I know that this is all based on peoples opinions but i just rooted my phone yesterday and would like to load a custom rom on it. I have seen a few different ones and would like to know what you guys think is the best (stable) one out there right now.

I have a kernel (cant remember which one) that allows me to overclock my phone to 1.1 ghz. So I guess the new rom would have to be compatible to run with that? idk lol

Ok so please let me know which ones you guys like! Thanks

I agree w/ the Chief. Ultimate Droid is a great rom w/ a really cool looking live wallpaper lol. But w/ chevy #1's 1.2 ghz kernel that rom is just amazing. Like chief said, the features are lengthy even though i can't access all of them but that's just something wrong w/ my phone. But to the point, Ultimate Droid is a great rom and BB 0.5 is also a rom to look forward to.

you could try the new one thats out called Project Elite. from what ive experienced with it so far its very quick. heres a link to the thread for a download if you want to try it: [ROM RELEASE] Project Elite - Android Forums

i had tried UD8 on my phone but it lagged really bad and that was with the stock kernel and chevys lv1100 kernel.

That could happen for you but UD is an awesome rom for most. I have tested Project Elite and all it really is is a stripped rom with no extra features. Just a rom for performance and stability. Not really good for a person like me who likes customizing a LOT. Not trying to degrade the rom because it still is a good rom.

Ok I have alot to try. The ultimate droid one how much customization can you do? I noticed you said the project elite is bare and simple I prob wouldnt customize alot unless it has really cool features. What are some of them? I am new to this I use to have an eris and as far as I know there was no customizing to much with those roms lol

Project Elite pretty much offers no features but if you head over to the Ultimate Droid rom thread over in the roms forum thingy then you could see that extensive list of things to do. A lot of fun things to mess around w/ imo.

UD8 didn't work well for me. I would recommend liq froyo 1.6 or the one i am currently using, shadow. Shadow is fast ( i use a slayher kernel overclocked to 1000) and it is fast, reliable and somewhat customizable.
Liqfroyo is barebones, but performs well.
if i had to pick one i would say try Shadow.

Are there any ROMS that are not overclocked? In my experience a well built ROM will function almost as well factory clocked vs overclocked.

You can take any rom that comes with an 800 kernel and clock it down to 600 with setcpu. The bonus is that you can set your profiles so that it is not always runnning at 600. I agree somewhat with the overclocking. 600 is good enough for most stuff but I find web pages load quicker at 800. Above 800 the differences I see are pretty insignificant to me. I run a 1000 kernel but clock it down to 800/250 on interactive. But this may change as I tend to swap these out every day or two for the fun of it:D

Ok it seems to be that a lot of people are mentioning UD8. I will have to try this one forsure. I asked a friend earlier and he told me that cm6 was the best? No one in here as mentioned that at all lol. What is cm6?

Also where do I get chevys low V1.0 kernel? and is it atleast 1ghz? because the kernel I have now is 1.1ghz.

CM6 has maybe the best set features for any rom out (only rivaled by UD8 IMO). But after running it for a week or two, it can slow down. Even before the slow down, it is not as fast as the other roms mentioned here. I moved from that to Sapphire 1.1 to Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.6 and couldn't be happier with LFY! I definitely recommend trying this bad boy out. I've heard A LOT of good things about UD8 but have not tried it myself.

There is a Rom Rating System you can check out here. And each rom thread should have some reviews in it for a more detailed explanation of what to expect from each rom. (had to plug it :D)

You can't really go wrong with any of the options folks have already mentioned in this thread. Good luck!
