A lot of the times I can feel my EVO get real hot in my pocket, enough so I take it out because my thigh gets almost sweaty. My battery life also sucks big time. I'm wondering if these two issues are related. Does anyone else have a problem with their phone battery getting warm?

There are two things that could be causing this. One, something is running in tha background. I would get a system monitor app and see if anything is hogging. The other thing could be the battery shorting out, which is a serious issue as it could catch fire or explode. I would run a system monnitor today, and if you dont see anything, take it back tomorow.

this. if theres an app hogging your cpu when you dont know it just delete the app and be happy. also check your signal periodically to see if its that. if its not those two than take it back.

I had that problem with my Samsung Moment. I had two -- the first one would get to 43C when I did anything on it for more than a few minutes. The second one would pretty much stay that hot all the time. In comparison, my EVO runs much cooler -- the hottest it has been is 37C. If yours is that hot, something is wrong. Check the settings as people suggested and if it is not a bad app, take it back and exchange it.

Are you sure you are in an area of good solid service? The phone might be looking for service hence jumping from network to network running and draining the battery. Try turning roaming off and see what happens.

Bingo...that's how I used to be able to tell exactly when my HTC Mogul lost it's signal...it would get so hot, so fast burning the battery while the phone radio was scanning for a signal.

I went to Sprint last night and the girl unclicked the roaming option... mine is still hot. She also said I didn't need the app on there that kills the running apps so she removed it (before she told me she was doing it). The heat is really annoying... I do plan on taking it back up there tonight after work to see if there's something that can be done about it.

You don't even need an app to determine if there's a program that's running in the background causing the phone to constantly work.

When you notice this happening, this is how you check if there's something running constantly running in the background causing the battery to heat up:

MENU->SETTINGS->APPLICATIONS->RUNNING SERVICES

Look at all the programs that show up and there might be an app in there that is the cause of the problem due to it having to over use of the phone's processor.

It's just happy to see you.

But seriously, constant heat like that will soon give you a bad battery bulging at the cell, ripe for an explosive finish.

All jokes aside, that's what happened to my OEM Touch Pro battery, minus any ill after effects because I stopped using it, but it looks like it has a camel's hump now.

Can anyone suggest an app for me to download to monitor?
Watchdog is pretty good for me so far, but I haven't had it long. What I like about it is that is manages your resources, and isn't really a task killer, which Froyo minimized the need for. You can set it to make sure your phone doesn't start taking too many resources, I believe 80% is the default.
