For those of you having problems with your Incredible after 2.2

I've been having problems with keyboard lag and lag of the device in general. Also, I think the battery has been lasting a tad bit shorter. The weird thing is that it was amazing for the first few days, and then it starting messing up when everyone else was getting the updates (I did RUU). Trying the hard reset now.

After the hard reset, my battery seems to be lasting a lot longer, but that could be because I have wifi turned off. Typing is still kind of laggy, but not as bad as it was. Browser lags on some pages.

Okay so Im with all of you who lost your 3g. I did as well and Verizon is sending me a new phone.

My biggest problem is with all the random apps opening when the phone isnt even being used. Ill use the task killer, put the phone down, pick it up 5 min later and Ill have VZ navigator, amazon mp3, skype, and even some random games. This is killing my battery.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Buy Startup Auditor for .99 you can block programs from starting up or disable them completely if they're still starting up after you've blocked them. I did it for Amazon MP3, Skype, & VZ Navigator...although Skype still pops up from time to time.

Even after a factory reset, the browser is still worse, and i still have typing lag. Not to mention the awful in car charging.

Change the Flash Plugin to "on demand" it wont download flash content unless u want it to. For example, you will have to touch a youtube video for it to play. Flash is what's lagging the browser. In the future I'm sure this will be fixed when Flash is updated. There is a flash update floating around that will help.

After froyo the moblile network or 3g wouldn't come on unless I turned on and off airplane mode. A few days ago I used the FM radio and after turning it off it showed my headphones still plugged in when it was not. Did a restart and the phone went wackey and would try to start up but fail and it constantly did this for over an hour. After a hard reset things worked good. Last night after coming out of airplane mode it showed that my head phones were plugged in when I hadn't had them in at all. The phone went into the wackey startup thing again for about 10 mins then finally started. Now my 3g won't turn on unless I turn on and off airplane mode again. I think that the head phone issue is do to the fact that FM radio automatically starts up now since froyo and it needs the head phones plugged in to start. These bloatware programs that came with froyo is, I think messing with everything.

That still didn't fix either the awful scrolling, lag, or jittery pages.

one thing i have noticed is that I'm not getting any market update notices anymore. i have it set to tell me "when updated" but unless i manually go in and check i don't get warned anymore. i thought maybe i wasn't giving it enough time but i have had an update ready for the past two days. Nothing!!!!!

anybody else?????? ( i know this really isn't important)

For those of you thinking about hard resetting…the following is what I did. I would guesstimate that approx 90% of my previous settings had been restored.

HTC Incredible

Backup and Wipe

1. Save your current scene environment.
2. Download AppBrain (I already used it)
a. Setup account (free) and sync with server. Update any apps that you wish to update.
b. Remember which apps you decided not to update….make a list of them.
3. Download myBackup Pro. (free trial…you do not have to purchase)
4. Run MyBackup Pro and backup your apps and data to your SD card.
a. I did three backups:
i. Apps
ii. All Data
iii. Only specific data items. (I was unsure if I would be forced to restore the entire
dataset later on; so I made both options available to me. I chose to only to limited
data. (e.g. I restored my contacts from Gmail when I added the account)
5. Go thru individual apps that you may think would have a feature that allows you to backup
anything to the SD card. Like Agenda Widget backs up settings…as well as the Profile App.
6. Plug your phone into your computer and locate your SD card in “My Computer”
a. Copy entire contents to your computer as a backup
b. A hard reset will not erase data on your SD card…but I like to be safe rather than sorry.
7. I made a note of what widgets I had on which screens, just in case something didn’t work right.
8. Perform Hard Reset
a. This may vary depending on 2.1 or 2.2.
i. In 2.1 I believe it was in Menu, Settings, Privacy
ii. In 2.2 its in Menu, Settings, SD Card, FACTORY RESET

Restore

1. Run thru setup screens.
2. Add Google account and allow it to sync whatever it was it used to sync.
3. Go to market and download AppBrain
a. Sync with server and AppBrain will tell you what you have that needs to be installed.
i. This is where preparation comes in handy. Only re-download the apps that you don’t
mind having the most up to date versions. If you know that you like a legacy version of
one of your apps, then cancel the install for that app when prompted. You will be able
to restore it from myBackup Pro.
4. Go to myBackup Pro
a. Restore any apps that still need to be downloaded.
b. Restore data.
c. Go to your programs that you know you manually backed up settings and restore them
from within the app.
5. Done*
a. Well almost done. What you do next will vary by individual. For me I had to restore my
home screen wallpaper, replace a couple of widgets that didn’t load properly.
b. Some programs still required me to manually update the settings. (e.g. Handcent)
c. Some phone settings still had to be changed manually from factory positions.

The above steps get you pretty darn close to a full restore. I simply changed any settings that had to be changed as I noticed them to be different. For those of you who do not or do not wish to use AppBrain you can simply restore all of your apps from the backup, but I believe that causes some sort of mismatch with the Market. In other words…when you go into Market and filter on downloads, none of your apps will be there since they were manually installed. I am not sure if this would prevent the Market from identifying you as an app owner and notifying you of an update. Maybe someone else can weigh in.
Please feel free to alter/copy/add more to this set of instructions. I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of doing a factory reset. I am fairly OCD about things like this…and I am happy with my result.

Ok my problems so far on top of the problems listed...

