While I've had a couple Samsung phones, I've never had one where I dealt with system and firmware upgrades. I wonder what the odds are of Samsung offering updates to address some of its criticisms, like TouchWiz performance and the pointlessness of the Cube (like let us customize the choices on it or reroute that button [I see the former being a much more realistic upgrade]).

I swapped out my Behold 2 yesterday and today the new one had worst battery then the last one. On the one I turned in, with some minor tweaking, I could get it threw the work day (8 Hours non-active) with the new one, its dying in around 6. I noticed that when I killed apps on the 1st one they stayed killed for a period of time. The new one seems to have a problem with apps staying dead.

For example, the calendar on my first BH2 was a battery pig and if i killed the widget, it would let up. On this new one, there seems to be no difference. This is so driving me nuts, cause the hardware is a decent set of specs, but the software sucks so much that it makes me want to compromise on what I want to just have a phone that works ><;

Do you spend a lot of time in an area with spotty coverage? I know that with other cell phones if they are constantly looking for a signal that that can really drain the battery.

That's Interesting!

on TMobile forum someone was complaining that the phone did not answer, a call just went to voice-mail.

This is the same problem!

(a poor T-Mobile signal causes battery drain AND calls not being picked up just going to voicemail)
Poor TMobile signal happens all over the place! In elevators and in specific rooms there are dead spots.

great detective work!

I for one have seemed to fix my battery issues for the most part.

I got rid of just about every widget on my home screens, and had just icons. Taskiller not running in the background, and checking with Spare Parts, my phone is asleep most of the time. This is with Background data, 3G, and GPS all back on too. I got around 5 hours before dropping to about 85% battery, which is much much better than my original 8 hours on a full charge to dead.

I think some phones may have had shotty batteries with them, but others might simply be the applications you have running that are keeping the phone awake.

Just my 2 cents

so i have had the phone for about a week now.... the phone is great i think, the only i don't like bout the phone is that is running on 1.5. i think an update will make the phone run excellent. the screen looks enormous even tho its barely bigger. the samsung keyboard is awesome no need to download other versions, unless u like, the camera, well is awesome as it should be. the messaging settings are a lil annoying being that u cannot remove the notifications from the status bar... its a lil ********. but overall good experience i have had so far.... i was using the mytouch before this came out and the mytouch was a good phone but lacked a great camera. been waiting for the behold 2 since i saw the galaxy..... so worth the wait. let me know if u have any questions... i am an authorized dealer so all i do is talk about phones all day.

Not that I'm aware of. My BlackBerry 8320 could last two days with wifi (I think alittle longer if I turned off the wifi) and IM running in the background so, I don't think I'm in a bad coverage area . . . . but that didn't use 3G.

Right now, its very hard to love something and have a big ugly spot that says you can't have it. For all the fail points that Samsung made; Touchwiz, Cube, covering up features, with alternative homes and keyboard replacements I've gotten around those ugly points. However this battery issue I can't get around it. I'm pretty positive that I'm getting about the same battery life as before with the first BH2.

apontepower: What type of battery life are you getting? What do you leave on (3G, Wifi, other)? How long does it take to completely charge the phone? Whats your general phone usage like? EX: Phone calls, app usage, web browsing, messaging (IM included), taking photos of shooting video.

tikiral: I'll ask you the same questions that I'm asking apontepower.

I just don't want to be stuck with a turkey phone cause hardware wise I really love what the phone has in it compared to current phones. If I'm gonna be in contract for two years (remembers how trapped I felt with my BB in the last year) I don't want a bad experience for two years if its something I can fix or exchange. However their is a limit on how long ill play chicken. I have till the 14th of December and if these problems aren't fixed by then ill opt to take it back.

Ive been doing a battery test since yesterday morning. I have the brightness set at the lowest setting, I have 3G, Wifi, GPS, Background Data, and Auto Sync turned off, and I have been using the phone for web browsing (~1.5 hours), text messaging (~30), and games (~1 hour). I have not made or received any calls on this charge, and I have it set so that I have to enter a visual password on waking the phone. I have also been using TasKiller to periodically kill any potential energy-sucking apps.

