Froyo (andriod 2.2) hotspot/tether

Okay, I just go the 2.2 update on my Droid classic from manual install. The tethering at came with 2.2 works perfectly, just as functional as my home internet connection. However, I'm looking for the hot-spot thing, can't find it. I've been seeing some news the hot-spot ordeal has been canceled, but I'm also see that the built in tether was also canceled, which is obviously false. What's the real scoop on the hot-spot function??

Hotspots function is a paid thing from Verizon for like $20/ month...I seriously doubt it will ever come to a phone..simply because you can use so much more data with a feature like that.

Mind sharing how to USB tether..haven't figured that out yet.

Some phone out on the market already has it, the name escapes me at the moment. Android phones are supposedly getting it with 2.2 updates, I'm looking for the final answer to this. Anyone know if 2.2 actually came with wireless hot-spot? Did they cancel it?

Plug the phone into your computer with the USB cord. On the phone get 2.2 android update> go in the main phone settings>wireless & networks>Tethering>check box next to tethering>haz internets.

edit: above post says the phone i was thinking about = Pre plus

I just followead the directions on this page anew it went smoothly.
Manually Update Your Motorola Droid to Froyo (Android 2.2) | Android Phone Fans

And I believe I said somewhere that the hotspots feature on the pre was a sales pitch since palm was loosing the smartphone battle BIG time.

Also I got the tethering to work....I actually figured it out about 2 minutes after Iposted that...I never actually went into wireless and networks...haha.

I do that and I get redirected to a VZW page telling me to call and pay $15 or $20 a month for tethering.

Do you get the same or are you able to surf freely?

Okay, so did the update and yes it is much prettier (sorry to be girlie about it) however, being that I am a gamer I have all the Storm 8 ones and the mobylong also. I am having problems now with these. The background does not change? I see the opening screen behind the new screen and it flashes and glitches. Anyone have any ideas? Other than this I LOVE 2.2 and VZ was taking forever!

If you want to use the free app wireless tether for hotspot you need to root first

You can use Wireless Tether and Universal Androot to do this. Universal Androot 1.6.1 is a 1-click root app which is very easy to use. Universal Anroot doesn't work with all apps that require root access but it does work with Wireless Tether as well as Root Explorer and SetCPU.

Universal Androot is not available on the market.

I set up the tether with the pdanet app

1 download the app from market
2 in the app click on the link to the designers website
3 download the pc program to your sd card
4 hook up the usb and install the program from your sd to your pc
5 unhook the usb, turn on tethering on your phone, and plug back in

I think you have to have usb debugging on
