For those of you having problems with your Incredible after 2.2

Don't know what to say. This is perhaps the best phone I've ever had and I am very hard on smartphones. I got the Seidio 3500mAh battery and I've had no problems, very few lockups, freezes or the occasional item that requires a reboot. Overall, 2.2 has been great.

Ever since the update.... whenever I go to text someone or view my email, it goes straight into landscape even though I am not holding my phone sideways. Its really getting annoying.

download a widget from the market so you can turn orientation on and off, meaning it wont auto switch to orientation anymore unless you turn that feature back on.

If you have S-OFF, simply restore a 2.1 nandroid back up, and flash the 1.x radio, and boom back to 2.1... but the OTA pop up is annoying and haven't done any research to make it stop, i know u could on Eris, but i heard it could be bad on Incredible, probably rumor.

Launcherpro & flash 10.1 are giving error message "not enough space to download" since 2.2
on incredible even though its showing plenty of free space. Other apps are downloading/updating fine. Can someone please help? I've cleared cashe,deleted several apps with no luck

The only problems I have had are not being able to play angry birds, system crash after reporting angry birds as defective, maybe one or two random reboots (before factory reset), and ringtones changing without me knowing (this could be because I replaced the SD card with a new one, which had no data on it).

I think you need to read some of the great reviews and findings that prove Wifi SAVES battery life as long as you turn the Wifi Sleep option to "Never". Before Froyo I ran on Wifi all day at work and home(only drive to/from was on 3G). I could get 1.5 days of life with normal use. When I did the exact same test on 3G I could only get about 16 hours.

I had several friends try the same test just to prove it wasn't a coincidence, Wifi is much better on battery when used properly. I thought like you until I read several posts on here and reviews by the top Android sites explaining how Wifi was best. You just don't want your phone searching for Wifi when it's not available.

It depends. If you are like me and have the phone to not sync anything, then wifi only when awake will be more battery efficient than to leave wifi connected constantly.

I'm experiencing:
1) the faster battery drain,
2) slower charge,
3) negate charge while in GPS,
4) MASSIVE amounts of lag (sporadic),
5) I've also noticed that I'm booting with far less available memory than I used to (according to ATK it was 2.1: about 180-200MB free; 2.2: about 110-140 free).
6) VZNav and AmazonMP3 are constantly opening themselves (and I don't wanna hear that they aren't slowing things down. I experience lag, they are open. I kill them, lag goes away.)

For the record, I went with the update.zip method

Long story short, I was under the impression Froyo was supposed to make my phone faster and more efficient. It's made it slower and less efficient. HTC/VZW's Froyo update sucks. I'm considering a hard/factory reset right now. After that, Rooting. (in case of warranty needs, can you unroot?)

Do you experience lag when you Aren't killing apps? I have none of those problems (ok, the crap charging while using Nav. But that was there in 2.1 as well.) Some of the lag (maybe most/all) could be because the apps are restarting themselves and using resources.

With everybody I've seen with the poor performance problems (myself included), a factory reset corrected the problem and now experience much improved performance vs. 2.1.

I think it's just software problems caused by the overlay install.

As far as you not wanting to hear about apps cached in memory. I can't help you. Your insistence that you know more about Android OS and it's memory management than the people who created it does not make it so.

Hello.... I have had the same problems since 2.2 got on my phone. I got that not enough space prompt as well, couldn't download anything everything just hung there including the downloading from the market, couldn't update friend stream very frustrating, phone slowed down all of that. I spend all weekend trying to figure out how to get rid of it with out doing an hard reset. I finally figured it out what was going on.... It has to do with the HTC E-Mail client. You have to delete as much e-mails and text messages you can. Then remove all of your e-mail address you are using then place them back on the phone. Worked like an charm.... My phone is Incredible again like when I had 2.1..... Hope this helps....

I insist nothing of the sort. I just don't believe that these are actually caching only. I'm going to start monitoring these things in OSMonitor and see if that's really the case, or if they (or something else) is running up the processor. I'm no stranger to HTC/VZW doing stupid stupid things to their phones, nor am I a stranger to IT work. SOMETHING is draining the battery faster and generating lag. I'm going to try (likely with minimal success before giving up and factory resetting) to get to the bottom of it. Wouldn't be the first bizarre bug I've tracked down on this thing....

I don't wanna start a flame war or ugly discussion here that'll get either of us moderated. I'm just not convinced that that you're entirely correct or that that I'm entirely wrong. Until that becomes the case, I may investigate it some. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. If I'm right, I'm right. Either way, the readers of this board come out ahead.

Edit: I do agree that the software overlay is likely causing issues. Upgrading OS's almost always causes issues, regardless of platform. We've gotten (in many cases) a relatively nasty one. I'm simply not convinced that VZNav and Amazon (VZNav especially) aren't making things worse.

Edit 2: Just poked around in Spare Parts and OSMonitor. I can't find any actual proof to back up my claims, and quite frankly, my Honors Thesis is significantly more important to work on. Meh.

I don't know about anyone else, but I updated to froyo with the zip file and did a factory reset. Before it would barely last 8hrs, with the 1300mah battery. Now it last 24hrs. plus. I used to worry about "killing" apps(ATK) now I don't even have ATK on my phone. I see apps are running all the time but froyo does a great job handling them. I can only imagine if Verizon didn't install all these "junk" apps. how well it would run.

Yeah, I've tried an OS upgrade install about three times in my life and that was enough for me. It's just not worth the hassle. Clean installs only for me now. Reinstalling your apps is MUCH less work than troubleshooting random performance problems, missing dependencies, etc.

Agreed on not starting anything stupid. Didn't mean to come off too brutish, it just gets tiresome fighting the same battles over and over again. Bust trust me, I run System Panel's monitor 24/7 and those apps have generated zero CPU activity.

In fact, I've found that after I finally stopped playing around and restarting my phone so much after the update got old, VZ Navigator actually has been pushed low enough in priority that it's not even getting loaded anymore. Amazon MP3 and Skype are still there (exactly 0 CPU time in about 250 hours though). I think the reason those might never go away is I think they might be launching as system services instead of apps. Still, shouldn't cause any usage on the system unless you actually use them.

interesting to note. I'll certainly try going without ATK for the first week or so after resetting and see what happens

I have an issue since 2.2 that I hope someone can help with. I was notified that updates were available for google maps and wikidroid. When it went to do the automatic updates, it has been stuck downloading for both for the past 2 days. If you press the downloading notification, it gives the option to cancel the download. When I press that it force closes the market and the download is still active. I have powered off the phone, pulled the battery, and even uninstalled the 2 apps and the downloading notice is still in the market app. I don't think that anything is really downloading because I haven't noticed any significant battery drain. Any ideas?

I have an insurance with Ensquared, they replaced my phone without so much of a fuss or hassle.