1. My GPS is pretty crappy. Not even accurate at all. Before it used to zero down to like 7-10 meters. Now its like 50-100+ And now my navigation feature doesn't even work. Before I can put in an address and hit navigate. It would give the turn by turn direction...now it just stop and says "Searching for GPS" it can locate me and give me a list of the directions but can't do turn by turn. Trust me the GPS was set on. I checked all the SETTING > LOCATION...played around with it

2. The camcorder doesn't work anymore. Everytime I used it...hit record...it would just freeze up and restart. Camera is fine just camcorder doesn't work.

1. It sounds like it's triangulating your signal instead of GPS. Or the internal GPS decoder or whatever is off. Either way, probs do a factory reset.

2. I had the same issue, It turns out i had a couple of corrupted video files in my camcorder library. It didn't happen on 2.1, but for some reason, I guess the way the 2.2 drivers display previews made it so that as soon as a preview of the corrupted video loaded, the camera would FC without warning. I deleted the two offending videos and the problem went away.

1. Google Android OS and learn a bit about how it works.

2. Accept that this is normal behavior and stop trying to fight it with task killers.

Your actions are causing far more battery drain than apps pre-caching into memory are. Apps sitting idle in memory are NOT using your battery. You browsing them and killing them (after which they'll simply be cached again, since this is how Android OS works) IS using your battery.

Agree 100%, just want to add...
3. Download System Panel, and use that to see if any of the apps are actually using CPU/network in the background (hint, they aren't).

This is a known problem with the newer (newest?) radio flashes and the camcorder. If you're rooted, you can flash to an older radio to solve this issue. If you're not rooted, I don't think there's much you can do.

A Class Action suit??? Are you crazy? What are you going to claim as your damages? Talk about frivolous law suits.
They screwed up a perfectly working phone for starters and maybe they need to get sued to get things rolling towards better quality assurance when it comes to pushing bullcrap updates. For some people, this is thier only line of communiction and they have maybe put some at risk with this terrible update.

Ironically enough there are people screaming that Motorola should be sued because they're not updating the OS on certain phones. You can't have it both ways and you can't toss around law suits every time something doesn't work for you.

I read through a good number of these replies but have not seen anything that resembles what I am going through.

I got the 2.2 OTA update on September 3rd. Soon after getting I started experiencing sudden freezes/crashes while doing normal things like making a text message, answering my phone, or checking my mail.

So far my DInc has crashed while:
receiving a phone call (5+ times)
making phone calls (several times)
during phone calls (3x)
sending a text message (7+ times)
changing ringer options (once)
using google maps (4+ times)
changing wallpaper (3+ times)
using pandora (several times)
using K-9 Mail (several times)
checking weather (several times)
changing alarm clock settings (several times)

This frustration has forced me to downgrade back to 2.1. Under 2.1 I have not had my DInc crash on me once.

Used 2.1 for a day without any problems. Went to a few forums and decided to give 2.2 another try. Though this time I went and installed some recovery programs. This time I installed it over USB using the legit google/verizon update file. Seemed to be fine. Then I crashed while making a text message... was a little upset... then I crashed again while using the market place. ... So I said screw that and recovered a 2.1 backup.

So now im back to 2.1. Trying to figure out how to kill the 2.2 update notification. I think I'm going to stick with 2.1 indefinitely.

I think you can delete an update.apk or soemthing that'll make the OTA noti. stop.

There are two issues that I've been able to identify that are indeed tied to 2.2. Something deep within the kernel code, I suppose.

1.) Slower charging - I've gone from stock 2.1 to SkyRaider 3.0 RC2 (which is based off a 2.2 leak). I noticed the slow charging right off the bat. Using the ammeter I used before for tests, the Inc is now pulling only about half the power it used to when charging. That means that with our factory 1A charger, it is only charging at about 500mA. Even slower when charging on USB. Ridiculous.

2.) The no-3G issue - I have this as well. I have to go into the settings and cycle Airplane mode every time I reboot the phone to get my 3G to come back.

Both of these issues have been present since my phone went to 2.2. I have also downgraded to 2.1 (problems went away) and then upgraded to the official RUU, same issues. I'm not sure how much the kernel will affect the 3G issue (not likely), but I'm sure it's responsible for the slow charging issue.

I thought it was confirmed HTC did this in the 2.2 update to stop the battery from getting so hot while charging..

Maybe it is, but it's a poor fix and not one I care for. I never had overheating problems, even with Pandora and GPS going at the same time. Phone would charge perfectly fine.

I'm looking into what kernels could be available to give me back 2.1 charging. The 3G issue is still annoying, though.

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere but since 2.2 the one annoying thing I'm noticing is that after getting a missed call notification and doing a clear of the notification panel the notification comes back. Is 2.2 actually requiring you to go out and look at the missed call and/or delete it from history? With 2.1 all I had to do was clear the panel and it never came back.

I been having Battery Issues with 2.2

I am not sure why there is all this crap on my phone...I tried to update my contacts and it doubled my contacts. Also pictures from Facebook used to be for my Contacts and now I can't figure out how to get all my People from Facebook's pics as their Visual ID When they call or text.

My battery seems like it drains faster then it used to I got a 1750 MaH Seidio battery as well.

How hard is it to Root and will it erase everything when I root the phone?
