Just wanted to let everyone know that the new Incredibles are not being shipped with Froyo despite the Verizon Wireless website saying so. I ordered mine on Friday afternoon 8/27 and received it yesterday, Tues afternoon 8/30. The VZ rep told me it would indeed be shipped with Froyo since "we wouldn't put it on our website if it wasn't true". Well, shocker, it wasn't true and they shipped me my new Incredible running 2.1. Very frustrating.

or you can just chill and wait for the update.

I never got the whole "OMG! I NEED TO HAVE IT NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOW. *sob*cry*wah*sad*dies*"

I have it. It's not *all that*. Based on my normal usage, I can say that virtually nothing is different. The update that I've used the most? Flashlight, and that's just because I was playing with it. A lot of people are expecting this dramatic overhaul, and they're going to be disappointed. Yes there are some big changes, but nothing that I would consider doing seppuku if I didn't get it RIGHT NOW. jeez.

Your reading comprehension is very poor. I posted the message to let other potential Incredible owners know that they should not assume they will receive a new Incredible with Froyo already installed, despite what Verizon may tell you.

I was specifically told the new Incredible I purchased would be running Froyo. The Verizon Wireless website states that fact and the Verizon rep told me it would come with Froyo when I asked her.

But I really appreciate you telling me to "chill". That is great advice, thanks.

thats prob bc froyo just got released and havent hit every phone yet... so it will eventually be on th phones they ship or as soon as the person turns it on they will get an update...

+1
There are reports of people walking out of the store after activation and getting the update soon after.

On a side note, I am beginning to think it is related to MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier)!

My guess is they are randomly choosing a group of MEID's and pushing the update to those. Once your MEID is in the queue, as soon as it hits a tower the update rolls.

Just a hunch of mine!

I am willing to bet that Verizon was both right and wrong.

Most likely all new phones manufactured after a certain date have 2.2 already on them. Probably any phones after 8/27 but who knows...

That doesn't mean that the phone you recently ordered will have it though, because your "new" phone could have been manufactured before 2.2 was ready. Just because you just got it doesn't mean it hasn't been sitting in a warehouse for a couple of weeks.

Actually, no...Verizon is completely wrong. And I don't know much clearer I can be. I specifically asked if it would come shipped with Froyo and was promised it would be.

If you went to McDonald's and ordered a cheeseburger in the drive thru, then drove home, opened up the bag, and you got a hamburger, who's fault is it? Was the McDonald's "right and wrong" as you say? No, they are completely in the wrong and screwed you out of your damn cheeseburger...

And my whole point of posting this topic was to let others know that if you're promised by the Verizon rep that it will come with Froyo running, don't buy it.

Whoa... down boy! I wasn't saying that YOU were wrong, or that you even did anything wrong. I was attempting to explain what the most likely reason is for Verizon saying that it would have Froyo when it doesn't.

I get that you were told something and it didn't happen. Sucks for you. But no need to get all bent out of shape over it.

All I am saying is that most likely the Verizon reps were told that all phones being manufactured now will have 2.2. And some (or many) of them misunderstood that to mean that phones shipping now will have them.

It sucks but it's completely understandable. And it happens ALL the time. It's not that big of a deal. Expecially seeing as how your phone will get the update in the next week or two anyway. It's not like you were promised something that you will never receive.

If you are mad, call Verizon and take it out on them, not us. Not that they will care. But being argumentative and rude in your first couple of posts here isn't a great first impression...

It'll come, be patient. What's a couple days. You order a phone right in the middle of an update roll out, it should be expected that it could be hit or miss. Either way you will get it within the first week of your phones life. That's not bad. A lot of us that fell in love with the phone before its released have been waiting since April for Froyo.

Question, how did you get a new Incredible within 3 days of ordering it. I thought they were in high demand and about 2 weeks out.

Chill out, guys... Here's how it works...

Few things are made on-demand, and that includes phones. When you buy one, the factory doesn't spin up its line to produce one phone just for you. Phones are manufactured weeks, if not months, in advance.

I'd venture to guess that every Incredible sold going forward still ships with 2.1. It will probably be this way until the product is no longer sold. For us, it my seem trivial to update the base image that gets programmed on the phones, but for HTC and Verizon there is cost associated in the entire process. Verizon has already moved on from the Incredible to at least two other flagship devices. It's likely they won't retool for the Incredible.

If you need Froyo today, just Unrevoked the sucker and flash one of several very nice Sense-based, OTA-based ROMs. My favorite is Virtuous.
