Help Reboots and low battery

Hi everybody!
So far, I'm loving this phone, despite the glitches that it suffers from.

In an attempt to get the battery conditioned, I ran the phone all the way down yesterday, powered it off, and charged it overnight.

One thing I noticed is that when the phone got down under 15%, there were a handful of times that the interface would freeze briefly for a few seconds, and then the phone would reboot itself.

Eventually, I ran it down the the point where, after it rebooted, it would tell me that the battery was too low and that it was shutting off.

I would expect that if the phone were shutting down because of a low battery, it would prompt me somehow to let me know, instead of just rebooting.

Has anyone else noticed this same behavior? I've only had the phone for a few days, but so far, it's only done the reboot thing when the battery was under 15%.

I ran my battery down until it shut off automatically. No warning just a "shutting down" message appeared. Not a big deal for me as I was playing Gem Miner (very addictive) to wear the battery down anyway. After it shut down I was able to power it up 2 more times before it was good and dead before charging. I did this for 3 days now my wife thinks I am always playing that game

Happened to me for the first time today! It was weird. I was in the middle of using an app (I was below 15%) and suddenly it went black and then I was staring at the android boot screen (skipped the fancy Sprint loading screen). Not sure what to think about this? Oh well, not a big deal... for now...

I've had the phone below 15% plenty of times and while the low light thing is annoying, I've never seen any slowdowns or reboots.

Were you below 15, 5 or 3%? I have only seen the battery meter show 100,90,80,70,60,50,40,30,15,5,3 percentages.

It could have been the application rebooted your phone. I have had that happen on a few poor ones. When it shuts down it shows a shutdown message for about 10 seconds before shutting down.

I've had this happen several times to me when it's under 15%... and I've only had my phone for about 48 hours now. I figured it was expected behavior... but apparently it isn't?

I had this problem with my 3rd moment. It would lock up and reboot sometimes when battery gets low enough.

When my phone was at 15% and below earlier this evening, I was texting quite a bit with my wife while she waited for her flight home from a business trip.

I've been listening to a podcast with Google listen for a while now.

The phone has yet to reboot itself today, and I've been at 5% for quite some time now.

I haven't been using the browser or looking through the android market like i was yesterday though, which is what I was doing when it restarted a few times yesterday.

Yeah I guess I should mention that every time the phone has rebooted on me I've been in the browser or the market. I should see if I can get it to reboot just messing around with the homescreen. I'm getting worried now... I don't think my battery life has been very good either... I'm wondering if I should try getting it swapped out.

I made it through last night without it rebooting at all.

Total battery time was almost 16 hours for yesterday. I'm not sure exactly how much time was spent on the phone or browsing, or how many texts I sent. I just know it took more usage than normal to kill it by the time I went to bed.

All in all, battery life seems to be OK for my needs. It doesn't seem to be much less than my Mogul was.

If you're seeing rebooting in the browser and market as well, I'm wondering if it's not some sort of software glitch.

At this point, the phone isn't bad. I'll just wait patiently and hope that we get a 2.0 upgrade at some point in the next few months.

My first Moment also had this problem, shutting down and rebooting or needing the battery pulled and put back to turn back on. No, this is not normal or acceptable behavior!

I swapped it out and got a replacement. I am now getting at least a day off of a charge with top up, and on my present charge am at 40% with light usage over the past 60 hours!

To get that, I had to cycle the battery several times, and use the settings such as turning gps, background data, wifi, auto sync data and bluetooth off unless I'm using them along with turning the screen brightness down (quick settings makes in the task bar makes this easy) and running advanced task manager to kill some of the many apps such as NFL that start in the background by default, especially upon start up.

Plus, I had a weird quirk where the replacement phone was dropping nearly all of my calls as soon as I got my face near it. Somehow the proximity sensor got goofed up. I was going to return the phone, but ended up deciding a factory default reset, which though a pain was still a better idea before going through that hassle. Turns out that's all it needed! Good luck to any of you still having issues, it took me a few weeks of reading the forums and playing with settings to get everything squared away.

When this happens it is not a reboot, it means the android subsystem process either stopped or crashed and it is restarting. You can vailidate this by looking at the uptime on the phone, when one of these events occurs it will not reset the uptime. Meaning that the phone did not reboot. So there is some condition that causes the subsystem to restart in low battery conditions, unfortunately I have not been able to pull the logs afterwards to see what they contain, as the program to pull the logs just clocks and never returns them.

Now that you mention it, I do recall thinking it was odd that what I thought were reboots didn't seem to reset the uptime counter.

It hasn't done it except for the few times that one night when I was trying to kill the battery.
