Warranty Replacement for Droid 1---What did they tell you and what did they send you.

So here is an update. I received my "new" replacement phone today. First thing I noticed was that it had what looked like fine sand everywhere! But it did have all the original plastics. So I booted it and first thing I noticed, no sound! So I tried some other apps, Pandora, youtube and no sound! I called asurion and she ran me through troubleshooting and even called the phone and put it to speakerphone and she said that I was right (duh!) and said a new device would be sent. They offered me the ally, devour, or eris and I said, once again that they were not comparable models so she said "well the droid takes 2 weeks" to which I said was fine. I am really at my wits end!!

Wow, again I laugh at them.
Eris: way too many bugs and won't get 2.2 (Droid did and has way less bugs)
Devour: not even a droid. big and bricky for NOTHING. (Droid is slimer and doesn't have motocrap)
Ally: also not a droid. Lg fails at smartphones. (Droid was hit, ally wasn't)

Quick question for all those that are experienced with warranty replacement:

My headphone jack is going South, but my screen is also cracked. Would I qualify for warranty replacement? It's probably a long shot, but since it's still fully functional (I've been using it like this for months), I thought it might be worth a try instead of paying my ridiculous insurance deductible.

The phone was purchased at Best Buy

With the cracked screen, you are out of warranty.

ok, I have been trying to work this out. I can only get 5-8 hours a day on my third replacement. I have 2 batteries and they both last the same amount. I think this has to do with froyo. Verizon is getting me a fourth one this week. I always got a full day of battery before froyo

Can you get it without Froyo? I thought all the replacements were shipped with it already? Bummer, 5-8 hours is no good.

Well I might be on my second D2 (5th replacement in this whole mess) Starting a few days ago, this phone started going crazy. First the screen became unresponsive and would let me do anything, I couldn't text, I couldn't hit the home key, I couldn't even power the thing off. So I had to do a battery pull, left it out for about 30 seconds and popped it back in. Did the same thing within 2 mins. So I did a factory reset (such a PIA). Everything was great for about 5 hours and then it did it all again ending in another factory reset. Then yesterday I took my kids to Disneyland and none of my ringtones would work, all I got was this loud high pitched beep when the phone rang. When I went to music, it would say that the music file was not supported by the music player (I have been using these for over a week with no problems). Then I tried to open the camera to take a picture of my 5 year old and it kept saying, "oops, the camera could not open, please try again soon". Ugh!!!!! Turned it off for the rest of the day because I was peeved. Charged it last night and now this morning the camera and ringtones work just fine, wth? Soooo, I am going to call VZW this morning and see what they think.

3rd one came in this morning. It looked ok, until I slid open the keyboard. The awefulest grinding noise you ever heard. I tried opening and closing several times. It just got worse. Also noticed the keys were getting marks on them, so I figured the slider was dragging which is why it was making that noise. So back it goes.

Ok, so I got a call from customer care through asurion and explained my frustration so they gave me a choice of getting an incredible. I took it, only because I really dont get much use out of my keyboard on the droid anyways. Hopefully its good, cause if it isnt, I will send it back with no hesitation.

Good luck. I have always been curious about the incredible. That is what I originally wanted but they were back ordered when I got my Droid. Let us know how you like it. :)

Today, verizon offered me an eris. I told them they were crazy. Its downgrading. Then I told them I need to call corporate headquarters and they said go ahead. So I found a number and they are going to investigate the matter and get back to me by tomorrow. tick-tock-tick-tock...

Tick-tock is right....all of this is so frustrating. Good luck!!!

I will not stop until I am satisfied. I have way more time than they do. I still dont know what I should settle for tho. I keep hearing that the Droid1 cant handle Froyo. I need to research this some more.

I will say that my rooted D1 handles Froyo without issue, the caveats being that I have it overclocked to 1 GHz running a custom ROM, and my handset was purchased launch day and the hardware seems to be of excellent quality.

So I got my refurb yesterday...it is the most perfect one...only thing I hate is that I have purple LEDs now..the leds at the bottom on my other refurbs were white..and my screen was whiter too...but that I'm okay with that..everything else is good shape..but let's hope it stays like that

yea my soft keys are purple too. every one of them except the home key, which is dimmer than usual. but eh... who cares, it dont bother me. lovin my refurb.
