiot ex hasn't turned on any lights. So needless to say I woke disoriented and terrified until I realized it was the game that he was playing and then I was angry he'd turned it up so loud that it woke me. Hahaha, cause seriously at ten at night with neighbors your volume on your tv doesn't need to be three clicks away from max volume.
