What in the WORLD?!?

Be patient, you'll find others I'm sure, I for one have not experienced any issue sms... maybe be more specific with a description, what is slow? The app load? Typing? Message transmission? Interval from sending (by others to you) till you receive it? Detail what you experience or problem is...

:)

From when I hit send to it actually sending takes forever. It does the Please Wait spin screen and when it comes back it still takes another 2 secs to send the message. Deleting threads takes forever too.

do you have a lot of threads? Are they large?
If so, consider finding a SMS archiving app. I use SMSBackup (free), it forwards my SMS to Gmail, tags it with "SMS", marks it as read, and archives it automatically. I delete threads every couple days. Seems the more threads you have, and the longer they are, the more likely they are to bog down the phone.

What is like this out of the box or did it happen when you started loading apps? Have you considered backing everything up and performing a "Factory data reset" loacted un Settings>Security?

Oh, and my stock sms work just fine.

By backing everything up, does that include apps I've downloaded?

Also, I do have a very large thread and I think others are right, it bogs it down like no other. One thread I have is 4000+ but when I try to delete it, the phone gets hung up (no pun intended).

install "sms quick delete". while in the app, select a thread, so u can see individual messages. press "select all" and then "delete". it will take a LONG time to delete them and will lag the phone until it is completely cleared. the app will continue to delete msgs in the background only when the phone is awake. you can see the progress in the stock messages app; the msg count will continue to diminish. do NOT allow your threads to exceed 500 messages or your phone will start to lag when sending messages within that thread. for some reason, android was coded to load ALL your messages within the thread thus making your phone lag.

Why they hell is my stock sms so slooooww? It like freezes the phone up. Is no one else experiencing this? I want to use it but it's ********.
maybe if you change the thread title to "Stock sms is slow and freezes my phone" you would get a response from someone. I just poked my head into this thread cause im home having a beer with nothing to do.

Try clearing your CACHE first from the SMS app... then delete the threads.
Also, you might try clearing all the CACHE's, but be careful, it has been mentioned that some of them will ahve an adverse or unintended effect.
Outside of that and besides asking here, have you contacted Sprint or HTC? I dont have this problem but if I did I would certainly contact them as well to see if they have a solution. Give it a whirl, what have yo ugot to lose?

Hope it gets working for ya'...

Regards!

I for one have never used the stock message app. It's plain and boring, but I assume i would experience the same problems.

I have lag with Handecent, even scrolling through the batch list is jittery.

Too bad theres not an app that automatically clears app caches on a pre-determined basis, like every other day for apps "A" "B" and "C" and once per week for app "D".

I'd recommend not using the stock SMS app if you need to keep long conversation threads.

I use chompSMS myself. It does not load the complete thread every time you open a conversation. If you scroll back to a certain point, you have to tell it to "show earlier messages". I've let some of my threads go on for hundreds of messages and the performance never changes.
