Root Cyanogen Mod 6 (Froyo) Released!!

do i install the kingxklick kernal by update.zip?

No, just install zip from sd card in either ROM Manager or Clockwork Recovery

Hi folks,

I'm new to root as of last weekend and decided to give CM6 a shot as my first ROM. Today was the first day that I ran it all day and I have a couple questions/comments for the collective here.

1. My battery life stunk today. Basically, I ran the screen brightness on auto, and by 11:30 I noticed that my battery was below 50%. I checked to see what was using up my battery, and it said Display was at the top with something like 65%. I turned off auto brightness, but I think the damage was already done for today. Anyone else experience this?

2. Last night I was using ROM Manager and I tried downloading the Google Apps add-on that is posted under the CyanogenMod listing. It asked me if I wanted to do a backup and a cache cleanup. I decided to go ahead and do it. Once the install was done, I came up on a completely fresh Vanilla. I tried to do a restore from the backup I had made prior to installing the Google Apps, but it didn't work and ended up going to a blank Cyanogen. I had to redo the whole setup that I had already spent a solid hour doing in order to get my phone back up and running how I like it. Are people actually using the "Google Apps" stuff?

3. Is there any way to do a 1 click Titanium restore? I tried to do a batch processing, but it ended up giving me each of my apps, 1 by 1, and I had to either click install or cancel. Not sure that was the most time efficient way of going.

4. Ok, last point. I tried sending a couple emails from my newly CM6'd phone today, and the emails are still in my Inbox and they say "sending" in red. I don't think they ever went through. Any known issues with that?

OK, thanks to anyone who read this far. Any help is much appreciated.

Lev

1-Yes battery stinks bad with this ROM no matter what your backlight it set on but its totally worth it for this ROM imo.

2-There are 2 options when flashing in ROM manager one to backup and one to wipe cache and data (basically a factory reset). Sooooo it did what you told it to do ;) but why didnt your backup work. Does it yield an error?

3-Buy the donate version. Its totally worth it.

4-Yes that has happened to me. From home screen Menu/Settings/Applications/ManageApplications/All/Gmail and select "force stop" and "clear data" then reboot your device. They should send after that.

I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with ROM manager not successfully updating CM 6, when I download the latest update, I think its 6.0.2, I check backup current rom and wipe data, but when it reboots it still shows version 6.0.1 as the current rom in ROM manager.

I had the same problem. I had to clear my cache in ROM manager and re-download it. After that it worked fine. Hope this helps.

1. i've had very good battery life out of this. although, i am using a custom kernel
2. thats unfortunate. did you try booting right into recovery and restoring the backup manually? i think most people are using google apps (it has gmail.. the market.. all the google apps that aren't system related)

3. yes, you have to buy the full version.. its worth it.. i did the 1-by-1 clicking method and wanted to jump out my window so i just bought it.

4. try turning data on/off ? i occasionally get a problem where gmail will get/send messages.. but if i mark a message as read on my phone or delete it on my phone.. it won't push it to the server (even after a forced sync)[/QUOTE

Can you tell me what custom kernel you are running to improve battery life?

Thanks

you must have selected "wipe data and cache". You didn't want to do that. Google Apps is an add on, so you didn't need to. It basically wiped everything and left you with a stock CM6.

I don't know why your backup didn't work. That happened to me once though. I did a backup and it gave me fresh stock CM6. I was a little upset till I remembered CM6 re-downloads your apps for you then it wasn't AS big of a deal.

Over the long weekend I played around a bit with flashing ROMs for the first time. Of all the ones I've tried so far, the 6.0.2 version of this seems to be the best for me.
The first time I loaded it it was pretty much a disaster with a ton of force closes from the mail app and from google framework and random other things here and there. I did a bit of reading and narrowed my problems down to restoring my apps and data with Titanium backup. The last time I flashed it I restored my stuff with MyBackupPro and that made a huge improvement. Only fc I get now is from the mail app at startup, and I know now that this can be fixed by deleting it through root explorer. I use gmail so this is not a big deal to me.

As a noob though I still have a few questions.
I'm using this ROM on the stock 2.1 radio (Settings > about phone > baseband ver. 1.00.03.04.06) Is this dangerous in any way? I see a lot of people say they're running updated radios with this ROM buy haven't seen anyone state that you need to? If I went back to stock ROM, turned S-off, and updated the radio before re-flashing this, are there any other benifits besides being able to use the video camera, possibly changing my reception, and more reliable gps?

One thing that is killing me about this ROM is the fact that I no longer have copy & paste, in the browser or anywhere else. Is there a way to it back?

In the gallery, is there a way to only display images from the SD card? I like keeping my picture folders organized and with all the photos from the internal storage now being displayed it's makes things kind of messy.

Is there any way to view your awake time now? It's no longer in settings > about phone

Cut and paste most definetly work in the current build. You should run a radio update to one of the 2.x versions, this fixes most of the camera/gps issues. Other than that I haven't noticed any changes.

I figured it out since that post. I'm actually onto Ruby 1.1.1 now and liking it better. It's more stable on my phone.
Upgraded to one of the 2.x radios too for video and gps.
I still wish the copy and paste was the same as it is on Sense. Hopefully devs will figure that one out.

Hey guys; this may be a stupid question, but here we go anyways.

Been running FrankenROM with a Kings Kernal for a while now and felt like switching things up. Tried installing CM6 last night and once I got the ROM loaded I attempted to set up my accounts. The only account it would let me create was an Exchange account. I saw there is a Google package you can install too; which I'm guessing answers my question of why I couldn't get my account on the phone. Problem was I had class and didn't have a chance to play around more.

Do I need to just install the Google Apps package as well to get that working? Or, did I botch something in the install?

First time I flashed CM6 I did this as well , You need to install the google apps package and you'll be all set

Well...played with CM6 for a week and decided to switch, but I wanted to leave some thoughts for the Dev's.

- I think this is a great ROM; please don't take my short use of it as knocking the work done or saying there is a problem, because there isn't. For me it came down to the UI and I just prefer a Sense based UI to Vanilla.

- I noticed two bugs; one was a force close on e-mail (always twice) whenever I booted the phone. Oly time I would ever see it. The other was I could not get into the Sound settings in the menu. Whenever I tried, I would get a force close.

Again, I think this is a fabulous ROM. I'm glad I got the chance to play around with it for a little bit. Battery life seemed on par with the HTC 2.2 ROM and ran quite stabily.

Interesting. Which build were you running? I'm running the 10-3 nightly and I haven't seen either of these problems.

This rom just keeps getting better and better but if you love Sense this isn't the one you want.

PS. Does anyone know what it would take to enable the video-out driver?

I'll have to go back and check.

Agreed that its a fantastic ROM and I hope my post didn't come across as bashing it in any way.
