Post Here if You Have Received The Update

Here is my update experience;
Unlocked, Unrooted, no other updates, fixes...

I tried many of the GPS fixes from XDA to little help, GPS would take several minutes to lock, then lose then lock again, i have seen many posts about that.
I restored my GPS settings to default before downloading the update. The update went well with no issues, recieved the congrats message in about 10 mins (with edge...).
I Tried the GPS and it wouldnt lock for many minutes, i was not happy! So i figured i had nothing to lose and played with the GPS settings again finding that nothing helped. I was beginning to give up, so i set my GPS settings back to default, and this time noticed the Delete GPS Data button in the LbsTestMode and clicked it, rebooted and now, at least for today, i get 7 or more sat locks within 20 seconds from a bootup, and less than 10 seconds with the phone running, (toggling on and off the GPS), consistently.
I dont know it this will be permanent, but for now its better. maybe deleting GPS data helps? I will update my status later.

Thanks to all posting on these forums, i have been lurking for days and have gotten excellent information!

How long did you wait for a lock. After this update, the GPS will do a "cold start" and could take up to 5 minuts or so for the initial lock.

3g strength should'nt affect your GPS really. If you have "use wireless networks" turned on, it will attempt to use your 3g and wifi signals to help triangulate your initial possition while the sats are locking in. This, I belive, is how "assisted GPS" (or aGPS) works.

tried again last night with no lock what so ever. waited 5 mins. i opened navigator and is was stuck on ...searching GPS signal. Not sure if its the navigator sofware or what. Is there another check i could run to see if it would lock?

Got the update, have not tested GPS yet, but something new... Youtube widget now says: "Connection problem. Touch to try again." No luck getting that resolved yet.

Yup same here. I just placed the app it self on th screen. When I open it Im connected so not sure what the issue is.
So anyone else having the "No Firmware" issue? I tried to update twice and it failed both times ( first time the update goes to 100%, yet it says it failed. second time it stays at 0%, then phone rebooted and said the update failed ), and now I can't even get into the "Software Update" option. And now whenever i restart the phone it always says "Did not update".

I think my phone is kinda screwed up. It says "JH7" in the "About Phone" part but it seems incomplete... no quickoffice.

Whoa that sucks. Did you try calling AT&T? If this continues get a new replacement.
Anything that changes core parts of the system that aren't expected to ever change can result in an update not applying. The install process will make assumptions and if they turn out to not be the case, the update can either refuse to install (if you're lucky) or install anyway and break things (if you're unlucky). Many hacks, including lag fixes, don't actually uninstall cleanly even if they advertise an uninstall method. The Voodoo lagfix is a great example, as the "uninstall" still leaves behind the massive customized nonstandard kernel, and does not return you to the stock kernel you had before.

You're an awesome ocean of knowledge. Glad you're on the site.:)

Updated here at work. Update seemed to go fine. Every time I reboot the phone I get a message saying software updated successfully. It tries to connect to the DM server everytime and fails.

When I go to Settings->Software Update I get a "No Firmware" message.

GPS doesn't seem any better.

WTF?!?! Anyone else experiencing any of these issues????? Helppppp :-((((

If you're not happy I encourage you to go to the store and do what it takes to get your satisfaction.
That said, my understanding of how GPS works is it needs to have an idea of where you are so it can get a list of satellites to look for. If it doesn't have that list, the initial lock will take a very long time.
Perhaps try a lock with aGPS then switch it off and see what your results are?
I don't know if this hardware is even supposed to be capable of GPS but I can tell you my iPhone 3GS could never pinpoint my location closer than 1000m or so if it didn't have a wireless signal so I'm not sure what we're supposed to expect with this phone but it's already been better than my old phone.

It is a damn shame that this phone technology absolutely sux with regards to the GPS situation. Mine worked better before update, which was crappy then, but now it sees a few sats after about 5 mins and never locks...gave it 20mins plus. My darn 2.5 year old HTC TYTNII locked on exactly to where I was in Google Maps. I'm bringing this thing back.

