Hey, from a newbie "smartphone" droid owner. I'll be more sociable in the future but at the moment I'm dealing with the ex from hell and need help. I've gone through the routine of blocking her number BUT she now calls "RESTRICTED", and I suspect, from someone else's phone. I'm getting feed back that I am out of luck and cannot stop this...ie. block restricted calls. Can anyone tell me how to block callers who do not identify themselves? I know about restricting calls to only those in my contact list but don't want to eliminate 99.999% of the rest of the world. In a world where your phone practically takes your pulse you'd think there would be a way to eliminate the most obvious of annoyances like an annonomous caller. Any help? Hello, Duck. That's one of the best topic titles I've seen around here.

Your issue with the ex is a common one.

To me, if you feel harassed, it may at some point be smart to notify the police, via a non-emergency department phone number, of the problem; they'll likely ask you for some details.

I'd check to see if Verizon still offers a call blocking feature (they used to for land lines) for wireless:

But if I were in that situation I would explain it to Verizon personally and likely request a number change, if the ex were the relentless type.

I'd also try to set up a counselling environment for the two of us, or just for me if she refused.

I agree with the OP, being able to add 'Unknown' to your contacts, and then bounce redirect just unknown numbers automatically should surely be an obvious function.

Anybody know if there's a reason technically why this couldn't be done?

A quick search on the Market has given a few free apps that do this, I've just DL'd CallFilter(free version), will report back on how/if it works.

Yup, it works, and seems tho ber one of many apps with this option to choose from. It had other filtering options too, not investigated them any further though.

Man up and talk to her. Be firm and direct " I do not wish to see or speak with you again, if further harassment continues I will be contacting the police and requesting a restraining order." Passive agressive blocking will not get the point across.

He may have already done that, and that's why he's turning to us in desperation. Sometimes telling a psycho ex to stop calling you is just adding fuel to the crazy fire burning in her head.

Oh iv been in this situation in the past call filter was working until ex was calling from unknown and using different numbers. Here's what I did,just don't pick up n e calls that are not familiar to you,they will get tired of it the more frustrated we get the more enjoyment they get cause they know they are getting to us. I had even a # change but somehoe it leaked.But try this and see.

To the OP:

Get a grip! Be upfront and tell the person to stop calling, period. If not and the person is a nut, not taking her calls could just escalate the situation to where she could/would stalk you or worst. Scary. If she left threatening voicemails, call the police. Take care of this business ASAP or worst scenarios could come when least expected. Good luck.
