Alright, somebody PLEASE help me out with this:

If I install the RUU windows XP 2.2 update(the one with the "super simple instructions") will I still be able to use the phone on another carrier?? I know it makes you lose root, so...is root what you need to use it on another carrier?

I ask this because I'm in China, and I bought the phone here. They did all the rooting/unlocking for me. So I have no idea what rom or whatever I'm using. All I know is that its not using Verizon. If I do this RUU install will I lose the ability to use my phone on the carrier here?

The phones been asking me to update all day, I keep telling it to install later because the guys here said if I do the official update they would have to unlock it again, But that I could download the update on a computer and install it that way...vague bastards.

Please help me guys, nobody here can explain this to me in English.

This is nuts, can somebody at least tell me if root is what's required to use the phone on another carrier???

That would be a question for the people you purchased it from. I am willing to bet that 99.9% of us with the Incredible only use it on Verizon and have no idea that it is possible to use it on a different carrier. For us in the U.S. it most likely is impossible due to how the CDMA carriers work with serial numbers and such.

Sorry, I know you're frustrated. I've seen you pose this question a couple times. I just don't think there are many people running on a carrier other than VZW.

When I installed the RUU I didn't have to reprogram my phone. The phone worked as soon as it booted up after the install. I don't know if that will be the case for you though.

Can you go back to where you bought it? You should probably wait for Froyo on the Inc to be rooted as well.....