In my opinion if you went down the hack n' slash route you've already made your choice; opting to install your own updates (or other peoples) instead. I made my choice in the very beginning to not install any hacks or even root until 2.2 came out because I believe that will be our last update. I am naive when it comes to messing with internal software/kernel/firmware/what-have-you, so I decided not to even mess with it until I either knew more or updates stopped coming. Seeing how the hacks have messed up a simple 12meg update that almost does nothing I am glad I made the choice I did. If I DID install hacks I wouldn't even try to install this update. I'd wait for XDA or whoever/whatever to come out with the next thing. Even if this was or is the GPS fix I still would have waited for XDA to dissect it and offer the hacker solution. In my opinion we've all chosen our camps and once you defect, so to speak, it's not so easy to return (apparently so anyway). Remember I am not like sremick, I am not knowledgeable about such things, but that's my 2 cents, coming from an average Joe.

I'd try this update if 3G wasn't down in my area-- stuck with Edge for the moment. Also, I'm uncomfortable with all the varying results posted here-- my GPS behavior is sporadic, but I can usually get a lock-- sometimes indoors.. I'd hate for it to get worse.

Can't you download it using WiFi?

Updated last night with a brand new captivate I exchanged my last one for due to some browser problems so the phone was completely stock in every way... Update DID NOT fix the gps issue whatsoever.

At first it seemed to have worked when I was outside in the city it locked on to me within 5 meters then once I got back home had me blocks away from where I was just like my last one without the update regardless if tried it in my sun room or stood in the middle of the street.

Disappointed with samsung and att's lack of support and the lies they're telling their loyal customers who have been waiting months for this fix. I'm two weeks from breaking and getting an iphone if they don't address the issue... AGAIN.

My phone bricked yesterday on the update. Since last night, I'm going to go get my third phone now. Each one is worse than the last sadly (what makes it worse is my first Captivate that bricked was awesome - no issues at all)... On my current phone, forget about locking on to satellites, it can't even locate one in the middle of a park. I can't even connect to Android Market - forget the AT&T servers...

Hi everybody. I'm just reporting in with my phone.

I got mine nearly a month ago. GPS worked great then. Google maps worked, Navigator was able to direct me to a few places. I was tracking my runs/bike rides with it. It could tell me my location regardless of whether I was indoors or out. Then over a weekend, it all stopped working. All of a sudden, it couldn't find satellites.

I got the update yesterday. No text notification. I did a manual update. GPS has not gotten any better. Since I purchased my phone through Amazon, I talked to them today and they're sending me a replacement phone. I'm not holding my breath.

The part that I really don't understand is why GPS would all of a sudden stop working. It worked one day and then it didn't.

post update, typing the *#*#1472365#*# then * causes the number to disappear. Send brings up the call log.

ANY CUT wasn't found in the marketplace. So now what?

I couldn't find it either, but I did find the paid version for it which is BetterCut... I wonder why there is no free version available anymore?

EDIT: Apparently you can also do it with LauncherPro. I found the following on the XDA forums which linked back to AndroidForums haha:

"Download LauncherPro, you can uninstall it as soon as you are done testing (I do). Then when you hit the home key, choose launcher pro. When you see the new home screen, long press anywhere on a empty spot on the screen. When the menu comes up, choose shortcuts, then activities, then scroll through the list till you get to LbsTestMode. Click the arrow, then select the first entry. It should read, com.sec.android.app.lbstestmode.LbsTestMode

Label it whatever you like, I'm lazy and just keep the default. Now you have a shortcut on the screen to LbsTestMode. Fast and convienent. When you are done simply uninstall Launcher Pro and that's it."

I've been being good and limiting myself to one ping of the server each evening to try and get my update, but gave in this morning and tried as soon I got up. Same thing as before, just a never ending "communication in progress" screen.

On my way into work, I noticed that my clock widget hadn't updated when I reset the time back to auto update, so I turned my 3G on (I normally leave it off all of the time and stay on wireless) and boom - the phone immediately began downloading the update. I find it interesting that even when I enabled 3G while on wireless, the update still wouldn't download for me. Something to try if you're having issues getting it to connect.

Overall, the process was smooth. I was dealing with traffic so I couldn't obsess over every bleep and stutter, but the phone managed without me interveaning. I retained root and my lag fix, plus got QuickOffice installed automatically (no previous installation). I'm still stock otherwise (although the bloatware's days are numbered - just haven't had time to delete it).
