Calendar Error with Sprint Hero

Hey all,
ever since I activated my Sprint Hero in October, I get this error that pops up: "Sorry! The application com.android.providers.calendar (process com.htc.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." It's driving me crazy, because it's causing my calendar to not sync...appointments created on the device do not flow to GCal, and vice versa. I have the 1.56.651 update from Sprint applied the day it came out. I think the calendar problems have to do with this process crashing. Anyone else seeing this? Any recommendations?

Ok, I finally got mine to work (for now at least).. I unchecked the data sync for calendar, then went to applications and cleared the data on the calendar and .com.providers.calendar (I think that's what it was) then rebooted and went back and checked calendar under settings-data sync. Earlier I couldn't find the .com.providers.calendar to clear, so I think something was corrupt in there...

Works great, finally!

I didn't do a factory reset. I carefully hand-entered all the data from my phone's calendar onto my online calendar. Then I went the route of clearing the data on the calendar and .com.providers.calendar, and now my phone's calendar will sync with my online calendar. I can now add items using my phone's calendar, and they appear on my online calendar. Calendar items that I created online are not changeable with my phone, though. At least, not certain parts of the item.

When I create an item online, there's no way to set up reminders for my phone. However, once that item is on my phone's calendar, I can edit it to include phone-based reminders.

It's not perfect, but it works for me.

My calendar sync works... sort of.

My Data synchronization > Google > Calendar is checked.

I have calendar entries on my Sprint HTC Hero and on my Google Calendar. Entries that I input into my phone calendar do not upload to my Google Calendar, but it does work the other way; i.e. entries I input into my Google Calendar show up on my phone calendar.

If I un-check then re-check the Google Calendar sync on my phone, the phone goes through it's sync process, but there is no change in what gets synchronized; i.e. it's still one-way from Google to my phone and no data transfers from my phone up to Google.

There are two colors of entries on my phone. The blue ones are those that I created on the phone. The red ones are those that came from Google.

I'd prefer that ALL calendar entries regardless of their input source be synchronized back and forth.

I have been using my phone calendar for quite a while and have a large number of calendar entries in it, so the idea (as was a solution for previous posts) of copying (actually inputting) my phone calendar entries into Google, then clearing the phone data, and then doing a sync... will be quite a time consuming task for me.

Even if I did this, when I then create calendar entries on my phone, there's no guarantee that they'll properly sync with my Google Calendar. That is, it's only working one way now so who's to say that it'll work both ways afterwards after going through all that work?

Any and all suggestions are welcome?

If you set pop-up reminders beyond 7 days before an event (done from the online Google Calendar), the phone calendar will crash when you attempt to view/edit that event from your phone.

This affects my HTC Hero and maybe other phones too.

The online Google Calendar has options for two types of reminders (email and pop-up). The pop-up is the one that syncs with the phone's calendar reminders. When setting an event reminder online, the options are: minutes, hours, days, weeks

You set the reminder to the actual # of minutes, hours, days, or weeks before the event.

The HTC Hero reminder options has preset numbers to choose from (below)

None
5 min
10 min
15 min
20 min
25 min
30 min
45 min
1 hr
2 hrs
3 hrs
12 hrs
24 hrs
2 days
1 week

1 week is the max. If you setup an event reminder from the Online Google Calendar with setting other than the presets on the phone (but less than 7 days), then the reminder setting will show up when you go to edit the reminder from your phone. However, if you set the pop-up reminder to anything above 7 days, then when you attempt to view/edit that event on the phone calendar, you get the message "...the process com.htc.calendar has stopped...". Again, the only way you can set a reminder to more than 7 days, is from the online Google Calendar. I’ve confirmed this multiple ways setting the pop-up reminder just beyond seven days.

This includes setting it to:
2 weeks
8 days
169 hours
10081 minutes

So the key is not so set reminders any longer than 7 days before the event. If you have reminders set reminders this way causing problems, correct the setting by editing from the online Google Calendar. Once synced to the phone, you should then be able to view/edit the event as normal.

Hope this helps someone.
Regards,
Paul
