Don't be shy - admit it - have you dropped your droid yet?

lol...mine flew out of my pouch today walking down the stairs at my house. The snap on the pouch was open. Good thing it was carpet over wood. It hit the stairs, the battery cover flew off, and the battery got knocked out. Seems to have survived.

I got the $7.99/mo plan at VZ. Covers accidental breakage, stolen, loss, and extended mfg warranty. I know it's a rip, but if I drop it outside, and the screen cracks, I'd be looking at $500+ to replace. What are you going to do... Seidio is coming out with a full protection case for the moto droid soon. I'll be picking one up along with the extended battery when they're out.

So far no.

I'm a compulsive phone dropper though so.. we'll see how long I can make it. I also don't use any protective coverings as I tried it with the Voyager and eventually got tired of it and just decided to go in the nude. So if I drop this - it's gunna hurt!

Let's hear it. Who's dropped it? On concrete perhaps? Ouchies?
I dropped it yesterday for the first time. I was playing with the dog in the back yard. It fell on hard dirt. Didn't seem to get hurt, though, thank God. :D

I dropped my droid the other day in my driveway. It didn't land on any edges, but landed face down. I knew that could only be bad bad, even though it was only about a 2 foot drop. I picked it up and flipped it over, where I saw this:

Believe it or not, but the phone still works, even though it looks horrible.

I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with Asurion and with Verizon. Asurion was telling me that they didn't have any droids in stock and didn't know when they would get one in. I called Verizon who thought that was insane and they contacted Asurion to see what was up. The fact of the matter is that the phone is so new that Asurion doesn't have any refurbs to send out (which is the only thing you can get from them).

Something must have worked though, because this morning I got an email saying I would have my replacement tomorrow.

And I also tried the less than 30 day option with verizon and was told that with damage to the phone I didn't qualify to return it to them directly.

The thing to take away from this is to make sure that you buy the insurance or you will be buying a new $500 phone at the store.
Wow!! I hope you get a new phone soon at no charge or very little charge.

I DO have the Asurion insurance, and I'm seriously considering getting the other kind of insurance (the brand-new replacement one instead of the refurbished one Asurion gives you).
I'm glad I read this. I'll ask about that other insurance too. Never heard of it.

God, I hope I haven't jinxed myself here....
God, no. You're good. ;)

Mine vibrated off of my dresser at night onto the floor. Woke up, went to reach for it and couldn't find it. Looked down and there it was on the floor w/ the battery cover off. WTF, I said. No damage at all (fell on carpet).

Another time I was getting out of a friend's car and it fell out of my jacket pocket, bounced off the center console and got lodged between the seat and console. No damage.

I just called Verizon to discuss their insurance options. There's no "brand new replacement" insurance option. The higher of the 2 insurance options that Verizon offers adds 1 year of manufacturer warranty to the Droid, but that does not include user-related damage (i.e. dropping the phone).

I was at the gun range for the first time today, handed my DROID to my grand dad, clean exchange but he lost it when he put it up to his ear. No dents or scuffs but one very bad thing happened... my calls got extremely staticy. On my end it was bad, but on the other end it was all static.

I have insurance and the extended warranty on my phone, so hopefully I can get a replacement.

On Thanksgiving I was riding a bike and it flew out of my pocket onto the street, lots of little marks on the battery door and a huge dent in the side that made it difficult to slide open/close.

Quick call to verizon and I have a new one sitting in front of me :)

What kind of quick call to verizon?? I've dropped my droid 3 (three!!) times and I've scratched up the metal something bad. I'd prefer not to have these, and if I can get a replacement (new) within my 30 days (not under insurance) I would be one happy little gal...

I forgot to give a followup to my broken droid. The insurance came through and actually sent me a brand new phone. I did have to pay the $89 co-payment, but the best part was that i got to keep my existing battery and accessories.

So now I have a brand new phone along with a backup battery and extra charging cables.