According to Spare Parts, my phone has been on for 27 hours and 17 minutes, with 28% battery life left.

Hm... a schedule from my phone's PoV =)
Disconnect from charger at 7A. Wifi/Bluetooth/Screen off. GPS/3G on.
Until about 5P, Wifi is usually off. Bluetooth never goes on. Screen timeout is at 1 minute. At the office here, there is no 3G coverage, so it's on edge from 8A - 4P. I never turn GPS off.

I don't make or receive many calls on a given day, but typically send a dozen or so texts using Handcent SMS. The phone also is constantly (every 15s or so) polling Twitter/Facebook for updates. Running Facebook, Beautiful Home, Beautiful Wifi/Silent, Calendar and Search widgets. Beautiful Home polling is 15 minutes.

Don't really play a lot of Music on it throughout the day, nor do I browse the web using the phone much (only browse/game when in meetings! so maybe an hour or two a day?).

In the evening, I have Wifi on for my home network and frequently browse the web, play some games (mostly Bonsai Blast if that makes any difference) and occasionally watch videos or take photos of the kids.

When I head off to bed, I turn off Wifi, turn on Silent mode, turn the screen off and throw it on the AC charger. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how long a full charge takes as it's all set when I get up and grab it.

There was an app that I saw before that would actually break down battery usage by application, but I forget what that was. Checked it out with a coworker while doing some development on a G1 a while back. If I manage to find out which app that was, I can post some %'s.

Hope that helps?

Taro;
I totally understand your fears of being stuck 2 years with a phone that doenst fit you. I had the myTouch for 5 days and had to trade it in for the Behold2 and now am thinking that the BB Bold 9700 my be a better FIT for me. i have 3 days to decided before i am locked in for 2 years.

LOL, thats funny since I jumped ship on the Blackberry side ^^;. They just don't wanna make it easy on us >.>; Ill tell you that it's not that BlackBerry's are bad phones, its just that I felt that RIM made it obvious that once your phone reaches EOL, thats it for your phone. I also felt that the developers seemed very focused on selling to businesses then consumers with prices that a business would be more comfortable to pay.

I'm thinking on cancelling my upgrade so I can get another 30 days to test a phone. However im still kinda confused on which one ill get since the BH2 isn't the phone for me MyTouch 3G vs Moto Cliq. Any thoughts on it?

sux that your giving up on the behold2 (the only phone so far thats "said" to be getting androisd 2.0).
for me i tried out the myTouch for a week and returned it. the camera was to orangy/yellow tint for my taste. FOR ME i like the behold better.
The Cliq looks like a kewl phone (plus with the new software upgrade its better) i just dont need the physical keyboard just extra dead weight in my pocket.

I am 99% in love with my behold, touchWiz, and PIMPTACULAR screen. i just havent come to grips with the battery life of a smart phone. but after todays test (see thread update of my previous link) i am 99.5% in love.

i wish you luck in your search, remember that android is advancing faster and faster each day and the popularity of the droid on vzw will just add to the fire :) thats why i am sticking with the behold2 and skipping the outdate Blackberry's

I had to return my Behold2.
The Hardware is great!
The Software is not, and the lack of physical keyboard is a killer, combined with lousy keyboard screen software. I could search the android apps but I think the Moto Cliq will be much better, Moto also has a lot of software support for the phone which I think Sam does not have.
my 2 cents,

Yea, unfortunately for the behold community, I did the exact same thing on Wednesday so you probably won't see me post anymore on the Behold 2 forums, sorry guys

Is anyone else using a 16 gb card on thier behold 2? i was able to get a replacement phone sent to me(after a long process) as well as replaced my 16 gb sd card just in case it had been corrupted and its still doing the thing where the sd card is demounted and quickly remounted 1/2 a second later. This has to be a glitch in the software im thinking. At least with my new behold 2 which ive had since saturday my sd card has not been erased as was my previous card on my previous behold. Its a minor iritation now i just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem?
