Root Guide to Rooting 2.2 for Windows and Linux

i did all the steps but i got the dead battery thing and the only thing that shows when i reboot is "android system" with nothing there. and then it dies. ive done the steps like 5 times and everytime i do the install screen on sprecovery says installation aborted everytime.

ok its most likely that your update.zip is named wrong. Try just naming it update

Windows hides known file extensions so its probably actually named update.zip.zip

Some people have also had to reboot several times to get the update.zip to apply for some odd reason.

If you want to give up on root then download this and put it on the sdcard as update.zip and follow the same instructions. It will get you back to stock.

Hi OMJ, I followed your instructions for Rooting with Windows. Everything seems to have gone well, skipped #24/25 (I have SPR Recovery and Pete's FRG22D Build is installed). I assume I'm rooted because i can see that build in my settings and I have the superuser app. However when I try to install any app that requires root (Titanium, Busybox, Rom Manager) they all keep telling me they can't get access to root permissions. Is there something I'm supposed to click on to grant permissions?

you should get a popup that gives you the option to allow or deny root permissions

I have tried the Linux method however I run into problems when installing update.zip from the sd card. When I go to install it in SPRecovery, I get this error:

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.

So I try to mount the sdcard manually and basically the same thing:

E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
Mounted /sdcard

It says its mounted but I cant get update.zip to install.

Im not entirely sure but my guess would be its an issue with your sdcard. I know some people have had issues with them in the past and just backed up everything on it then formatted it then put everything back and it was good from there.

OMJ: I'm getting prompted to install a 1.6MB update which "includes new enhancements to enable the download of Adobe Flashplayer 10.1 via market and multiple security improvements."

If I d/l this update will it remove root or cause any other problems? Thanks again for your knowledge.

if you accept it you will lose root. If you want the update then flash a FRG22D rom or accept it and then reroot. If you just want the notification to stop then try this fix http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...fication-stopota-zip-bb0-4-a.html#post1510768

Yeah I just worked it out. It is necessary that the sdcard is unmounted or ejected from the computer before turning off usb storage. Thats how i got it to work.

The superuser app I see if the grey'd android with skull-crossbones. There are no Apps in the log tab, it's blank. In the Log tab no information (blank). In Settings it shows Superuser v2.3.5, and my su binary is up to date

Try putting that on your sd card then installing via recovery.

Its the older version of superuser but it works fine. I cant find the version I made that works with SPRecovery at the moment I think the link is on my home computer. I can link you to that when I get home but for now this will work.

OMJ, thanks for the file, I updated thru SPRecovery, however when I try to open Superuser Permissions it continually Force Closes on me. And yes I just realized you said it doesn't work with SPRecovery.. Forgive my noobness but how do I get into regular recovery? Or perhaps I'll just wait til you link the version that works with SPR

flashing that file with SPR is fine. Must be an issue with overwriting the newer version. Give me a little and I will get a fix together.
