Lets just hope some more main stream games make it to the mighty Droid now. NFS Shift is AMAZING. Graphics are stunning, and runs like a wet dream.

I'd love to see the likes of Call of Duty, Bioshock, Assassins Creed, and a few others, instead of the crap isometric, or sideways scrollers we have now as mainstream titles.

Shame tat we'll never see any HUGE RPG games like Fallout 3, Dragon Age, or Mass Effect, on our bad boys.

I take it back. Just checked out Gameloft. Some of those new Droid games look stunning.

Be careful my friend. Some gameloft games are VERY badly optimised for Android devices and performance can be a problem, especially on HTC Desire.

Take Asphalt... I tried the demo on the market. Sometimes it runs very smoothly, at other points it is unplayable. And if you buy direct from Gameloft, no refunds are available.

NFS:Shift has shown once and for all that snapdragon devices can compete graphically with the iPhone... so its time for other devs to step up.

It is a truly great game and agree that it does show off the power of the beast we all have :D

Have unistalled it for now as left me with only 3mb of memory and kept getting that annoying low memory warning. Will wait until I've rooted and can get true Apps2SD. Got no apps that I want to remove. Still got the apk file on my SD ready for some fun :D

As others have said above, I am also worried that this game needs access to so many elements of the phone. Is there any chance there is malicious code within?

Does anyone know if there will be an official release of this game? I have it on PS3 and its a brilliant game, so I'd very much like to have it on my phone too.

From some of the above comments, have we also established that even on V2.2, the game cannot be installed on the SD card unless the phone is "rooted"? I'm new to Android so I will need to do further investigations to determine exactly what that entails, but it sounds risky on a brand new phone for someone who doesnt yet know what they are doing..

My phone appears to have about 100mb remaining, so I expect it wont install on the internal memory. I'm sure my phone is supposed to have 512mb, so where on earth has the other 400mb gone, I wonder..?

Lots of questions there that should probably be threads in their own right, I guess. Lets see how it goes.

Cheers,
Steve

Sorry about the broken link the guy running the blog decided to stop supporting the advice therein:

Here are the instructions:

How to Install Apps to the SD Card by Default on Android 2.2 Froyo | larsa | Androinica

First you have to enable USB debugging on your Android device from Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Now you need to download and install the Android SDK on your computer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/.

Once you’ve downloaded and extracted the package to the folder of your choice, run SDK Setup.exe and click on Available Packages to the left. If you get an error message at this point, enable “Force https://…” in the Settings. From the list of available packages, select “Usb Driver package”, click on the Install Selected button in the bottom right corner and follow the prompts.

Connect your phone to your computer with a USB-cable. Your OS will prompt you to install new drivers. Choose to install them from the android-sdk/usb_driver folder. Do not mount your device; you only need to plug-in the cable.

Next, run a command prompt and navigate to the Android-SDK\tools folder. In Windows, this is done by selecting Run from the Start Menu (or by pressing Win+R) and typing cmd. You change drives in the command prompt by entering the drive letter followed by a colon :)), and change folders with the CD command. For example, to enter the Android-SDK folder, simply type cd android-sdk.

In the Android-SDK\tools folder, type in adb devices and you should get a serial number starting with “H” in return. All you have to do next is entering adb shell pm setInstallLocation Voil

Stu, thanks for posting the info here. Thats much more useful than a link, and it means its here forever. It all sounds quite deep stuff though, so I'll wait until I'm a bit more experienced with this phone before I try it all.

Nice one though, much appreciated by me and I expect lots of others too (assuming they look in this post for the info). Perhaps get this posted as a new link and get it stickied?

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks bass, I've added the guide in full to the new sub forum for Tips and Tricks as all the previous stickies have been sub sectioned and moved to the relevant sub forum. The most difficult part is actually installing the SDK. Once you have cracked that its a piece of cake.

That said I will try and create a .BAT file if I have time that will then take care of the rest. Only problem with getting it to work however will be down to where the SDK gets installed.

No worries. You are right... easily best 3d game on Android at the moment. And it runs flawlessly on the desire. Some of the menus seem a little low resolution, but once you are racing it is very sharp and SMOOOOOOTH.

I highly recommend anyone with a Desire get this game!

For those unsure how... download the .apk file (after searching on google and MAKE SURE YOU GET THE VERSION FOR SNAPDRAGON).

Connect you phone to comp. Make a new folder called "NFS" at the top level of the SD Card. Then go to applications setting and select "run non-market apps" or whatever it is called.

Then open Astro file manager (free download from market) and navigate to .apk file. Click it and tell the phone to install. Install will take about 30 seconds.

Congrats... you now have best game available for Android. For Free!
i did all of the above....the game installed but when i press the icon to play...first the ea logo comes up and then after a few seconds it goes back to the mobile home page !!! any help?
