Two questions.

Is there a guide on upgrading the recovery file. I'm running RA-evo-v1.7.0.2 right now?

Also, I've flashed to cm6 and the new snap kernel. Everytime my evo reboots I have to clear the caches and reflash the kernel to get it working. Is there a solution for this?

From XDA, this is the method I used:

Code:
Copy recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img to the root of your sdcard
start the terminal app or launch adb
su(press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-evo-v1.8.0.img(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)

[Recovery] [28-August-2010] RA-evo-v1.8.0 - xda-developers

I actually used the terminal emulator app to do this... On the first try it gave me a space error and deleted my old recovery. Second try, same method, worked like a charm.

The battery is quite good so far. Today's the first day I've put it to the test. Unplugged since 9:30 am and it is now 2:30 so 5 hours so far with moderate use and its at 80%. Save to say its been holding up well.
As much as I love CM6 and the snaps I wasn't getting good battery life with the latest CM6 ROM and 8.2nhavs800. Yes my phone loves being UV. So I went with Fresh 3.2 and netarchys-toast Kernel 4.1.9 so far 15hrs unplugged with almost 4hrs of use with some tether and heavy web browsing and I'm @ 20%.
